Is it worth it to get into the Cosmere? Mistborn or Stormlight Archives

I really enjoy Brandon Sanderson's youtube channel. I've tried picking up one of his books before, but was bored a few pages, but I really want to give it a chance. Should I start with Mistborn or Stormlight though?

I really liked the Mistborn, trilogy, I'd start there. There's a sequel tetralogy that takes place hundreds of years after the first trilogy but you don't need to read that.

He is a bit sterile for me but EXTREMELY consistent in his output, so at least you know what you are getting. If anything, he is TOO logical and precise, you can almost see the math at work with his characters.

I'm kinda shocked there have been no adaptations of his work. Then again, he is RICH AS FUCK so he can be very picky.

I used to be obsessed with Sanderson. He's a really nice and cool guy. I've had a couple of interactions with him online and he's always been pleasant. His books are actually really good. The Way of Kings is incredible. I got burned out on the fantasy genre about 8 or 9 years ago, so I stopped reading him. I would say if you are a fan of fantasy you will really like him. He's not GRRM, so don't expect swearing or sex in any of his books, but his magic systems and world building are really good. He's super prolific too, so you'll always have something to read. I would say start with the original Mistborn trilogy, or even Warbreaker which is a stand alone Cosmere novel. I don't want to spoil too much, but if you do decide to read Sanderson definitely read Warbreaker before the Stormlight Archive.

If you’re looking for something to read, sure it is fine. But keep in mind, this is junk food reading. It is dumb, easy reading, but it isn’t going to give you anything good or lasting.

Definitely Mistborn (first Trilogy)

I have read 2.5 books in Stormlight Archives and 2nd book was a god damn banger but third one being 1000 pages long I never managed to finish it. Lost interest.

i suggest Mistborn. its a little more approachable and gets to the point quicker. His magic systems have set rules so the 'plot armor' moments are baked in and have explanations. currently re-listening to Storm Light Archives so i can go into 'Wind and Truth' fresh. having a blast with it. the narrators do great work so if you have access to Audible its a great way to experience the plots with a little less time commitment. I really liked Mistborn and the sequel trilogy. the way his worlds evolve has always been a plus for me. if you follow enough of his work you start making character connections throughout the Cosmere and the over arching plot that connects most of his stories gets more interesting. kind of like the MCU but respecting the readers intelligence. Pretty sure they have sequels at this point but if you want more contained stories check out Elantris or Warbreaker.

I bit into the hype and read The Way of Kings this month. Very much enjoyed it and will definitely be reading the second. Need a couple pallet cleansers though.

His writing style is a bit pedestrian and before long you start noticing stuff like this :

Check out Dalinar's grunt count in Stormlight archive! The literary copy tics are noticeable at times, is true with Sanderson.

He's still a better writer than me on his worst day than I am in my best hyper focus uber writing day.

I ended up using the audiobooks to finish the books. Wind and Truth is my next and it's sitting on my desk looking at me...but it's such a hefty doorstopper.

He did a vr game after the way of kings. I don't remember if it was a proof of concept or what but I didn't hear about it for very long.

Read the 1st 2 stormlight books and enjoyed them. I'd have to reread them or the synopsis again but he sticks to his magical system in world. If you like the opening of stormlight you'll enjoy the series.

Cool fight between an assassin and a fully armored knight. Cool physics in his worlds
