Yep, that's what owning an iPhone feels like.
That's pretty much it though. I have my 3GS for only a month and a half now and I can't even count the times it saved the day, coming out of nowhere.

I got one as a gift a bit ago and used it at a baseball game this past weekend, and it was really nice to have on hand. I ran my iPhone down to about 33%, and then turned the Mophie on, and it charged it up to 90% while I was using it, so pretty nice IMO. I haven't tried turning it on with the iPhone at 100% to see how long it lasts, but I think the extra hours stated on the box are pretty accurate.
It'll be a godsend at PAX East in March, I'm sure!

Then I tried charging my phone. Now, I know the Mophie Juice Air is rated the lowest capacity out of all the battery cases but I didn't realise how far behind it was. Maybe the makers assume you'll be idling around while the Air gives you the claimed 80% recharge before using the phone again. Sure, the Air is better than nothing but it doesn't feel that much better.
Finally, and I didn't expect this to be much of an annoyance before I bought the case, it just didn't feel right in my hands. It's very bottom-heavy (understandably sosoe) and results in a much different experience to holding and using the iPhone than I was used. It'd have been much better if the bulk was replicated for the removable top half as well, to give a sense of symmetry and maybe add more protection. The main reason I pllopped for the Air was it was described as the thinnest and I imagined it would feel, at most, like a regular case. On second thought, one of those brick shaped battery cases would probably have been better.
At the end of the day I felt I was paying a premium for just one debatable feature, "thinness", while in all other areas the
If you're looking for a powerful external battery, I recommend the FastMac IV. I charged a 3GS phone from 20% -> 100% with 1 hour of phone use and lots of Internet surfing while it was charging. The next day I charged my phone from 16% -> 92% without heavy usage. That's nearly two full charges of the phone on one charge of the external battery.
Only drawbacks are the bulky size of the battery, price, and it's not a real good case because the top half is uncovered. If you're just looking for juice though, it's one hell of a battery. It's ideal for conventions like PAX or a vacation where you want to take pictures or video for an extended period of time without access to a phone charge.

Ok, my brother got himself an iPhone after saving up for it + a few months of service. 2 days after getting it, some asshole tried to steal it while he was checking what time the bus was coming. It flew out of his hand and hit the ground, glass is smashed. Apple wants $256 to repair it. Is there another option? Anyone on Rogers have experience with this situation?

Podcasts still get screwed up when you plug into another pc to charge up, unfortunately. When I'm at work and want to use the PC's usb ports to charge my phone, I lose their place most times. I plugged in to my co-worker's pc (which also has iTunes) it marked podcasts as new also.
Finally, the new firmware partially borked compatibility with my car receiver, which now doesn't always recognize the iphone and when it does, it's bound to do that bug where the podcasts lose their place and are marked as new. smh, the ONLY reason I even bought that receiver was for iPhone compatibility. Good work Apple!

Google says on http://www.google.com/mobile/products/talk.html#p=default that I
can access to Gtalk from the iPhone by going to http://m.google.com/talk
But if I go there, which I just did, it says that Gtalk isn't supported for
this device.
edit: nevermind, just had to change the language to US English to make it work. damn, get your shit straight, google.

I've seen people mentioning that issue on quite a few message boards and blogs. I haven't encountered it though...but it's definitely happening to a lot of people.

Although the shutdown bug hasn't happened to me again I'm seeing a new issue today with 3.1 where it's unresponsive - hitting the sleep/wake button takes like 4 seconds to turn the screen on most of the time.

That's how syncing works. It's generally one way to the device unless you've purchased the items on the device itself.Xamdou said:

Yeah, the things that I've done with this phone are amazing. There were only a few times where I went "I wonder if my phone can do this....." and the answer was no. From hiking with the gps to setting up inboxes on my coworker's doors using the level app, it's crazy what this device is capable of. That cartoon isn't way off, since my wife has a first aid app that would come in extremely handy for that scenario.
About the shutdown bug, my wife's 3gs was struck, but my 3g has been fine. I didn't think much of it when my wife asked me to reset her phone until I started reading these posts on gaf showing it was an actual issue and not a one time freak occurrence for her.

I am thinking about getting myself a GPS for my iPhone 3G
I can see that there are 2 different GPS available on app store, one from TomTom and one from Navigon.
anyone here got experience on these 2 GPS programs?
wich one is best?
can I just download a map for any country?
I would love to be able to get a map over New zealand now that I am about to travel there.

Try copilot live. It comes out top in a lot of reviews, especially the European version. Its also a lot cheaper than TomTom and Navigon. I just bought it and it works really well. Check to see if they have the maps that you need.

GPS should be self contained - it receives signals from triangulated satellites to determine positional coordinates. Completely separate from data. Any decent GPS map should be included within the app, so will not require network. That said, I assume flightmode shuts down all radio signals, transmitting and receiving, so I assume this includes GPS.
Aswell as co pilot, there is also Sygic, which includes maps for NZ and Australia. Do a good review on all possibilities before buying, as some of them have features others don't - for example, I heard the TOmTOm app does not read street names. I'd probably prefer a smaller company, provided they have the features, as it feels they will less likely nickel and dime you with future updates. Maybe. I dunno.
