The OEM buds do nothing but fall out of my ear, in addition to lacking fidelity on the lower end. Short of saving a few bucks on Q-Tips and letting wax build up, I have no idea how to make them stay in my ears.

They fall out of my ears if I try to be too active with them. Running and such. But they're fine for just listening to music, walking around, basic use. I agree they don't offer the best fidelity, but they're good enough considering that they also work with the phone. When I want to listen to something with better sound, I have far better head phones for that. As I said, these are adequate for the job.

I use the Shure Music Adapter coupled with my Sony earbuds.

The Sony earbuds have a shorter cable, so it works well and I am still able to answer calls and skip songs with the adapter. So far it seems to be the best solution IMO.

^^

Bless you!

Damn. It isn't in stock anywhere (b&m).

The hell is the 'Genius Bar' and why is an appointment needed for an exchange? The Apple Store is weird.

You know what would be great...? If the iPhone allowed you to use the built in microphone while you have a headset plugged in. That alone, IMO is the phone's biggest fault.

Trying my best to ignore that, I went out and bought a $100 pair pf headphones (w/ in-line mic).

They were pretty damn nice, although I read reports of them easily developing 'shorts' resulting in the audio not working on one side. Well, 3 weeks of everyday use and mine did the same.

Two questions:

1. Is there anything out there that's better (with a mic)?
2. I bought them at the Apple Store, have the receipt... Will they at least give me store credit?

I have those. I love em. I got the newer model... the one that will let me pause and skip songs in itunes as well as answer calls. I used my $100 apple credit

They're about as reliable as a launch 360. Enjoy them while you can.

Derp!

I'm trying to whip up some custom ringtones, and for some reason certain files are not going into my Ringtones folder when I drag and drop them there. I've converted them and then renamed them to .m4r files.

What am I doing wrong here GAF?

Thanks.

Edit: Nevermind. I'm a retard, as usual. :lol

Just wanted to chime in on the new Google interface for iPhone. It's awesome. I love the way G-mail looks on there and the easy access to your Google Calendars is great. Everyting looks so great, I just need to start populating the reader with more feeds.

I wish Sennheiser would step up and release an iPhone version of the CX300 headphones I've been using with my wee Shuffle. Damn good sound!

Reader's been iPhone-ized for a couple weeks now and is absolutely stellar. The only way I would read RSS on iPhone now.

Anyone else see this:

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/rumor/iphone-113-update-coming-by-saturday-with-new-features-330709.php

Rumor has it that the 1.1.3 update for iPhone is coming soon, article says by Saturday, which seems rather quick to me. It's suppose to add voice recording and the ability to use the iPhone as a mass storage device.

Obviously take it with a bit of a grain of salt, but while the timing may be off, the updates have been hinted at for awhile. Both would be welcome additions in my opinion.

That does sound cool... but where are these additions:

1. iChat
2. MMS messaging (when I think of MMS I laugh, because if anyone watches the show CHUCK, he has a iPhone and on this past Monday, his friend Morgan sent him a picture message from his celphone... which is ironic, since the iphone cant accept pic messages, unless you go to that crap website they have).

Yeah, I caught that on Chuck as well. :lol

Is there anything useful that can be done w/ iSpit? It's a web server that allows you to browse, via a web browser, the files on your iPhone.

Also, iRadio is greatness.

Just read this on macrumors:

http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/2007/12/06/native-mms-application-for-iphone/

macrumors.com said:
A native MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) application has been released for the iPhone. The 0.1 release only allows sending MMS messages and will not receive them. MMS allows you to send multimedia (such as photos) to others via text-messaging. In it's current incarnation, the iPhone only supports SMS (text messaging).

The application is still an early version and requires some manual setup to work with your provider. More information is available on the author's blog.

Owners of "hacked" iPhones can install it using Installer.app.

See this is what is annoying to me as someone who doesnt have a hacked phone. If these 3rd party apps can allow MMS style messaging on the iPhone, why the hell cant apple do that...

Well, it doesn't really allow MMS. Just sending. Which you can do already, through e-mail.

It's not like Apple can't get it to do MMS. There was probably a reason why they elected to only go with SMS. But that doesn't mean it won't be added in the future. Personally, this is not a feature I care about at all, but I'm sure they can add it down the line.

See I care about it... because when I have a friend who sends me a MMS I have to go to that stupid viewmymessage.com site and its a PitA to do that when you are walking around the city....

We've gone around about this several times in this thread already, so no need to go down that road again. Last time out, it was split about 50-50 on who wanted to see MMS on the iPhone.

I respect that it's a feature that you want, and it is a bit odd that it's not on there already, but I'm sure it's something that can be added in the future. All I'm saying, as someone who doesn't want or need it, I have a hard time wondering why it's such a big deal. I'm sure you, and others who use MMS, can't understand why I don't care about it. It's just one of those kinds of features. I can't think of a single time when I just NEED to see some image at that very moment. E-mail it to me for later. Hell, e-mail me now, as I can see and respond to that easily.

