Is Blizzard going to show a new game at BlizzCon?

Just saw this when I woke up.

Quoted from the VG247 article (here's the link):
Blizzard has left a two hour gap from noon till 2:00PM on the main stage at BlizzCon 2014, something it has never done before.

Additionally, it seems there’s a bit of unaccounted for floorspace in one of the halls.

Redditor ReddinRules noticed these unusual discrepancies and has theorised that Blizzard may have a surprise new game (or expansion) to show.

It’s quite possible the developer left the gap to make the convention less exhausting for organisers and attendees alike, and the floorspace discrepancy may be designed to make the hall more comfortable.

On top of that, Blizzard has Warlords of Draenor coming up in November, which it probably doesn’t want to distract from, and another Diablo 3 expansion seems quite unlikely at this stage. Furthermore, Titan has been cancelled so we know it can’t be that.

Still, it’s fun to speculate about a Warcraft 4 announce, isn’t it? If you’re a believer, you may want to pick up a virtual ticket to BlizzCon 2014. Plus you’ll be able to see Metallica. Unless that’s what’s in the gap

EDIT: Link to the reddit article

I know it's probably Legacy Of The Void but still.
What do you guys think?

I don't think so.
I doubt we will see WC4 in this decade.
And blizzard has already realeased 2(!) new games this year, so i don't think they will make anything new anytime soon.

If you don't want to click, it's almost certainly related to the re-release and possible updating of the Classic Warcraft trilogy

I'm not so certain... While we just got confirmation recently that Titan was cancelled, it was likely shelved near the beginning of the year. That leaves one of Blizzard's largest team of developers not doing anything in that time period. It's possible that, beyond what I mentioned above, they have been chugging along at another project.

I know it's Blizzard time we're talking about, but why is it too early for next D3 expansion announcement? Reveal now, release a year later, plenty of time for development. It's just an expansion (probably only one more act), nothing grandiose.

I'm going with the idea that they will announce and maybe tease Warcraft 4, but will mainly focus on a "remastered" original trilogy that will be out a lot sooner

God, this would mean another 2 years of Warcraft Risk, Lost Lingskoms or War Of The Twelve Kingdoms. Those were my alltime favourite WC3 mods.

Legacy Of The Void just feels like a tumbleweed slowly blowing past at this point, I really hope it's more than that.

Legacy of the Void is (likely) going to be discussed at the Starcraft 2 panel titled "What's next?". It doesn't make sense to have a panel about what's next for SC2 AND a seperate panel for a SC2 expansion :)

Given that Warcraft 3 bits and pieces were found within the battle.net client after a recent update one can hope that at least we'd get a re-release of it.

Warcraft III in an updated SC2 engine would be really good. Heroes of the storm looks pretty good, I feel like the more cartoony style fits the engine more then the more realistic one from the starcraft universe.

Warcraft IV would be amazing, but if announced I don't think they'll have much to show for it yet.

For those thinking this is for an existing franchise, check out the official Blizzcon schedule.

http://us.battle.net/blizzcon/en/event-info/schedule/friday

Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm all have their own dedicated panel times. This is the only time Blizzcon has had a 2 hour long gap on their main stage during the first day of Blizzcon, and the gap is immediately after opening ceremony, which is when they traditionally spend time talking about their big opening ceremony annoucement.

Whatever the announcement is, Blizzard is expecting it to be the biggest announcement of the show. An updated Warcraft trilogy would fit that bill fairly nicely IMO, but it could be something even bigger than that.

I think the Warcraft movie trailer is going to be the big thing this year.

This also has it's own scheduled time slot after this mysterious empty place in the schedule. It's definitely going to get some time to shine, but it's not going to be the highlight I don't think (especially since it hasn't even started filiming yet has it?)

I'd imagine the big thing at this year's BlizzCon to be presented like this...

After 12 long years, Blizzard is finally ready to re-announce the announcement of none other than:

Starcraft: Ghost

For PS2, Xbox and Gamecube

DLC Season Pass includes:
- Ghost as playable character! Woooww!!!
- Terran Allies
- Protoss and Zerg Adversaries
- WarBrood: The Brood of War Mission Pack
- Featuring hit tracks by the Notorious SCV "Good To Go Sir", and "I Can't Build There"

Look forward to the HYPE!!!

