Finished Demon Slayer today, it took a little longer than I expected because I had to go back and watch the last half of Episode 19 about five times.

Seriously I think this is easily one of the greatest anime episodes of all time.

Just the animation, emotion, and music (and the fact that it's CG that doesn't look like Berserk shit):

And how it fades into the credits:

I generally think reaction videos are stupid, but this is pretty accurate:

You gotta give it credit. I'm pretty sure prior to ep 19, Demon Slayer was simply a "moderate" success as an anime so far, with most praise going to the Ufotable stunning visuals.

But after EP 19 it trended all over on social media and such, and that pretty much propelled it into a global phenomenon. Can't say I can recall any other anime single episode doing that much for a franchise.

Nope.

Nice ass visuals, but it’s all the melodramatic saccharine shmaltz of the rest of the series cranked up to 13. At least there's no Zenitsu in that one (from what I remember).

Now the first half of the LAST episode of the series was the only thing in this whole show that had me actively going "Holy Fuck," but that was muted by me wishing the show had done something like it sooner and, of course, being reminded of Zenitsu's existence 2 seconds later.

I was going to buy season 1 today but it is $62.00 on iTunes. Ouchie.
It’s on Netflix and Hulu. Subbed is on Funimation.

I'm not into subscription services. I'll just wait for a sale. I bought into the hype for One Punch Man and Attack on Titan (to a lesser extent). The only thing I've loved recently is Dr. Stone which oddly enough I blind bought for $4.99.

I really like Demon Slayer. I like Tanjiro as a protag, but no. Ep 19 was a very well animated episode, but overall it doesn't come close to reaching the highs of some other series.

Attack on Titan's episodes like Hero and Assault are at the top for me.

Honestly, no. The movie is very visually strong, but you will be completely lost. It assumes you've seen the entire show, and explains close to nothing.

Watch the show, than the movie. It will mean 100x more, especially the ending

10-4

I didn't realize the Dr. Stone Season 2 pass was on iTunes, so that will occupy me anyway.

The thing about Demon Slayer TV series, it really distributed its budget quite nicely.
I was quite surprised at the quality of animation from beginning to the end. Most of the CG treatment came out to be quite well thought out, only few scenes really bothered me.

It's been a while since I finished the manga - but I'm looking forward to continue on Tanjiro's journey on future animated series.
As much as I liked the manga - and normally I think manga versions are better in many cases... (especially when the original storyline is still ongoing) - I think in this case Anime version really does add something extra, actually superior to the original material. Love the fact that it rarely dropped the pace too. I hope they'll keep that quick pace to the end - as the story already concluded.

I was personally more impressed with episode 133 of Naruto. Shame the whole show can't look that good.
My problem with Demon Slayer is that Tanjiro always miraculously had the power he needed to defeat whoever whenever. He did the training at the start of the shoe but then randomly gets these new powers after said training.

It was the first and only episode of the show that actually got me excited, but overall I don't understand how much crazy hype and love the show is getting. It's not bad, but in my opinion it falls into the lot of the same tropes and it really doesn't explain a lot of the things that are happening so it just kind of makes me frustrated. When I am more sober I will try expanding on these thoughts.

Frame of reference: Aside from some of the cringey fan service I thought the anime adaptation of Akame Ga Kill is better.

I haven't yet seen Mugen Train since I wanted to watch some other stuff before revisiting, but I'm genuinely excited since I find the set piece interesting and hope there's more...acceleration...to things to rope me in.

Also the poll seems to be broken.

I'm at episode 10, for now the only flaw would be having the angry dude at the exam having the same VA of the absolute shithead bakugo from hero academia.

What a great anime.

I haven’t got to Episode 19 yet, so I’ll not say for sure, but I’ve seen A LOT of anime over my lifetime and I can’t see it topping some of the heights of other series out there. There’s just too many to even count. But I will reserve my judgment until I’ve seen Episode 19, however I don’t see it changing my opinion on the matter.

Gorgeously animated. A bit more visceral than I expected, so that's fun.

