It sure would be nice if gaf could have a rap sheet directed to the infringing post.
It would make it easier for us to not make the same mistakes if we just knew what it was :\

You did something stupid, you deserve it. =)

Do you guys ever "research" into bans? Like say someone said something, then later on appologized or backpeddled do you take that into account? Or do you just wildly slam the banhammer around?Squiddy, I feel like I am having deja vu with you thinking Wario64 was banned when he wasn't.
*shrugs*
We can have it now!
Bans are not instigated. I think the simplest way to put it is: Correlation does not imply causation.
If someone posts something dumb, and several posters say that they'll enjoy that person being banned, it might increase the likelihood of a moderator catching the post, but it is unrelated to the decision itself. We do not ban on popular vote, because someone said something unpopular, because of ban cheering, or by personal request (e.g. If someone PMs me or sends me a message on IRC or AIM). If you've been misunderstood, just clarify. As other posters have said - and I can attest to in my own experience - legitimate misunderstandings happen and it is easy to get people off your case by admitting an error or clarifying a misunderstanding or simply apologizing for the offense and dropping it. It's not difficult, really. And while it's not a guarantee, I can say that I have been ready to ban someone when they did one of those things and changed my mind because of it. There's a lot to be said for ending something graciously.
Just close your eyes and wait, no use talking about it now.But... I said that it's not victim blaming...
Can't you tell if its perma when there avatars are removed?

Also I feel like for some mods you're likely to get banned if you say something they disagree with rather than everyone else disagreeing with. That would be an example of moderators needing to take a step back and just "keep the discussion flowing" I suppose.

So I guess I survived Bish 2012 shirts will be going into production soon?
No that's just a GAF myth/bugCan't you tell if its perma when there avatars are removed?

GAF has myths... Amazing.No that's just a GAF myth/bug
Okay, I wasn't sure. From what's been said by many mods themselves, all bans are discussed between the mods before they happen (obvious bans aside). The only one who has absolute free-reign for bans is EviLore, since he owns the place.
GAF has myths... Amazing.
Without knowing the exact moderation practices (group modding), how can you say this for sure? Just because it doesn't openly influence you, doesn't mean it doesn't subconsciously influence your decision. Seeing 5 posters call for a ban might certainly help that tiny little nagging feeling in the back of your head whether it's just quite over the line or not.
