Im playing through FF7 remake and i almost fell asleep , im 5 or 6 hours in and almost half of them are slow walking sessions and squeezing through cracks

There was a section when i was escorting aerith back home from the church , it was one of the most painful section in any game , then we go gather some flowers to take to the orphanage and while shes inside i have to walk around until shes done , fuck this

is rebirth the same ?
 
Remake is the linear corridor driven intro, but you're past the worst part of the game now so I'd say keep going for now.
Rebirth goes the more open world route, its a MUCH better game by far.
 
No. It got way more filler and bloat.
But if it's tiring you, it can be ignores. Not sure if you will end up underleveled
 
Rebirth is a much better game in all areas and a ton of the side stuff you can simply ignore. Rebirth is worth getting through remake for

If you aren't liking Remake from that stuff you mentioned I doubt Rebirth will be any better for you. What you are doing is all world\character building and your not enjoying it. To me FF7 REmake\Rebirth is all about the characters and world. I would just bail.
 
Rebirth zones are very checklist based.

I love the game and it's my GOTY for the year but it has terrible pacing, especially if you want to do the whole area before moving on.
 
Rebirth significantly eclipses Remake in every single way. It feels like a full-blown RPG. Remake feels extremely limited in comparison.
 
Rebirth's sidequests are for the most part much more enjoyable than Remake.

Partly because each sidequest is accompanied by a different party member and also because the world design is much more interesting with unique things to discover, compared to Remake. Some of the side stories are also more meaningful to the world or character building compared to part 1.

You can also just ignore it all and focus on the main narrative.

Rebirth has better side quest design and some carry over into later chapters. Rebirth is generally better and offers far more freedom and ways of traversal. Get ready for tons of forced minigames though.

i enjoy world building but cmon instead of me walking with aerith for 20 min and talking about useless stuff just add a quick cutscene how we go to the house or at least let me fucking run not slow walk the entire time
 
Rebirth is way better in almost every way (except maybe the main plot).
It has way more open areas that you can move through freely and even during the more linear story sequences the amount of forced walking and squeezing is way lower (though it still shows up from time to time).
Part 1 felt like they struggled to get it running on ps4 and so they divided the game into a bunch of small interconnected areas, sort of like a PSP game except instead of a loading screen in between the areas you get forced walking sequence.

The side content is also way better. The sidequests are fun, a lot of them incorporate unique gimmicks, mechanics and minigames, and you occasionally fight unique enemies and bosses too. Narratively most of them aren't particularly deep (think more like sidequests in the Yakuza games than The Witcher) but at least you get some fun bonus conversations between the party, which I enjoyed.

The world design is indeed very Ubisoft heavy, with each areas basically having a samey checklist of things you can do (but don't have to). I do however think they executed it a bit better because at least most of the checklist stuff ultimately leads to something worthwhile like a Summon fight, an optional boss battle or unique materia. The fact the combat is way more fun than anythin Ubisoft has ever done obviously also helps.

IDK personally I loved Rebirth. And I'm saying it as someone who mas pretty mixed on Remake Part 1 and thought FFXVI was straight up mediocre.

you can feel the limitations of Remake, good as it is, to this day. I absolutely loved it and still do, but it's pretty much a hallway for the most part.

Rebirth's world is a huge, inviting, content-rich slab of game which rewards investigation and player agency in ways even the original FF7 did not.

It's certainly checklist-y, but it's varied enough to keep you playing. And I was surprised by how dense it is, especially in the later worlds. There are points where you really have to stop and think to yourself 'how the FUCK do I get over there?', due to some very video game-ass video game design. It almost feels 16/32-bit era at times. It's fantastic.
 
I'd say rebirth is much better at both but I already liked remake and was not at all bothered by hanging out with Aerith getting flowers for a few minutes so I might not be the guy to ask.
 
Rebirth has better side quests but overall has way more filler than remake. I also dropped it at 1 or 2 points because it was so tedious.
 
All these takes, jeeze. Rebirth has a lot more sidequests, but they are almost all more entertaining and worthwhile than Remake's. And the best part is you really don't need to do almost any of them.

I have yet to play Rebirth - will play on PC - but my worst section in Remake is the entire Wall Market segment. However, once Corneo drops Cloud, Aerith and Tifa into the sewers, the game gets amazing.

Basically, almost all of my favorite moments in Remake are the parts where the party is Cloud, Barret and Tifa. Everything just clicks when it's those three.

I felt the same when playing FF7 Remake on PS4, dropped it after 10 hours. Tried again on PC, dropped it after 10 hours. Picked it up again, just a few weeks ago, continuing from my PS4 save file on the PS5.

I've now made it to chapter 10, deep in some sewers. And finally, the main characters are starting to click with me, I'm feeling invested in the story, the mission, etc. Just don't do any side quests is what I would suggest.

Keep in mind that this remake is based on 30 year old 90s RPG and that it includes some weird scenes and pacing, because it wants to stick to the original.

Yeah, game really begins to shine at the last third of the story mode.
 