Then again, I'm guessing that this is a bit of a generational thing, and that I'm older than you are. :lol

C'mon Apple . . . VOICE DIALING . . . it's not that damn hard!

Actually, I'd be willing to bet that this is a lot harder to implement than MMS. There would obviously have to be voice recognition code added to be able to do that, and that's no small feat. On the other hand, OS X does have some voice recognition built in, but whether or not it's been ported over to the iPhone has yet to be determined.

So I went to the Apple store to try and exchange the defective set of Moda Vibe Duo headphones I bought 3 weeks ago. The 'Genius' told me he'd have to clear it with his manager. He came back telling me what I knew they'd try all along: "You'll have to get it exchanged through the manufacturer."

I then asked to speak to the manager myself. That did it I guess as the 'Genius' came back and allowed me to exchange it for the same ones (but this time, w/ the button on it). I went ahead and bought an Agent 18 clear case as well.

Had they not obliged, I was going to announce my intent lead an Anti-Apple Store crusade, and then close w/ a tipping of a rack of some sort on the way out.

Perhaps, but my freaking LG Chocolate had voice dialing. It's not like it's some exotic feature reserved for the upper-echelon of cell phones. I'm in my car ALOT, so it would be a very nice feature since I don't really have a good mounting solution to make touch dialing very easy (or safe) in the car - contact list or not.

Speaking of the Contacts - I wish there were a button to access it on the home screen. Given you can use it to launch a TXT or email as well as making calls it doesn't make much sense to bury it behind the phone icon.

Any word on an Iphone revision yet? I'm holding off buying one for myself / for friends as the camera doesn't have any auto focus or a flash for that matter.

There's Macworld expo next month, so maybe something could be announced by then. I'm kinda curious myself as well.

Anyone know where I can get a 4gb Iphone cheap? or anyone looking to get rid of theirs? :D I don't like people here in Canada charging 450-500$ when they went over the boarder and got it for 299.99 or in some cases cheaper.

Agreed on both accounts. Voice dialing would be a nice addition. I'm just not sure how easy/difficult it would be to implement. Like I said, OS X has voice recognition built in, but not sure if the iPhone's version has it.

Rumors of a 3G iPhone hitting next Summer seem to have some credence based on comments by Jobs and the CEO of AT&T. I wouldn't expect any new revisions until then.

Also, good luck finding a 4GB version now.

Hey guys. I'm planning on buying an iPhone for Christmas, and I was wondering what you kind of accessories everyone picked up for their new phone. :D

Has nothing to do with the iPhone, that's a problem with Cingular.

For those waiting for an iPhone revision... when we know the date of the Japanese release, we'll know when our revision will be. Apple simply CAN'T release iPhone there without it being 3G, as Japan has almost totally abandoned the concept of EDGE-speed data. So yeah, with a bump to 3G, expect a few other little surprises, as well, I'm sure.

Does anyone have a decent solution for playing music from their iPhone on a computer? I can only find one program to extract the music and it costs $10. Seems dumb for such a simple feature. :\

You could almost say the same about O2 in the UK though. EDGE penetration at launch was ... what, 30%?

I wasn't trying to be a jerk. Just pointed out something I thought you managed to overlook. Especially since there's this really big thread on MBPs.

Apple is now (quietly) sanctioning custom ringtones.

If you have GarageBand 4.1.1 you can make your own custom ringtones (sorry Windows users). The option is actually called "Send Ringtone to iTunes". Granted, they are assuming you're using only Apple loops but I would assume you can put any audio into GarageBand and it will work. I'll try it tonight. They have posted the instructions on their website.

This is truly awesome. That's how I made my custom ringtones anyway, saves me the step of having to rename the file / add it to iTunes :P

holy shit mobile safari is beyond amazing

This is the best thing everrrrrrrrrrr

It is truly the killer app for this phone. If you have tried Opera Mobile then you know how great it actually is.

Anyone else see the new app yesterday that allowed the iPhone to film video? Just goes to show what can be done with the device with the proper coding in place.

And yeah, mobile Safari is amazing.

Why are there no in-line remotes for the iPhone, or iPods in general?

I'd love to leave it in my pocket and be able to answer calls, see who's calling etc.

Yea, hopefully Apple adds it as an official feature. Hopefully they allow for 2mp filming too, because that would be awesome- most cells nowadays only allow for filming at absurd, small resolutions.

Any good case recommendations? I have a Best Skins Ever film applied to mine, but seek additional protection.

how do I get scummvm on the iPhone?
Search "scummvm for iphone" on google. You have to add another source in Installer.app (I don't remember it), then upload the game directories to the specified area on the iphone (all defined through the app's readme).
