Is Mario Kart DS bittersweet

IF you love Mario Kart, how can you not be on pins and needles for the next month? Online four player action. Some of the best tracks from the past games and 16 all new tracks on top of that. Wireless battle mode (even if not online). Single Kart multi-play.

But does all of it kind of leave a taste in your mouth of "Now why didn't Nintendo do this with MK: DD?" Of course they didn't have the ease of online like they do with the DS, nor the guaranteed NIC in every GCN, and there is definitely something to be said when a high school student can take his DS online in study hall over his school's wireless connection. But for me at least it just all reeks of what could have been on the GCN.

Oh well, only just a little over 30 days until all is right.

Meh, I guess... but it's not like there was a time limit on the experience. I'm sure I'll have as much fun with MK Rvltn as I would have with an online MK for the Cube (probably more, considering how lackluster Double Dash is).

I'd definitely buy the game if it was on GameCube, although the fact that it's only four-player and that the battle mode is not online is a bit weak. I may end up buying it if I get a DS some time, but it's no must-have handheld-game to me that sells me on a DS.

The online features of Animal Crossing are also a bit disappointing I think, perhaps Nintendo improves on this stuff in later games.

animal crossing the only disappointing thing (but absolutely necessary) is needing the friend code to travel to a town. But man... the griefing that would occur if everyone just showed up on a Gamespy-type listing..

Only four player online, but will it allow you to do full circuits with computer racers?

My friends and I STILL PLAY Double Dash to this day, weekly.

Hell, we just competed in the MK:DD tournament in NYC :)

While DD wasn't the best MK around, I am insaaanely excited about MKDS.

It is probably the best reason to own a DS right now.

Bring it GAF.
Someone set up the tournament already!! :)

4 Player Mutliplayer on consoles, split-screen, doesn't even allow you to do that, so no. No it will not.

I could care less about online, but I'm still pissed that the LAN mode was so crappy. Who ever heard of a game where you can't pick your fucking car?!! And no multiplayer GP after all these years...I still haven't heard if the DS version has that, either.

nice quick port of mario kart arcade with online for revolution should fix me up and make me forget about the sadness that was double dash.

I said it was necessary. but it still would be kind of cool to just wander into someone's town to look around.

and steal all their shit and leave graffitti calling them a pussy. :lol :lol

though I suppose that's what the inevitable AC:WW GAF thread is gonna be for. :P

I have a taste in my mouth. The taste of sweet revenge. Let me tell you all a little story about my anger.

I bought the stinking broadband adapter for the GC. That's right. I did it. I'm a sucker. Do you know why? Because I thought for sure Nintendo would take Mario Kart and Fzero online. I couldn't wait do battle mode online with Mario Kart. Or a crazy GP mode in Fzero. You can imagine the little tear that came out of my left eye when my hopes and dreams fell apart.

Now fast forward to the present. I just get a DS for my birthday. I'm so excited because FINALLY... FINALLLLLLLY I can play my dream game (Mario Kart BATTLE MODE ONLINE).
But guess fucking what?!! NINTENDO SCREWED ME YET AGAIN!

FUUUUUCK. >_<

It's not like I'm asking for much Nintendo. motherfuckers. *&^&*%^&%%^$%32!!11

I said it once and I'll say it again: Battle mode was the worst aspect of Mario Kart.

Your post should be archived or something. This is a prime example of how nintendo hater come in to existence. :D

Yeah, I haven't seriously sunk time into battle mode since Super Mario Kart. I played some in MK64, but hardly touched it in MK:DD.

^^Thats cause the only good Battle Mode stages in MKDD are unlockables: Luigis Mansion and Tilt A Kart. Pipe Plaza is okay... but what the fuck did they do to Block Fort from Mario Kart 64?

I bought two broadband adaptors. I hooked two Gamecubes up together and had 8 player MKDD on one 40" plasma tv screen on more than one occasion. I feel I've kinda tasted the potential in that respect.

Other than that, the only use for them was the PSO games. PSO rocked.

But hell yes, its kinda bittersweet. Whats stopping them doing it now? A little fanservice Nintendo? Let a Gamecube game connect to this service of yours. Make it Mario Kart or something. It'd keep the cube alive that much longer..

MK: DD is long forgotten about.

Double Dash was mediocre? Whaa?

I thoroughly enjoyed the heck out of that game...minus the soundtrack.

I agree. The race mode was stellar, especially with two players. The Battle mode tho.... That wasn't as fleshed out as it should be, and again that is what makes mario kart. It's the damn battle mode. Why haven't they figured this out yet?

ONLINE BATTLE MODE DAMN IT!!! >_<

I hope they offer SNES Mario Kart and N64 Mario Kart 64 for download on the Revolution with online play modes.

But as for Mario Kart: DD, that's the last thing on my mind right now.

Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart Arcade GP all the way.
