So... First party I went to since I got my iPhone and everyone is jumpin in the pool so I was like, hell yeah. No bathing suit but shorts are fine. MADE SURE to take out iPhone and hide in bags in the car first. So I jumped in, party went on, and now I'm home. Just was thinking to myself, "where is my screen wiper?"

Just looked in wet shorts.

Does anyone know how to configure it so that your iPhone gets your Gmail and marks it as read on your PC after you've read it on your iPhone? I enabled POP on my gmail settings and put the account info in the iPhone, but my iPhone keeps telling me I have shitloads of new Gmail messages when they just have never been read on the iPhone before (but I've already looked at them on my PC).

I'd like to know if there is a solution to this as well.

Also, is there a way to not have Gmail automatically send a copy of outgoing mail to my inbox when sent from my iPhone? It's already in my Outbox, I don't need it twice.

I'm not really sure there is a solution. Other e-mail friendly phones have the exact same issues. I just learned to kind of ignore them. I know it's tempting to want to keep everything neat and orderly on your new toy, but it works just as fine if you just spend a few minutes once a week to get your email cleaned up.

BlackBerry's allow you to set up filters through the website that will ignore the sent messages in your inbox.

Can't set it up on the phone which is stupid, but it works if you set up the web filter.

I wish it would only take emails from my gmail inbox. I have filters set up for stuff like Amazon, everything they sends me goes into an Amazon folder and skips the inbox but the iPhone just grabs all new mail so I have to click through it. If it was just Amazon it wouldn't be so bad but I have 8 or 9 filters like that. Stuff that I never see on my PC is all over my phone email box.

How do you set up a web filter?

I found it online when doing a search, but it was either done through the BB website or the ATT website (my BB is on the ATT network as well).

Let me dig and I'll update this if I find it.

I've got the gmail app for my phone http://gmail.com/app which basically works just like gmail but from your phone. Its java tho so you won't be able to use it on iphone :)

I think I may be getting the iPhone after all. Since I'm an existing AT&T customer, that $20 is a real deal for me.

For my plan (FamilyTalk or whatever it is....my mom takes care of all of the expenses for her, my dad, me, and my brother), I have the pay-per-use data service (Internet and text messages) and it came to a total of $20.69 for me. That $20 takes care of me, plus I get 200 text messages (I had 70 incoming/outgoing).
i'm on the at&t family plan too, do you have a link to the deal you're talking about? i know i spend $10 a month on my end, how much more would i have to pay for the deal?

After doing a little digging, I didn't find exactly where I did it, but it looks to almost definitely be a BB specific service.

Sorry :(

I have a RAZR, an 8800 (for work), and a BlackJack on the way. I went into AT&T today. I played with the iPhone for 10 minutes....

I really, really, really want one now, despite the fact that I don't need one AT ALL. I don't think I'll be happy until I get one.

F*cking Apple. F*ck you.

Yeah, I love my Blackberry but it will be hard to pass up the iPhone when my contract is up in September. If the new iPods use touch screen and are widescreen like the iPhone it will make the choice slightly easier.

This was probably already answered somewhere but can you play iTMS games on the iPhone?

I like the mail application on my phonebecause it automatically checks my mail every 10 minutes or so. I actually have to run that myself to check my mail. Thanks, though.

That's the big question. I'd really rather have an 80-gig iPod that's an iPhone without the phone (complete with WiFi and the ability to purchase iTunes songs directly).

question, can you access the itunes store from iphone?

on a different but related note, I'd really like to see apple start offering the option to rent movies/episodes on itunes. Netflix is already doing it... HD resolutions too plz. :p

Behold the dumbest question asked on the internets...... those plans linked, with minutes listed... are they monthly or daily? Like the 59.99 one with 450 minutes... it doesn't seem much spread out over a month, basically 15 minutes a day... but maybe too much if it means daily. I NEVER OWNED A CELLPHONE BEFORE so I never looked at these things. *runs*

A question for the people who have purchased one already. How much free room do you have left on it still?
About 1.5GB when I put a movie on, or nearly 3GB when I leave the movie off.

Didn't Steve Jobs say during the unveiling of the IPhone that this was indeed the new iteration of the IPod?

No. He didn't. But it's largely assumed that the next version will be like the iPhone but without the phone. It's still up in the air as to whether or not it will have WiFi as it could have an impact on battery life and a adding an HDD will impact that already.

Supposedly when Jobs gave his internal Apple keynote last week, when they gave out the free phones to employees, he mentioned up coming products and one of those was the "OS X iPod".

I don't intend to use my iPhone as a full blown iPod replacement, so I didn't load up all my music on it. I've got about 2-3GB of music, a couple of videos, some photos from my recent vacation and so on. I've probably got about half of it full.

I went to the Apple store at my local mall and I must say that I'm glad I was able to walk out of there without purchasing anything. lol.

Goodness, that machine is sexual healing. I now must have it, I plan to purchase it by the end of August. I gotta pay off my credit card 1st.

I place the blame on Kung Fu, my will is weak and my geek is strong.

