Is GAF too strict?

Not a fan of blame space, other than his avatar. I was curious because everyone in this thread

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=489591

is running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to figure whether they are permanent or not. I figured I'd ask here since this seems like the place to ask mods stuff.

And G-Fex I already beat you pretty bad before, just like I did Beef. Check the tape.

What a fluke. You'll never win Panda.

Strict... well more inconsistent.

I was banned for posting a poster from the super hit movie "Gayniggers from Outer Space" in a funny pic thread.

Rewind a couple of weeks earlier I posted the same pic while even some mods laughed at it.

But, of course inconsistents will always be when mods isn't robots which is a good thing.

You have a unique enough username, just put it in the search field and posts that quoted you or mentioned you will pop up. Be sure to select posts to for show results as.

This is what I do. I don't subscribe to every topic I post in, so if I want to see if anyone quoted me in anything, I search for my name to find those posts.

Thx again! I was wondering how long it usually takes to become a full member (upgrade from junior)? In the faq thread it says it automatic so after preset time period?

what on earth are you talking about...
This is what I was talking about you distorted my views and because you are an administrator I am not allowed to speak out about it without you questioning it when I made the point.

Edit: He beat me to most of it.

Well it is okay to insult someone's intellect, stereotype, and insult people outside of a few rightfully protected boundaries.
An example would be insulting the appearance of some, or the height. Others include age based insults.
Calling someone short isn't an insult. I'm short. Hi. Unless someone is, like, "You know your opinion about open-world gameplay versus linear narratives? I can't hear you from up here, ya worthless midget!!!"...

I never said it was... I literally never made that claim. This is what happens when people go against the status quo of what should be condemned, you distorted my opinion and then talked down to me based on my distorted opinion throughout your post.
Its fine by me that I have to put up with people mocking me, distorting my post, treating me like crap on this forum, because I know I am not alone, and because I put up with being the outcast/loser outside of here as well just like others.

...
Let's make it fully clear; someone disagreeing with you, even forcefully, is not an insult. All debates are going to end up being intellectual meritocracies. People who make poor arguments are going to be refuted. You have to realize that when you make an argument (that something is or is not a certain way), your position precludes the position of others. If they disagree, they have the right to tell you. If they feel your argument is not supported by facts, they have the right to tell you. If they feel your position is at odds with history or science or it's impractical, they have the right to tell you. You are not entitled to people agreeing with you...
Again I have never claimed any of this in my post, I said nothing close to this so I may only assume you are using distortion and trickery to both ridicule me and my points that I did make.

...But if you feel like a user is insulting you or anyone else, please contact a moderator. It's possible you're right and we missed the post. It's possible that the post is a mixed bag and we might opt to delete the post or warn the user or warn the thread rather than ban. It's also possible the moderator doesn't agree with your assessment at all.
Except why are certain users like me and others obligated to waltz on egg shells while when others ridicule, mock, or demean us that we have to make a huge deal out of the problem to get it recognised if that. Some users are given passive moderation while others are given active moderation by the staff.

When you feel that somebody hasn't understood you, it's better to attempt to clarify your position before throwing out accusations of malice.

Except on page 36 he replied to the same explanation I just gave in essence with exclaiming what was I talking about when I showed that he inserted ideas I did not talk about in my posts and constructed false arguments with my post.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=486628&page=36

Because of this and that I did not have anything about the inserted points therefore it is not a stretch to claim it was done on purpose.

Wonder there should be a separate thread for asking why user is banned. Like what happened to Holy Wars.

It'd be nice to be able to find out how long certain posters are gone for. I'm a little worried about Ashes1396, he's been out for over a month now.

I miss the good old days of posters being banned for not reading the first post.

There have been several threads here lately where it's evident nobody reads the first post, but they jump at the opportunity to popular opinion dogpile something absolutely wrong in the thread.

Wasn't long ago that not reading the first post = ban.

As for transparency with bans - we do need transparency with the cutesy little messages moderators leave for the banned. Somebody left a "You should know better" in one of my recent bans. Know better? I didn't know cosplay was an unspoken protected class on neogaf.

Although I suspect that ban had more to do with the neogaf Star Chamber than cosplay related comments.

Just state the facts of the ban, leave the pithy remarks out of it and be a neutral enforcer of the TOS here.

Do we have a list of banned sites? Saw a dude get banned for posting news from a site I never knew was banned...

I don't want to make the same mistake...

I don't want to make the same mistake...

If a site is banned, the url will appear in asterisks. You can see this with sites like The Daily Mail or Tinypic. I honestly do not know all the banned sites, but you oughtn't have a problem avoiding that mistake because you are given explicit warning.

I didn't know about the asterisks, thanks for the heads up Mumei!

A good tip is to use this pattern in the search box.

Code:
"[quote=hateradio"

Obviously, you'd use your user name instead.

That way it looks through posts and tries to match a quote with your name.

I wanna know about the "No port begging" rule.

On other forums I've been to, someone once in a while says something like "Man that game is really cool, but I just wish it was on X platform" and the rest of the thread moves on. It seems innocuous in every circumstance that I can remember. Is this really a problem on GAF? Did something happen in the past? Like, does a thread suddenly plunge into chaos as soon as someone does this? I'm trying to wrap my head around why this is ban-able.

Note: I'm not saying it's a strict rule or anything yet...And even if I did think it was strict, I don't own the site, and I'd still personally think that posts on GAF are much less rage inducing than posts on other game related sites. Side note: I also find it astonishing that the community and off topic sections actually function without being completely ruined by trolls.

I should find you the Epic Mickey thread.

That's a really good solution for the people with names that are common words.

You guys don't understand. They're just trying to break us down. Push us down. STOP PROGRESS.

Oh no no no no no no. They cannnt. They won't.

FOLLOW THE MONEY.

I wa spretty devastated a couple of day ago when I made a thread and it got locked really quickly. I'd say yes op. board art shouldn't be silenced, meaningful board art. No matter how many blahs are in the title

Too strict? Pretty much the only two rules on GAF are don't be an asshole and don't post scans and if you didn't know the rule of the scans and remove it in time nothing happens to you
