Yep, that's what owning an iPhone feels like.![]()

If I ever ran into problems, I was going to pick one up. Why'd you return it?

Firestorm said:Ok, my brother got himself an iPhone after saving up for it + a few months of service. 2 days after getting it, some asshole tried to steal it while he was checking what time the bus was coming. It flew out of his hand and hit the ground, glass is smashed. Apple wants $256 to repair it. Is there another option? Anyone on Rogers have experience with this situation?
He bought such an expensive phone without a phone insurance? You can get a phone insurance on every phone.eXxy said:You can get iPhone insurance?
AT&T doesn't offer insurance for the iPhone unlike their other phonesMr. Durden said:You can get a phone insurance on every phone.

Must be different in the states, didn't know.SnakeXs said:Through whom?
You can get insurance, it's just the iPhone is a 'special' device.Mr. Durden said:Must be different in the states, didn't know.

Two incredibly annoying bugs were finally fixed with the 3.1 OS:
-Podcasts losing their place after a sync
-E-mail reading location gets screwed up after receiving new mail
VanMardigan said:Podcasts still get screwed up when you plug into another pc to charge up, unfortunately. When I'm at work and want to use the PC's usb ports to charge my phone, I lose their place most times. I plugged in to my co-worker's pc (which also has iTunes) it marked podcasts as new also.
Finally, the new firmware partially borked compatibility with my car receiver, which now doesn't always recognize the iphone and when it does, it's bound to do that bug where the podcasts lose their place and are marked as new. smh, the ONLY reason I even bought that receiver was for iPhone compatibility. Good work Apple!
Sean said:I've had this issue today too, it really freaked me out. I kept trying to power it on and it wasn't working, I thought it died, then I tried the hard reset (home + sleep/wake button) and that did the trick.
I'm glad it wasn't just me. I would assume this is a bug in OS 3.1 update and not something hardware related with our iPhones.
Hellsing321 said:Are backups taking a long ass time for anyone else on 3.1? Mines been backing up for like 15 mins now.
Mar_ said:Oh thank fuck other people are having this issue. It's happened to me twice in three days. Freaked me the fuck out.
Jesus, what a nightmare for Apple if this is widespread.

cynlix said:I recently switched computers, and I know I'm going to need to sync my iphone to the new one. I'm currently on 3.0 right now. Does anyone know if I re-sync my iphone if it'll give me 3.1 instead of 3.0? Thanks...
That's how syncing works. It's generally one way to the device unless you've purchased the items on the device itself.Xamdou said:I just bought a new HP laptop and tried to sync/backup w/ my Iphone 3GS but it said If I sync music/videos or any other media it would practically delete everything in my 3gs wtf?

jts said:Yep, I also had a few screw ups on 3.1. A couple of freezes and reboots as well as a minor SMS glitch (got 2 SMS's hours after they were sent, only when I sent an SMS to that contact).
robertsan21 said:Hi guys
I am thinking about getting myself a GPS for my iPhone 3G
I can see that there are 2 different GPS available on app store, one from TomTom and one from Navigon.
anyone here got experience on these 2 GPS programs?
wich one is best?
can I just download a map for any country?
I would love to be able to get a map over New zealand now that I am about to travel there.
liquid_gears said:Try copilot live. It comes out top in a lot of reviews, especially the European version. Its also a lot cheaper than TomTom and Navigon. I just bought it and it works really well. Check to see if they have the maps that you need.

does the GPS work even if I decide to switch the phone to flightmode?
or is the GPS using my phone network, I will be going to very remote places so I am sure I wont have any network, so I cant call or send sms, will that effect the GPS?
With such an expensive phone it's always worth it to take an insurance, you never know what happens.Gunstar said:Buying phone insurance doesn't make a lot of sense if you take care of your stuff. You'll just be paying to cover assholes who drop their phone in the French sea for example.
If you have a hardware failure, warrantee will cover that just fine.

mrkgoo said:GPS should be self contained - it receives signals from triangulated satellites to determine positional coordinates. Completely separate from data. Any decent GPS map should be included within the app, so will not require network. That said, I assume flightmode shuts down all radio signals, transmitting and receiving, so I assume this includes GPS.