I'll take the blame happily! :D

The phone, for me personally, lives up to all the hype and more. Performance is great, even on EDGE, and it does so many things so well that I have no buyers remorse what's so ever. I understand it's not a device for everyone, but it is pretty amazing.

I wholeheartedly agree now that I've found out how to increase the speaker volume on calls.

Low call volume was my only issue with the phone, and now that that is fixed, for my uses the device is nearly perfect

I'm interested in the views of people who have previously only owned traditional phones... in the UK, pay as you go top-up is popular (contracts are done a lot too, but with the amount of phone reselling and trading that goes around teenagers) and "blackberry" is a fruit and not a pda thingymabob and people generally have... proper... phones, not these all in one pocket pc whatjamacallits. It's really the complete difference between my current, small but extremely durable and reliable normal phone and iPhone which makes me weary, though price, closed platform, battery (really key thing for me, how people go 8 hours max for a phone is good battery life really confuses me) and other things add to it. I mean, I have an iPAQ pocket pc too, but I never use the damn thing.
So yes, thoughts from people who generally haven't used iPhone style phones in the past?

If it's really only 450 minutes (damn, that's horrible), that would be during the day. At night (after 7 or 9 depending on the carrier) and on the weekend, minutes should be free.

Well, previously I had a normal phone without any web features or anything major, so for me going to the iPhone is a pretty big change.

I didn't use my other phone very often, so it was only used for a few minutes of calls per month. It could only go a few days on standby without the battery dying. The iPhone is different in that I'm not spending all that much time making calls, but there are so many other things to do on the iPhone, and it has so many other functions that the battery runs down faster than it would on a high-end normal phone.

For a phone with its features, lasting 8 hrs on calls, 6 hrs on the web, 7 hrs of video playback or 24 hours of music playback through the ipod feature is quite impressive. If you don't want the other features, and only want a normal phone that doesn't have many things to do that drain battery life, then don't get the iPhone. You would be hard pressed to find another device of this type that has better battery life :)

thanks mimic. 30 bucks a month sounds too good to be true, but i hope they keep that going indefinitely. i wasn't even in the market for one till i heard about this deal, now my wheels are turning...

Don't forget that it's free if you're talking to someone else on the AT&T network, plus you have rollover minutes. I use my phone a lot, and the only time I've ever even had to dip into my rollover minutes in the past few years is when I've taken a lot of conference calls from my personal phone.

Most people do the majority of their cell phone talking to a small group of people, and if some or all of those people are on the same carrier, then you never use your minutes. I've had months where I only used 100 minutes, so it's not that big of a deal.

you can set the iphone to check every 10,15,30min or an hour IRC. As for Gmail and stuff why not just use safari for that? I have hotmail bookmarked on safari and the email app setup for my 'real' email.

Does anyone know how to text a message to multiple people? I can't figure it out and that would suck if you can't. Hope they update that.

Oh and, Is YouTube going to convert all their videos or are they just doing the most viewed? And if they are doing all of em, link please :D

Late bump, but this was funny as ****. :lol That's nice that AT&T doesn't charge you minutes for talking on the same network -- I don't really know the deal with T-Mobile.. I'm still on the same plan as my mom. :lol

As for usage here is what my 8gig looks like

I need some more songs! Is there an app out there yet that lets you just drag and drop mp3s on the thing?

I had heard somewhere that they were going to convert them all, but that was a point of discussion a week or so before the iPhone release in this thread. I think at this point they're doing most of their back catalog, and going forward everything should be available. I know they said we can expect a lot more by fall.

I played with the iphone at the apple store yesterday. Pretty cool. Very intuitive for the most part. The keyboard was a bit tough to use. If I wasn't in a contract with such an awesome cell plan I'd have a tough time staying away from it.

Yeah, I couldn't figure that either. Even though they are billed as separate messages, I hope they firmware update it.

Right now it's most viewed and all new uploaded videos (go to "More" in the bottom right corner->"Most Recent".) Old videos with low viewcounts are being converted daily, you will start seeing them pop in.

Couldn't you just drag MP3s on to the iTunes Library folder and then sync it? I did that for a friend of mine's PC and it seemed to work.

yeah, but due to a HDD crash I lost alot of mp3s. It can't sync with multiple itunes librarys, so if I want to put songs on from my work PC I have to delete all the ones from my house. :(

I need to take my new external drive around, dump all my mp3s on it, then copy them to my home computer. Not the end of the world but not the best.

So, are there shortages or are Ebayers getting bent over? Completed listings are showing pretty slim profit margins. I could still get almost $100 over MSRP for a Wii today.

I think people are less willing to buy a cell phone on eBay than a console. Also, the online Apple Store is claiming only a two to four week wait for an iPhone, which on the low end is hardly longer than the wait to get one from an eBay reseller, plus cheaper and less risky.

Yeah, 2-4 weeks is about on par with the Ebay average. I did see one listing that claimed he could do "overnight, even internationally" ... yeah, good luck getting anything anywhere internationally overnight. 3 days minimum and it'll set you back $80 or so.

Demand is there, but so is supply. That means eBayers will not see the profits they're seeking, unfortunately.

Personally, I don't care if Apple never sells another. This thing lives up to all of the hype -- a very impressive achievement considering the "impossible" expectations.