Rebirth is total TRASH of a game. I really enjoyed the REmake alot, mostly for nostalgia, but also it was quite polished. The copy-paste hub (yeah, it's a lifeless hub) dressed as open world, is one of the worst part of the game. It looks awful and feels awful. It's just a mini-game simulator with over the top fighting. Won't even bother with the third instalment. SKIP it and play anything else. It's a laughable game with cringe dialogue and ugly ass graphics.
 
Compared to Remake? Yes.

Compared to Xenoblade? No.

I think it's primarily the lack of self-discovery. You'll find yourself in each zone just going through a checklist of things to do instead of finding it on your own. Becomes tedious. I'd rather find stuff out in the world by chance.

Everything I feel is laid out for you and no real postgame that takes place in the world itself. No finding summons in the world, no optional dungeons. Most relegated to Chadley Challenges and his AI girlfriend.

FFVIIR Part 3 has a lot to improve on when it comes to sidecontent.

i think Rebirth is way worst, Remake at least is a linear game , that way you dont lose too much time doing shit content, now Rebirth ll waste your time on Ubisoft level of exploration and awful content throughout the game

Agree the open world is very bad. Its the same squares they use just with different biomes. Its clunky to navigate as you auto jump and have to follow required paths to get somewhere. The markers on the map are PS3 era Ubisoft and just placed hap hazardly. And towers to show more of the map, come on. Towers. This is 2007? There is no exploration, should you expect it. Its very artificial without any sense of travel. Each map is blocked off which is true to the original, but Rebirth has no hidden content. You won't find a hidden materia, weapon, cave or summon in the wild. In the original you can side track to Fort Condor, and later Gongaga (where you can activate an optional boss fight and find Titan as well), you can also completely skip those. There is nothing like it in Rebirth. You won't chase enemies in the open for their enemy skills. All of this is reduced to Chadley's VR simulator.

I enjoyed the combat though. But I 100% prefer a HD-2D remake over this, which would've been the full package too.

Yes. And it sucks ass. I loved it in the original (as well as the overall context and reward of FC), and I loved it in Intermission even. In OG you could fail it, and just attack the boss yourselves, who was very weak.

But in Rebirth they added a timer. Its just very tedious and requires a specific strategy to beat. All they had to do is copy paste it from Intermission.

And there is yet another, much worse, RTS game in Rebirth too. On top of another 100 ish minigames. Its ridiculous. And you are required to do a good few of them, at least the tutorial stage.

No. It feels like it's taken the worst of Ubisoft open world, and a lot of the traversal and the way they handle the chocobos is mostly just frustrating. There's one decent on later in the game. I'm battling through but it only occasionally rises to the level of enjoyment, very rarely exciting, quests are mostly forgettable, sometimes annoying.

Great graphics and the combat mechanics aren't bad.
 
For me there are two issues with Rebirth. The inconsistency with graphics first of all, a second, the forced mini games. I really hope that modders tackle both issues on pc, then we will have a great and fantastic game

I went back to Remake over Christmas. I'm on chapter 16 now, just did the long staircase walk today lol great stuff
Still don't like the gameplay, plays like mid third person action game. But I like the story and fleshed out characters a lot and the general design and nostalgia.

Fun fact - you can choose the elevator instead of the stairs and get completely different cutscenes.

I love its combat system, it's my favorite out of every FF game I ever played.

When taking the stairs, I like how the run goes slower and slower and at the end it's a slow heavy walk and music gets twisted. The devs has clearly had fun on this lol

The combat is functional at best imo, I just keep mashing and going between strong and fast attacks with some spells here and there. Besides the hell house boss there has been almost no strategy needed in comparison to the original.

I understand that segments like picking flowers up for Aerith doesn't do anything story wise and can be considered pointless but in reality it's way more important. It's to build the characters and develop their relationships.

It's to present you Aerith as this sweet person with a pure heart. They want you to be charmed by her and care for her so future events will have a bigger impact on you. Cloud doesn't give a fuck about picking up flowers. It's all part of presenting him as this badass, too cool for this shit guy! If a player doesn't care for this game's characters then yeah there will be segments where it will feel like a slog to play but Remake is just this sort of game that wants to take an extra bit of time to build its world...it is a remake of the most popular RPG ever after all, wouldn't want them to rush things now, would we?

Rebirth is just a celebration of everything that was great in the OG turned up to 11 and we are not even done yet.

I do agree that the segments where we are force to walk slowly by squeezing through narrow passages is the plague.

I also love how the scene depicts the stamina of all three characters.

Barret: Out of breath within a few floors because he's heavy and not a runner.

Cloud: Does his best, but after a few floors he's also seeing stars.

Tifa: Experienced athlete and runner, lightest on her feet, is way ahead of them and takes the longest to lose her breath, though by the end she's also depleted.
 
I guess OP just doesn't "get it".

You're not just walking Aerith home from a church, you're acting as a bodyguard to a beautiful young girl (a stranger to you) who is being pursued by a mad scientist. The juxtaposition between Clouds cold demeanour and her warmth is interesting. The dialogue and acting are some of the best of last gen.

The materia system and gameplay are also a godsend.

Quest design is horrible, the exploration of the open world is a joke, every single area in the game presents you with the EXACT same 5-6 tedious activities. The game is filled with stupid filler between major story plot points. I encourage you just watch the story online somewhere. Save your money and your time.