A visual update to the Warcraft trilogy, and maybe even a teaser to Warcraft IV, would beat any other possible announcement I can think of. Maybe another D3 expansion would make me happier, but I doubt that will happen. Either way it's exciting to speculate, even though I'm keeping my expectations in check for now.

I've always wondered why there is no Warcraft 4. How well did Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne sell?

I'm surprisingly having a hard time finding numbers on it, it sold well over 1 million the first month, and shipped 4.5 million in that same period. It's also STILL sold in many stores to this day, you won't find a game on any system, let alone PC that has had retail copies in stores for a decade.

It was definitely a many multi-million seller, and the reason why we didn't see Warcraft 4 is the same reason it took over a decade for Starcraft 2... Blizzard takes a long time to make games. That and World of Warcraft has eaten up a lot of possible story for a true sequel.

(Edit) I'm seeing a site that says RoC sold 3 million and that TFT sold 5 million, which makes absolutely no sense unless the TFT numbers are combined with Battlechest numbers (which sell both RoC and TFT together). For a PC game in 2002, the numbers were huge.

WC3 HD with touchscreen optimized controls would be my first day 1 Blizzard game ever.

I don't want a sequel, WoW seem to have taken a big dump on whatever mythology the universe had. I mean pandas? Come the fuck on!

Blizzard will surely continue their fine tradition of taking their old April Fools jokes and making them real and finally announce Blackthorne 2: Thorne Harder for reals.

I'm sure WC3 or the addon had pandas in them. They just made a story out of it. But after killing everything that I knew from WC3 and TFT, my interest in the game died down.

Did you not play to the end of The Frozen Throne? You realize Chen Stormstout was one of the founding members of Thrall's horde right? His role in securing Durotar is on par with that of Rexxar's.

All they did with Mists of Pandaria was expand out lore that already existed.

WC3 HD would be awesome, so it'll probably be some mediocre F2P game that people play because it's got Blizzard on the box.

Wonder where they got the idea for Pandas anyway.

Yeah, but it's fashionable to hate on Pandas, do you even internet?

If it's not a new IP, it has to be a Diablo 3 expansion imo.

I think we're long overdue a proper announcement for Legacy of the Void. I'd be really surprised if it's not there, even for one of those two hours. Having never played any of the Warcraft RTS games, though, a trilogy pack sounds right up my street.

Doubt they would kick out a 2 hour section of the event for an updated WarCraft 3. As much as I love that game, it doesn't need 2 hours of show time.

Me thinks it will be a game in vein of Hearthstone, aka one from a small team again.

They have to realize people aren't nearly as interested in a SC2 expansion as they are in something like Heroes of the Storm or the potential for a Diablo 3 expansion.

http://wowpedia.org/Pandaren_(April_Fools)

An April Fool's joke released a few months prior to TFT's release. Blizzard has a history of hinting at future content via April fools (hidden amongst their actual jokes/pranks). While there was no fifth race added to TFT, the models used for the April's Fools were used for neutral heroes and, as noted, Chen Stormstout and his appearance at the end of TFT.

For Warcraft 3 alone? Probably not... But if it's an updated rerelease of the original trilogy that has been hinted at, I'd say it's possible. That would give a lot of time to go over new features, developer interviews, Q&A, as it relates to it.

That said, it may be something much bigger. It could very well be a new game or a new IP entirely. As I said, this is almost certainly going to be a big announcement, and it's unlikely to be an expansion for an existing game.

No chance of Warcraft 4. Not while they're pushing WoW so hard (WoD on the horizon, and committing to a new expansion every year from now on).

The re-release of Warcraft 1-3, with full HD widescreen support, is clearly designed to appease the fans of those games in the absence of a sequel. Don't go getting your hopes up thinking this is a sign Wacraft 4 is coming. It's the exact opposite.

You do realize if they announce it now,it won't be out for at minimum 3 years, right? This is blizzard we are talking about here.

Yep, and I still think you're setting yourself up for disappointment if you're reading an HD re-release of Warcraft 1-3 as a sign of a Warcraft 4 announcement, rather than a sign that Blizzard are trying to appease fans of the RTS series while WoW is seeing increased development priority.

Mike Booth (designer of Left 4 Dead) was hired by Blizzard ~1½-2 years ago and is Game Director on an unannounced game.
