Yeah looks like its some kind of bootleg rip-off.

Currently 40+ people in line here now. The AT&T guy says they have somewhere between 40-60 units. It's gonna get ugly!

I just got back from the 5th avenue flagship apple store. Was a madhouse! They had every single employee clapping every time you went in...when you got down stairs...and when you left. Retarded. Stop f'ing clapping.

Iphone = so hot.

The story behind this pic is funny as hell.

In short this woman, 19, bought what she thought was a Nokia N95 for 600$ from some guy in a parking lot in Montreal. Then she figures it's not a real phone, so she goes back to see the guy in the parking lot and he says "well I can't refund you. so how about this: you give me 150$ more and I give you an iPhone straight from Europe?". The rest is history.

In short she paid 750$ for a fake "European" iPhone with Chinese characters written all over the box from some shady parking lot dude after he scammed her a first time.

... :lol :lol :lol

The story is here (in French, sadly)

No luck for me at two AT&T stores. I went over to a store that I THOUGHT was an AT&T store, but turned out to be a reseller. The guy there gave me directions to a nearby store that was selling them, but I couldn't find the damn thing anywhere. Turns out, it's a tiny store with no sign out front, but I couldn't find the damn thing until I was on my way home. But, I knew where another store was, so I quickly tried to zip over to it and join the line.

I got there and there were about 60 people in line in front of me. I waited until nearly 6 PM, and then an AT&T employee came out and started giving instructions. She wouldn't say how many phones they had, but she indicated a place in line where you "might not get product after this point". I shouted out "What does 'might not' mean?" And she told me that it was unlikely that i would go home with a phone from the store.

At that point I said ****-it. I'm not waiting in line for a couple of hours just so they can send me a phone. I'll just order one from Apple.com. I'll get it in the same amount of time, and I don't have to sit around waiting. It also didn't help that there was a very loud mouth guy in front of me in line that went on about all the things the iPhone couldn't do, but yet he was there to buy one anyway.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to get one online later.

AT&T guy just said they have 40 8gb models and 20 of the 4gb.

I can't see the back of the line from here but it looks like more than 60 people to me.

Fun times!

Is Safari fast? Are the CPU/memory constraints showing when browsing the web?

over wifi, it's very fast.

Over edge, it's not very fast, but it's doable.

Quick question:

I read earlier in the thread that its AT&T's fault not Apples for lack of 3G. I have the new Windows Mobile 8525 and it clearly says 3G on my phone right now (posting from it). Cingular does have a 3G wireless connection, right?

Is Cingular lying to me and my icon on my phone false,i s cingular really not 3G?

It seems fairly fast.... and when i get into certain areas beyond the OC, I lose the 3G icon and it switches to E (which means Edge i am assuming).

They didn't go with 3g because Jobs said it used too much power. Cingular/At&t has 3g. And apparently they upgraded the speed of EDGE. I used edge all the time on my old phone to check email and weather, and today there was definitely a speed bump.

Cingular has 3G. I have it on my Blackjack

Cool... thanks commish. I don't think I'm switching to the iPhone, though I think I will pick up one for my pops. The 8525 does everything the iPhone does (minus visual voicemail) with the Windows Mobile interface instead. Plus some things the iphone doesnt (3G, Mobile Office programs, mp3's as ringtones).

For anyone that doesn't pick up an iPhone you should chekc out the 8525 (or hermes in Europe). However, I think it's close to the same price lol.

Mac or PC?

PC - Videora Ipod converter.

Mac - Visual Hub....it is a gem and the best money I have ever spent on a program.
PC. I used to use Videora on my old video iPod that I had for 2 weeks and it would always **** up the syncing, any other options?

anyway, youtube is ****ing awesome on this!

Wtf? I thought it didn't support Flash..
It doesn't. Apple has a deal with google for them to convert every single video to h.264

The phone actually has a youtube CHANNEL to search vids and shit.

Man, it just feels so incredible to hold. $600 for a cellphone is completely dumb. But I'd be lying if I said this wasn't the best tech gadget I've ever bought, and I've bought them all.

I'm going to get in line at the Apple Store at the Menlo Park mall in Edison, New Jersey.

I worked at the Abercrombie there!!!!

The people in that apple store were so nice and this girl gave me a free pair of headphones when I told her mine were broken, and she said you'll hook me up at A&F right? I was like uh how did you know I worked there? - she was like I smell it on you :lol

That was my memorable one moment in the apple store - and there is that lady who tries to con everyone to apply to be a model, she def attempted to get you if you were over there cvx...

IPHONE IMPRESSONS PAPANGUS - are you dissapointed? Is it worth the hype? TELL ME.

Whoo just got my iphone from a locat att store here in Chicago. I was the last person to buy the 8gb. I will post impressions and maybe pics later on.

That isn't me. I won't get an iPhone until at least the 3rd or 4th gen and not until they extend it past AT&T because I ain't dropping Verizon.

Woot, just got back from Pentagon City Mall in Arlington, VA with my iPhone. The clapping employees were a bit funny. Camera crews from a local TV station were there interviewing people and about 10 minutes before they let us in the employees were running up and down the line trying to get people hyped. :lol

They told us they had a surprise gift for us, but I didn't get anything. They give you a black iPhone bag (great for letting people know exactly who to mug) and the unit itself. They encouraged you to allow them to email you your receipt so they can speed through the line--which they did. I was out of the store with my iPhone in hand by 6:10. I was approximately 50th or so in line. Final estimate was about 150-200 people in line. I don't have pictures of it yet but will try to get some up tonight.

These things are really sweet, the touchscreen is just perfect! :D

I've now been waiting for ove an hour for this damned activation crap!! itunes home activation = crap. .......comfort of your own home my ass.
