Is it possible for Dogs to be trained to use a sand box to litter in like a cat?

Or are dogs just too dumb to figure it out?

I've never had a dog but if this is a thing I may get one

you do know dogs have to go outside, right?

there's a reason why you see people walking dogs a lot more than cats. dogs have a shit load of energy and they need to burn it. so if you're gonna be keeping a dog inside and not letting it go out for a walk then you don't deserve to own a dog. it'd be nothing but pure cruelty having a dog locked up in a house.

That's something that used to piss me off in Barcelona. So many people with dogs, sometimes huge ones. The dogs would be cooped up all day on their own, often in tiny apartments with no garden. Pure cruelty.

A dude I worked with was an ex-cage fighter and kept talking about getting one. Told him it was cruel. He ended up getting some tiny little rat thing that he'd walk at night to pick up girls. Judging by his stories, that was one clever investment. Some huge muscly dude and a tiny dog, women couldn't resist stopping to chat to him. Dude had serious game.

Not too sure how well that would work inside. Depending on the size of the dog it's probably a terrible idea.

I know of people making areas in the yard where it's just gravel so the dog doesn't fuck up the lawn. Take a bit of training obviously.

If you can get it to go in your garden rather than have accidents in the house in the first few months you are doing well.

After that you will be sick of stepping dog shit in your garden (unless you follow them around there is always a lurker in the grass), and you will want it to poo on walks outside where it is easier to pick up.

I tried using bins etc, but you just end up with bins full of bags of dogshit to get rid of unless you religiously clear the waste and with two weeks between refuse collections around here its not something I recommend.

Why would you want your dog shitting and pissing in your house?

Dogs are like way smarter than cats and yes they could be trained, but dogs instinctively don't want to eat and shit where they live/eat/sleep so you would need a clear separate area. Cats like litter because of their instincts to piss in dirt/sand.

Agree with above, do not get a dog if you can't even get out a few times a day.

of course you can.

Yep. I had one of these when we used to live in an apartment. My dog (about the size of that one in the picture) would use it if she needed to go in the middle of the night, but typically held it for walks throughout the day. Good to have as back up for sure if you don't have a yard.

Yeah, definitely don't keep the pee pad near the food if you want your dog to use it.

Exactly, obviously not a full time solution, just for the evenings

Yes but as a cat and dog owner litter boxes are the most disgusting things on planet earth. I will never own another cat.

I’d rather shuvel poop out a tray than pick a steaming hot turd up in my hand with a plastic bag and walk with it until I find a bin

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
They can, but it's not a good idea. Dogs eat poop, they don't care if it's covered in litter. If you don't want your dog eating clumping or desiccating agents, you don't want them pooping in litter.

I tend to agree with your sentiment in a general sense, but the "huge" dogs actually tend to be the ones who don't need to be walked often. They are big and lazy breeds.

Why would you want a dog to use a litter tray? Because you can't be arsed to walk it? If so, then don't get a dog.

Who wants to live with dog shit in their home. Kitty shit is nasty enough. Why would you not just walk him/her?

If you ever need to know what lowlife dumbass creatures dogs are, these fuckwits will happily eat their own shit, which countless disgusted and bewildered owners can attest to. I have never heard of a cat eating its own shit.

I rest my case your honor.

A dog has no sense of disgust and the concept does not exist to it.

they love strong smells and will often eat their own shit and sick.

take it outside and if it shits pick that shit up and throw it in the dog shit bins.

I wouldn't own a cat if I couldn't feed it a raw diet. On raw though their poop doesn't smell, as nature intended.

When I was in school, had an exam coming up and I was screwed. So I ate my cornflakes and forced myself to vomit to show I was ill.

Called my Mother, she didn't believe me and knew I was trying to get out of going in.

Told her to look in the kitchen at the tiles on the floor, bloody dog had eaten it.

I went to school that day. Failed the exam, never trusted the doggo again.
