So has anyone tried out the augmented reality apps from acrossair? I've download the nearest tube station app and although it's quite sensitive, it's pretty cool to get a first look at where this tech is going.

It'll be a lot cooler when it can decipher what is actually on your screen and overlay precise directions.

These all require the compass in the 3GS, correct? I read about the one hidden inside of Yelp! or whatever that app is called, and was bummed by my inability to try it being a lowly 3G owner.

Precautionary Question. Have there been any reports of AT&T potentially charging
for tethering since the 3.1 update outlawed it? Been using it sparingly the past couple days, but it's great.

You guys still using it?

There's little way they can tell unless you completely abuse it.

TomTom clears up iPhone car kit slip: £99.99 [~$160] for the hardware alone, app sold separately

Are you sure? I'd assume that Apple put a flag in there. I've only heard of someone in Germany being billed though...

WTF? :lol

That car mount kit should've been like $60-70 bucks tops. Might as well get a dedicated GPS unit for that price ($160 for the mount + $99 for the app).

Wow, seriously. That's some terrible pricing right there. Sadly they'll still probably sell a shitload of them.

I used it somewhat frequently on a recent trip to Chicago and didn't incur any charges, but you could be right.

Hey Canadians, buying an iPhone 3G online, 2 questions:

1) Even if I'm using Rogers and they are an official carrier, will I still be required to jailbreak/unlock it for it to work, or can I call Rogers and have them recognize I'm using an iPhone?

2) If I call Rogers, will they give me the $20 iPhone Visual Voicemail value pack, or do they only offer that to customers who buy the phone from them directly?

You're still on 3.0?

oh, fyi. if you used the tethering config before you updated to 3.1 you'll still have tethering access when you finally do. well, at least on my phone it works.

Question about AT&T upgrade. I was planning on joining AT&T in early December and figured I'd go ahead and wait till this coming June for the next iPhone. I was going to use my room mates phone until then. So if I went in with his basic old phone, could I still use my upgrade in June or is it only when you sign up at that moment?

What does Apple mean by you can send "locations from Maps" with the MMS? GPS coordinates or a link that opens up in the Maps app? Can you send directions?

i've used it heavily recently (2GB+ i think) and haven't been billed yet. *fingers crossed*

Are you going to install the AT&T's MMS update that should be released today?

AirBrian said:
MMS is almost here. What are we going to complain about after today
Clunky notification system? Running third party apps in the background? Flash plugin for the browser? Flash for the camera?

My only complaints after having this thing for so long is why I still have to buy any other device to do anything on the go.

The fact that you can go to the airport RIGHT NOW and hold up your phone to act as your boarding pass gets me tight in the pants that society is going to get awesome in my lifetime.

Not a chance. The only person I know who uses MMS is my sister, and I have enough pictures of my nephew. :D

1.Don't care, it works fine for me as is.

2.Don't need, I like battery life.

3.Don't want, I prefer better browser performance.

4.iPhone 4G! Summer 2010. :lol

I said this when the pricing was announced the first time. So many reasons to get a dedicated GPS for less money.

2. agreed.

3. agreed. fuck flash on webpages.

4. meh. the way most people use flashes to take pics in low light environments, pictures look blown out and crappy.

So because you're on 3.1 you can't install the hacked carrier settings to add MMS and you can't install the official update without losing tethering? It's not just pics you can send though, there's voice memos and... yeah nothing much. If you could send directions from Maps (that a regular phone could see) that'd be awesome. A friend called me up last week from asking for directions to where she was going. She wasn't even in my state at the time :lol

Just in time to rain on my parade :)
Re: flash on iPhone, I actually mean flash+flashblock or clicktoflash. I only need flash for the live video streaming as no other plug ins seem to have made inroads in that area. Don't care much for flash besides that.

HEY GAF... Anyone know how to cancel dataplan with ATT Iphone 3G?... I want to save some money... FFFF the online app's I never use em. My phone is jail broken.. what I gotta do? :lol

These things are acceptable for you and the general masses but what about us power users? And I also never understood the battery life argument. Just give us the option, Apple.

Most of my friends have either iphones or G1s, so we send pictures/locations through gmail. At worse I'll wait for the hacking gurus to figure out a way to push a new carrier setting to an unlocked phone. Otherwise I don't miss MMS.

If you have a contract with ATT, then you can't cancel the data plan, they have automatic sweeps that put it right back on even if you were able to talk a rep into doing it. The only real way to get it from being put back on is to lie to the rep and say you have a new phone, then give them an IMEI number from a non-iphone to change it to. That'll negate the sweep.

Awesome Note (+Todo) - $3.99 - Click to Visit iTunes Page

Since I went to the farm for a month I haven't been able to whore out Awesome Note. It's $3.99 and now has To-Do support, so fuck the other Apps. This is Awesome note-taking and Awesome To-Do making! Boo-yah!

Peep it with your peepers:

btw, am I the only one who finds awesome note to be a fucking UI disaster? it's trying to do too many things and there's a mess of bottom bar buttons and icons and places to store shit and it's way more confusing than any note app should be.

i think their failing was trying to add tasks to the UI.

plus some of the hideous skins going on.

So, buy a cheap phone, give them the number on that phone. Then Swap the simcard out?

Also turn off 3G on my Iphone right?

I want to do this cause I got an awesome Referb Jail Broken I phone. I do not use data constantly, Anyone who is sitting around looking at their phone that much has got to be a busy person or, busy waisting time. I found my self texting messaging etccc to much.........

But I love the phones design and other things.... Plus all my music.

Don't even have to swap the SIM card out. Just need an IMEI from anyone else's phone, it's just for record-keeping purposes at ATT, nothing else. Once that's updated, it won't show up as an iphone in their systems anymore so you'll be able to easily remove the data package.

The return to GPS that actually works? Apple's stupid policy for blocking apps that people want? (I don't give a shit if it "duplicates built-in functions" - give me the full Google Voice app.) Still not giving us the ability to have custom backgrounds for our home pages?

AirBrian said:

Shitty notifications is my big complaint - they need to copy WebOS/Android in that area.

I'd like to see a better way of organizing Apps on the iPhone too. And a quick battery toggle thing (swiping the status bar up top will open an overlay screen that you can quickly disable some power-hungry things like 3G, Bluetooth, WiFi, etc to save battery without having to navigate around Preferences).

I think it's pretty neat looking personally. But nothing beats the simplicity of the default note app - I just load it up, type, close. I'm not sure I need anything else, really.

To do apps are good in theory, but I'm not in the habit of checking my device frequently enough to make it worthwhile.

I don't have a problem with background processing being enabled as an option, as long as it's an option I can turn off. And I would prefer it to be turned off by default, so I don't have to listen to people at work bitching about how the battery life on their iPhone is suddenly so much worse.

Wait, everywhere else I read was that tethering was disabled once you upgraded to 3.1.

Just you and the other guy.
The skins for the notes aren't the best. Will agree there.

you have to admit that the location of the tiny "done" and "cancel" buttons when using the quick add interface are horribly, horribly positioned.
