Banned
So someone on GAF seriously insulted another member with the word "cis" and "breeder?"
Oh shit, since when did Tumblr become a part of NeoGAF?
He asked for a link, I gave him one. I'll give you a gaf link if you want.

I am totally, 100% okay with banning all "I have no idea who this person is/what this thread is about" posts, barring situations where the actual thread subject is extremely hard to parse, which does happen.
You have the internet at your finger tips! You can google names and acronyms or use some goddamn deductive reasoning so easily and faster than if you just asked.
Nothing annoys me more than the "Who is this?" posts.
I really would love to see those banned.
Stop being such a cis.

Personally I like them. They help to balance out the insane amount of focus on C-list celebrity news in the |OT|.

Here, since apparently you didn't understand without me directly stating it: Can you give me an example of a NeoGAF poster seriously (not jokingly!) insulting another member on the basis of them being cis/straight?
Mumei talked about the use of breeder in posts on neogaf. There were links to rather insulting uses. On mobile so I can't link you.So someone on GAF seriously insulted another member with the word "cis" and "breeder?"
Although, sometimes it is better hearing from people who have a intimate understanding of the person the thread is about. I could, say, google someone a thread is about and get a vast ocean of information about that person which wouldn't tell me much. But having someone explain who the person is in the context of the thread is very enlightening.
I feel this is most appropriate in certain Pop-GAF threads where they'll just post a person, album title, and a bunch of gifs with a song list.
Is this album highly anticipated? Are they completely unknown?
What I'm saying is I don't like OPs that don't include any contextual information.
Of course, then I don't usually post in those threads.
I don't understand how anyone thinks it's okay to qualify whether someone's grievances are more valid than someone else's because of a supposed gap in power or social status. It seems like it's not okay to generalize groups of people unless they're white and male.
Explain how it works for me. Since I'm a man and Jewish I'm only allowed to get offended by insults related to being a Jew, but not anything about being a man or looking white (even though I'm not)?I have to say, I really appreciate your posts. I feel like they do a much better job demonstrating how privilege works than I could explain it.
Speaking of better moderation, I'd think it be nice if there was a "post adviser" who let you clean up your posts, kinda like....

And -COOLIO-:
In which case, I'd be fine with the people openly insulting other posters being given a temp ban.
Though I wonder. Does Clark actually find "stop being such a cis" offensive, or is he just mad that he can't openly insult transsexual people?

i totally agree with barring all personal insults from one to another on gaf but if someone posts a thread about... lets say... someone who starts an apartment fire but doesn't pull the fire alarm on the way out because he doesn't want to waste time. he endangered others for his own selfish reasons and i wouldn't mind if posters said he was being a 'lil bitch'.
though you're post earlier stressed context and that not all instances of the use of the word are bannable, and since i would only use it in essentially the lightest contexts available we probably agree on its usage. i entered this thread thinking it was completely banned regardless of context. (which still wouldnt ruin ma day, but would be odd none the less)
At this point, considering the recent topics / bans... yes, I'd say GAF is too strict.

This thread is 119 pages. I think that says quite a lot.

It has nothing to do with showing reverence for celebrities. It's just flatout pointless and unfunny shit posting.
It's like they want to be seen as too cool because they don't know, so odd.
Maybe so but I guess it shows that a lot of posters don't really respect all the mindless celebrity news and feel that is a way to show it.

50ppp? You people make me sick.
50 ppp? Man, I thought I knew you [on an internet video games forum].
Nobody really knows what it's like to be discriminated against unless they're in that group. Of course, the inverse applies as well. Can black men or women say they know what it's like to be in a group that is thought of as being the instigators of some of the most atrocious injustices against humanity, a group that is thought of having an unfair advantage over other people?I don't think that this is always a simple thing to address. I agree that if an environment is promoting tolerance and respect towards everyone, then it should ideally apply towards everyone. However, what gets challenged is whether or not perspective is being properly understood. Again, I think it's silly to suggest that a white man cannot be discriminated against on account of being a white male. However, what does get challenged often is when these experiences are offered in a dismissive fashion to suggest that we all have problems.
I don't think it's fair to suggest that I never have the right to be offended for prejudicial treatment. However, I do think it's disingenuous for me to think -- taking cumulative lifetime experiences into account -- that I truly understand what black people must feel like, or what women must feel like, or what gay people must feel like when they are discriminated against.

If you want to form a collective of like minded individuals, great, but I am not going to be brow beat or bullied into something I am not in agreement with. We all can't live in a fucking fantasy world can we?
I think 90% of the time people know full well who it is. They just want to take a jab at the person and asking why we should care.I am totally, 100% okay with banning all "I have no idea who this person is/what this thread is about" posts, barring situations where the actual thread subject is extremely hard to parse, which does happen.

Man, I thought we were gonna be bros.....
It's okay, you can fix it! It won't even require you doing things The Hard Way, i.e. GAF GOLD.
Click on your name in the top-right, and go to Edit Options. Scroll down until you see an area titled Thread Display Options. Inside is a drop-down box giving you three choices: Use Forum Settings, Show 50 Posts Per Page, and Show Superior 100 Posts Per Page. Select the option you know is true in your heart, then scroll to the bottom and click "Save Changes".

I just lost so much fucking cred : (
You're losing steam junior, take a break.
I am losing so many friends right now dude, I can do better I swear.
Yes, because we have only Devo's unsupported word to suggest that women face marginalization and violence.
I think you're right about Jew, but I'm also pretty sure if you tried to use it as a derogatory term for anything, even a video game boss as the example was originally in this discussion, you would get banned pretty quickly. So good job, you're covered.
same here and i just cant think of a good alternative.
'sissy' is a soft, friendly alternative that you would call your SO if they didnt want to get in the pool if it were too cold.
'pussy' is a man to man bro thing that means your too chicken for whatever.
'lil bitch' is what you call people who cop out of the harder way of doing things for selfish reasons.
'dick/bitch' are sex based variations of 'asshole'
Wikipedia said:Sissy (derived from sister;[citation needed] also sissy baby, sissy boy, etc.) is a pejorative term for a boy or man who violates or does not meet the traditional male gender role. Generally, sissy implies a lack of courage and stoicism, which are thought important to the male role. A man might also be considered a sissy for being interested in traditional feminine hobbies or employment (e.g., being fond of fashion), displaying effeminate behavior (e.g., saying "mua mua" before hanging up the phone or using creams), being unathletic, or being homosexual.
Sissy is, approximately, the male converse of tomboy (a girl with masculine traits or interests), but has none of the latter's positive connotations.
That's funny, considering current scientific research suggests that your view is the fantasy one.
