Is Blizzard going to show a new game at BlizzCon?

I am 95% sure Blizzard has something up their sleeve for the opening ceremony that will cover that unusual break between the opening ceremony and the next panel. However, I doubt it would be the Warcraft RTS remasters, there's no way it would take 2 hours of time.

I'm waiting patiently for it all. :)

Oh I wouldn't say there is no way it could take two hours of time. If it is simply throwing Warcraft 1-3 up on the Battlenet launcher as they were, then yeah stretching it over two hours seems kind of thin. If instead they are remastering Warcraft 1-3 in say the Starcraft 2 engine, making all three games updated graphically to be on par with SC2, and selling the lot as some kind of Warcraft Battle Chest Package, and even giving all three games online multiplayer support and achievements, well then I could EASILY see it not only taking two hours to reveal but stealing the spotlight of the entire show. Which may be why they are putting it front and center for this years Blizzcon.

But yeah, it sound too good to be true. Most likely it's just overall generic introduction to the Blizzcon event.

I don't want a sequel, WoW seem to have taken a big dump on whatever mythology the universe had. I mean pandas? Come the fuck on!

The Pandaren Brewmaster Chen Stormstout was there for the founding of Durotar, with Rokhan and Rexxar. It's right there in the Warcraft III Frozen Throne downloadable campaign.

It's OK to be mad at the lore, or at pandarens in specific, but don't act like it all started with WoW. It's just wrong. WoW just made it harder to deny or ignore those goofy parts of the lore, but they were there all along.

This fits my current theory:

Blizzard is going to announce the new expansion after Warlords of Draenor - to show they are serious this time about faster content delivery.

Legacy of the Void will certainly be there, probably a trailer in the opening ceremony and discussion at the panels. And they already (sorta) talked about the Warcraft HD releases in the works last year. So yeah I'm leaning towards it being something brand new as well if those time slots mean anything at all. Super hyped.

I think that is the least likely of all potential scenarios.

Tauren are not and never were as silly as the Pandaren. And the Pandaren were introduced into Warcraft as a joke mind you. And a joke they remain.

That's because you've decided talking cows, little gnomes and gobins are more serious than talking pandas. The portrayal of pandarens in MoP was a blend of funny and serious.

It's hilarious that there are full-on news articles about gaps in the Blizzcon schedule.

After I reported on what Titan actually was, I heard that when Titan was cancelled in mid-2013, it was reworked into a new, far smaller game (code-named Prometheus), and that we might see this new thing at Blizzcon. I guess we'll see soon!

"Hey, remember how we will make you cough up 50 bucks for our new expansion next week? Well guess what, you're gonna do it AGAIN in less than a year!"

Nope, seems to be a very bad business decision, I highly doubt it's going to happen. Even if they do deliver content faster, it's the worst place to announce it.

None of them are as silly as the Pandaren. The Pandaren should have stayed an April Fools joke and been forgotten.

Do you think Prometheus and Overwatch could be the same thing?

This is the sister company of Activision. The one that announced the expansion pack for Destiny before the game even came out.

Yeah, given how long they've been hiring from some unannounced projects, and how shootery some of the remaining job postings they have sound, I'm wondering if Prometheus is that Overwatch thing they trademarked recently.

I could see the Warcraft updates on the second stage, but both stages at the same time would be a bit surprising for something like that.

Now, I didn't realize these were potentially separate projects, but this was my best guess when I thought unannounced was only one game: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=825046&highlight=blizzard

I'm really excited to see this if it's actually a new game. I'm been super happy with their smaller team games lately.

Thanks for the heads up btw.

Gnomes are absolutely sillier than Pandaren.

Agreed. The best thing is probably to do what FFXIV just did -- "Hey, you've got a major content patch dumping in 2 weeks, and one more 3 months after that, and then 3 months after that we'll have an expansion for you!"

WoW needs to get better at that and not have year+ long gaps in content.

