Is it worth buying Dragon Quest XI S if I have the original?

So I bought Dragon Quest XI for PS4 back during release. I only put about maybe 15 to 20 hours into it then stopped.

My PS4 broke and by the time I got another, I just kinda bounced off if it.

But with the release of 3 soon and my brand new tv and sound system, I wanna give it another chance after 7 years lol.

But is it worth it to pay an extra $60 bucks (Canadian) for the S version? Are the extra features that much better? Or should I just stick to the original?

Thanks guys.

I think so. They added quite a bit of story to it. Plus you get the pretty awesome 2D mode and some other versions from the 3DS version, which was never released here.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
The S version has the 2D mode and some other story bits, but kind of worse graphics (it's a port of the Switch version).

I personally wouldn't pay $60 for it. Wait for a sale. Black Friday is upon us soon.

You can romance Jade. Worth it.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Yeah, for the music and the 2D mode and other things. There are some graphical downgrades but you'll get over those fairly quick.

It has gone for like $20-25. Physical was pretty cheap as well at one point if looking on console with a drive.

I would try to find a cheap key on Steam for it. That is what I did.

I also got the S version on the PS4.

I was kind of annoyed when they released that second version. It is like the same crap that Atlus does with it's games. They always release a better final version.

I have both and S is better. I'd say its worth it defo.

Edit: Even better if you get the PC version and mod out the graphical downgrades, and the music

As someone who played 80 hours of the PS4 version then tried again with the "definitive version", I don't suggest it. It is literally the Switch version ported over to other platforms. Noticable graphical downgrades. Who cares about "extra content", as the game is too long anyway. If you already own the original version, either play that or play something else.

Save your money and time for DQ3 if that is what you want to play. I don't see how the games are related or why it gave you the urge to pay $60 for an inferior version of a game you already own.

Simple answer: no.
If you want romances, then ok I guess but you can aways watch them on youtube. This version is a straight up port of the Switch version.

There's no noticeable downgrades if you don't look for them. I'd definitely invest 80-100 hours in the version featuring all the content than the version featuring less content but prettier graphics.

The game is charming as hell for the characters, writing, and story. The shadows coming off the trees don't do that much for me.

S version adds too many things to even list.

Hell, I'm not even sure the non-S version includes the full ending (last 20 hours in New Game+)? If that's the case, it's literally a no-brainer.

Maybe wait for a sale (Black Friday is around the corner) but overall I'd say it's worth the upgrade.
It's true the visuals take a bit of a hit, but it makes up for it with a lot of quality of life improvements and a vastly superior soundtrack (that added content wasn't that good IMO, but a lot of people like it).
Also if you are playing on console I think it's the only version that's 60fps, the original release is locked to 30.

This game to me was so freaking weird.

Like I get going into the story and bam event. Then another. And bam game is over big bad is dead.

Felt like I was missing something or it skipped.

Horse caller, OST, and portable forge make it worth it. You can mod the graphics in the PC version to get closer to the original but I didn’t even bother.

Definitely don’t pay $60 for it tho.