I was almost in until "You don't think these webs are at full strength, do you?"
Seriously? Anime hasn't dropped the trope of bad guys rhetorically asking the protagnost if they naively thought they were using their "full power?"
How about instead of that line, you use some of that gorgeous animation to just show the webs growing in thickness or growing small little thorns. Show don't tell.
And that's only if you insist on putting your characters in positions where they are constantly handicapping themselves in a battle of life & death for no apparent reason.

I'm not seeing what makes it the greatest anything here.

Some of the animation is nice, but it looks to be hitting all the conventional shonen anime points.
It's nothing I haven't already seen in a dozen other shonen anime.

The show has incredibly annoying sidekicks and bog-standard shounen plotting and fights. The animation is good but overall I wasn't impressed. Will give the movie a chance though.

I felt the same way about the series but loved the shit out of the movie.
Funny thing is is that the movie wouldn't be as enjoyable without watching the series first.

I mean....don't take me wrong, it's fun an I enjoyed it.
But Demon Slayer is still cookie cutter shonen with some truly terrible sidekicks. Elevated by Ufotable and their top tier animation and production values.

I thought the fight was great. More due to the awesome visuals from Ufotable than anything related to the characters though.
I'd also hardly call Kyojuro a sidekick, he is more of a side character. Basically just shows up for the one movie, doesn't really interact too much with Tanjiro and then dies

The actual sidekicks (so far) are these 2:

And they absolutely suck. You need to sit through terrible scene after terrible scene with them to get to the good bits.

Pretty much exactly what I'd say. A decent enough show, but OP is really overselling it.

If you read the comic the pig guy is fantastic

He sacrifices alot to defeat Muzan

Show is great, you can read my reasons in another thread already. I'll post it in the spoiler, as I think the show is much deeper than people give it credit for:

Demon Slayer is all about grand emotions.
The show appeals to our most basic sense of justice, to fight evil despite our own fears in order to protect those we love.

The first episode starts off strong with some major drama setting things in motion. Even if it is a bit cliché, the resulting dynamic between brother and sister is very interesting. The main protagonist may be a bit one-dimensional, but the support cast is great and the Demon Slyer Corps is full of interesting characters, especially Kagaya and Rengoku. The chilling villain is a well-motivated and frightfully force of evil. The action and animation are also top notch, resulting in a good show that doesn't have too many flaws.

Demon Slayer espouses values like courage, friendship, family and acceptance, which is not only demonstrated in Tanjiro's relationship with his sister, but also Nezuko's reluctant acceptance by the Slayer Corps. The show goes to great lengths at humanizing its antagonists by showing that not all demons are evil and that you shouldn't judge a character merely by his external identity. After all, what counts is a person's character and their actions.

Gentle Tamayo for example is a skilled doctor that has saved many human lives, despite being a demon. The head of the spider family, Rui, just wants to have the family that he never had and does everything to keep his group together to the point of harming others. Even if Rui is evil, his zealotry is relatable and very human. So far, most demons seem to have turned evil because they are lacking or missing something that is very human, like Kyogai who just wanted to be recognized for something.

In many ways, Demon Slayer is the polar opposite of what is being shown in today's American entertainment. The protagonist has to work hard for his skills, to the point of almost breaking himself. Family bonds and friendship are valued above all. Most importantly, identity is deconstructed and plays a secondary role to a character's actions and principles.

Demon Slayer is proof that its core message and principles are what the American audience still craves. I love the show as many of its themes remind me of early Dragon Ball, where showing forgiveness and acceptance by turning your enemies into friends are important central aspects.

But it's really not the greatest. When it comes to Shonen, I think HxH has the most adult themes, but that only goes for the chimera arc.

Episode 19 was a nice episode but not the best episode of all time. As the poster above put... MHA has quite a few episodes that are better than ep19 of demon slayer.

Really enjoyed Demon Slayer. Can't wait for s2. Watched so many shows but I don't recall Demon Slayer having anything that got me going even top 10 wise.