We're definitely going to hear about WC3's 'remaster', but I highly suspect it's simply retooling the game to work on modern systems, maybe proper widescreen support. I don't even think it'll get modern day Battle.net features. It's coming soon though (the background files and such are in the Battle.net launcher now).

I think we'll get a surprise Diablo 3 expansion or new(ish) IP; if it's the latter, it's probably mobile or F2P.

Who said that it had to be out less than a year or in a year? Simply announcing it keeps it in people's minds that WoW is still fresh and being worked on. They can announce something big and ambitious and spend the next 2 years working on it to keep people interested in WoW. It wouldn't distract from Warlords because it is all the same game. Warlords has been shown and talked about to death. No reason not to move on at Blizzcon.

Do some digging and find out if Warcraft HD is happening. You are a press sneak fuck aren't you?? Get it done!

Well, I do want to note they are putting specifically orc models into the StarCraft 2 editor, so it's plausible that was just for promoting Draenor instead of a full on Warcraft HD Remaster.

Though I'd love a Warcraft HD remaster too!

Yeah those models made me want a remaster even more. I'd love to play through the WC3 campaign with those graphics. :o

If you want a new Warcraft, you shouldn't play Heroes of the Storm. All it will make you think is how great a new Warcraft would look.

I feel the character model quality in Heroes is basically to the point where they wouldn't look out of place in an f2p over the shoulder third person game.

It's not going to make a PS4 game sweat, but still given what the game is I feel that's a good feat.

Gnomes. Dead serious.

Following WoW from it's first announcements, I can remember such a huge uproar when gnomes were announced as the 4th alliance race... Many of the same arguments against pandarens (they were jokes, they didn't play a major role in any warcraft game, etc).

Doesn't change the fact that Chen Stormstout was one of the founders of Durotar and thus fathers of Thrall's horde. It makes him a rather important part of Warcraft lore, and all Mists did was give us a deeper look at him and his people... just as BC gave us a deeper look into the Blood Elf lore.

I also hope it's something new, but I would be disappointed if they don't officially announce Legacy of the Void and show it off at some point during Blizzcon.

I'm hoping they take more chances with Legacy of the Void seeing as how SC2 has dropped in popularity among the esports crowd. I'd really love to see them shake things up for this final expansion.

I'm betting it's something to do with Warcraft. Probably to coincide with WoW's tenth anniversary.
I wish it would be a dark Warcraft game with the Souls series' gameplay and mechanics. Essentially like a reskin of those games in the Warcraft setting.

Agreed. Biggest thing for me is that they catch up on the features (observing, coaching mode, customization, etc.), because SC2 is way behind other esport games when it comes to that sort of stuff.

I was one of those who complained waaay back then (was a huge Warcraft junkie, yet only played WoW for 2 months total at launch), but only because we already had a short race (dwarf) and found it a stupid waste of race.

I still find them stupid.

I feel the biggest e-Sports also tend to be around living products.

StarCraft 2 needs to be willing to change things more often post launch if they really want attention in the modern era.

Yeah that's also really true. Hopefully Blizzard's realized that only making significant changes when expansions arrive isn't such a good model for an esport game. It'll be interesting to see whether they address this in one of the SC2 panels given that LotV is the final expansion.

I know it's Blizzard time we're talking about, but why is it too early for next D3 expansion announcement? Reveal now, release a year later, plenty of time for development. It's just an expansion (probably only one more act), nothing grandiose.

If it was Legacy of the Void they'd say so to sell more tickets. We still need the last expansion for D3 so I can see this being correct.

I would like to see something new. It was at least refreshing to think Titan was coming. I love their 3 universes, but I really want to see them try their hand at creating a new one.

Or just give me another D3 expansion.

Blizzcon sells out fast every year so I think that's a bit silly. No doubt in my mind LotV is gonna be there, especially given the protoss theme of the known SC2 portrait goodie and the other spoiler tagged one, indicating there's something SC2 related that they don't want us to see until after they've had a chance to show it at Blizzcon.

People like you are why I can't take critics of Warcraft's lore seriously. Pandaren haven't been joke characters since Frozen Throne. That was when they were made official.
