Does anyone have any new rumors about how apps will install(i.e. through iTunes), and whether or not they will be pay only through the ITMS?

Will free apps be allowed?

Phoenix was hinting it wouldn't necessary have to go through the iTunes store, but I'm guessing to get linked there you would have to pass certain certification?

I imagine developers/companies/websites would like to have the ability for people to download/install apps directly from their site, so I don't think it will have to go through iTunes. An 'official' version of Installer would be great.

How restricted Apple will make it, who knows. It might just come down to a password to install anything, like OSX, or everyone who wants to develop for it and have things made available for download will have to be certified. Probably the latter.

My guess is that, much like podcasts, they'll go through the store. You can get podcasts other ways, but if you don't get them via the store they don't show up in your "Podcasts" listing.

My thought is that developers will create files you download from their websites that when double clicked, launches iTunes to be synced with your device. Thus, to install apps you'll likely have to be at your computer.

By requiring iTunes to preform the sync/install, Apple can use it to perform their secure developer ID check or whatever they call that security scheme they have been working on.

We went and oogled these last night. Really wish they had voice dialing. Is it possible for a future third party app to do this, or do you think apple will closely control what functions these apps can execute?

Has anyone ever had any problems with creaking noises coming from the area between where the black and silver materials connect on the sides (when a small amount of pressure is applied)? When I hold my phone now, it always makes a sight creak on the sides because the black part pushes in a tiny bit.

Do you thing they'll let me exchange my iPhone if I take it in or ship it?

Mine does that too. I don't feel like taking it to get exchanged though.

Ok, so I finally bit the bullet and bought the iPhone. But I want to make sure I can still do something.

I'm currently using my gf's old iPod mini between two iTunes libraries - one on my personal computer, one on my laptop. (NOTE: The majority of music is content from iTunes.) Would I still be able to plug into both and load music from both? Or would I only be able to load music from one computer?

Thanks.

My iphone has stopped working. Simply won't power up. how do you go about sending this to apple and getting it repaired?
If you have an Apple store nearby, take it there. I've done it twice already. :(

Yes, it's possible that Apple or someone else, could add voice dialing to the iPhone. OS X has voice recognition features built in, and the iPhone runs on a slim version of OS X.

My last phone had voice dialing and it was useful, but I don't miss it one bit on the iPhone. My favorites list has my most dialed numbers on it for easy access, and it's simple to find something in your contacts otherwise. I can understand why people like voice dialing, but I can't understand why it would be a deal breaker on the iPhone. Still, it's quite possible we'll see it added in the future.

What? My iPhone syncs podcasts just fine as is.

My iPhone hates syncing, more often than not iTunes will hang, prompting a force quit. That or I get an error message saying the phone cant be read/write to. The only way I can get music on it is if I turn my internet off to disable the crash report process.

This is the error

I have 10.5, latest iTunes, 1.1.2 firmware. :(

Than you have a problem with either the phone, or the version of iTunes you're running. Have you updated your iTunes to the newest version?

I have used my iPhone with Windows and OSX and never once experienced this.

EDIT: I just read your edit. Looks like you have a bum phone. Just take it back to the Apple store and replace it. It's super easy.

iPhone is the best device I've ever had.
I wake up with it, use it all day and get asleep with it.
Tech purchases (consoles, Sony UX50, Sony Ericson 900i, HDTV, etc.) always make me happy, but I've never felt that complete before. Simply put, iPhone is all I need :-)

Among the new apps, I recommend TuneWiki, which makes me revisit all my songs to read the lyrics. VNsea is cool as well to download new torrents on my home computer while I'm at work. Sendsong is great to share rare songs you like with friends. And of course VNotes is still one of the best apps I got. I hope they will soon allow us to save call records.

iPhone version: Jailbreak 1.1.1.

Quick question.

Do you think its possible that someone would make an app for the iphone that would stream music off the web, kinda of like how winamp has different channels for music genres?

Also we need to compile a list of our fav, websites to visit that really utilize the Iphone.

I think meeboo is pretty decent.

Have you tried restoring the iPhone to see if that makes a difference? Worth a shot and cures a lot of issues. How about uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling a fresh version? What have you done to attempt to resolve the issue?

I had some sync issues that seemed to be created by on the go playlists. Try deleting those from iTunes if you have them (I am on current version of everything- phone, OS X, and iTunes).

I get this a lot also but for me closing itunes and then re-opening it works for me or rebooting my computer.

Second pair in 6 weeks!

I have those... had them since Sept, never opened, then exchanged for the ones that actually did the same thing that the headphones that came with the iphone did... I have been using those since late November, and haven't had one issue.

The only other option I see to the crappy Vmode earphones are Shure's expensive offerings.

And crap, I think I've found the nub of my problem, my external WD MyBook drive will not verify or repair itself (where my iTunes library is), I think it's about to crap out on me and throw 300 gigs of music and films into the void :(
DiskUtility doesn't work, are there any alternatives?

there is also this

and those inline products that add the music control and the mic to existing headphones

I sure do love my new iPhone! But one question... why doesn't my mail sync properly?

I have a Gmail account. My unread messages load up on mail.app, and they load up on my iPhone. But if I read them on one of my machines and then sync, they still remain "unread" on the other. What am I doing wrong? Scrolling through 30 messages on my iPhone at the end of the work day just to mark them read is pretty silly.

You need to set up your gmail account with imap instead of pop.

I have Apple Store credit man...

I'll be damn if I have to pay any more than the $104 I've already dropped on the v-moda POSs. I'll try and returning them for store credit, and I hope that with that, I can buy them online.
I don't understand why they don't carry them in-store.

Jill, this is an off topic question but how did you take a screenshot of that dialog box so that it included the alpha channel drop shadow? Or did you add the drop shadow yourself?

Anybody came across your iPhone not being able to receive calls? I have a jailbroken 1.1.1 iPhone and recently have been also trouble syncing. It's been taking a lot longer than it used to and the ability to not recieve calls started last night. I get texts and voicemails just fine, but calls just don't show up.

Maybe it's time for a restore? Obviously the restore will put me back to the original 1.1.1 state. Will I just be able to go to http://jailbreakme.com/ to jailbreak the phone again even though it originally fixed the TIFF exploit?

I used command+shift+4 to get the screengrab crosshairs, then pressed spacebar to switch to the camera which takes a shot of the active window.

That is so cool. Thanks for the tip.

I had a similar problem last night, but my iphone is not jail broken. Now that Im at work, it functions fine but it seems like a problem in or around my house....Thoughts?

Where do you live. Im in North NJ. Maybe a tower is down or something.

Just had a friend call me and it worked. I thought maybe it was a tower problem last night since I could make calls (forgot to mention that), just not receive them. I'm in the middle-of-nowhere Missouri, but it could have possibly been an AT&T problem. Who knows?

If your phone isn't receiving calls, the most likely explanation is probably a poor connection to the tower resulting in a really time-consuming check for Mail. Do you have it set up to check your mail every 15 minutes? When my phone doesn't have a proper Edge connection, I've been able to pick apart that it'll actually lock up the connection for 5-7 minutes every 15 minutes attempting to connect to my mail server. That results in nearly a half-the-time failure to receive calls, which all go straight to voicemail.
