i work in a phone shop and i tell you now these things will go like shit off a shovel when they're launched in the uk. i'm willing to put good money on the fact we get tons back with faults though. it will be interesting to see how apple deal with the repairs aspect, i wonder if they'll accredit our engineers for in house jobs.

That keyboard video is pretty impressive. Towards the end, the dude totally botches the word "reservations" and the phone figures out what he meant. That's pretty damn smart.
As I've said before, if I get an iPhone (which I am seriously considering), I will be waiting at least a month to see if any fatal flaws pop up. This is Apple after all. Super-scratch Nanos, overheating macbook pros, discoloration on macbooks, etc. I refuse to trust the first batch off the line. I'm really sold on the device.

I am 75% sure I'm getting one but not this Friday. I'm going camping the whole weekend so I won't be able to even read or think anything iPhone until I get back.

The iPhone is not subsidized like other handsets sold by AT&T. Anyone who thinks they'll be able to get a corporate discount on the iPhone like they have on past phones needs to realize this fundamental difference. I believe the price of the iPhone is fixed in stone and completely out of AT&T's hands.

All this hype and all these videos and (mostly) glowing reviews make me want to line up Friday, but I know better. I'm going to hold out a month to avoid early production bugs and to hear more from people who actually own them, then I might jump in. It will take me emptying my savings account but hey, I started that thing because one day in the far off future I will need to buy a wedding ring. It can take the hit. Right now, iPhone > non-existant future wife.

I have a big chunk of money and looking to invest it. I was really thinking of using Etrade and just buying some Apple stock with iphone and ipod and holidays coming up. Been watching some business news channels and have started to think maybe of going with ATandT stock instead. Not only do they have the exclusive deal with iPhone so as that does good so do they but on top of that they are starting to roll out IPTV around and are offering alot of package deals so i'm thinking that may be the way to go. Its went up a bit over the last few days with a small dip today but I want to do this before Friday. Didn't want to start a new thread just wondering if anyone else has done this, thought of it or has thoughts on it.

I hope they can add voice dialing with a software update. not having that is a serious turnoff for me. especially for a device that has no site less navigation to speak of. I can call my most dialed numbers with out looking at my phone or voice dialing because it has keys. Cant do that without buttons. I wonder if this also implies that you can not initate calls with the wireless headset without using the screen. bummer.
To me, even more than no 3G the real missed opportunity with this device is the lack of GPS. Turn by turn directions with that google map software could have been really killer.
no MMS is an odd choice, the phone could probably auto resize prior to sending large images if they wanted. I would be looking for this and no-pay ringtone options in future updates.
Otherwise completely impressed. I will keep a close eye on this. I think the only thing really keeping me from making the plunge is my recently renewed verizon contract.
edit: I know people rag on the IM thing, but I bet that is one of the first apps someone makes specifically targeting the iphone browser and its "third party development platform" My guess is it shows up much sooner rather than later, and that apple will respond with its own app eventually.
