Actually, in 100% honesty, I was looking for a new domain for my old AW fansite, AWN. I don't run it anymore, but the staffers are all mostly younger dudes so I take it upon myself to provide hosting for the project.

The AWN guys have a redesign coming up, so I was looking at new domains, for the big 3rd revision. I tossed around like awn-evo.com, etc etc., then suddenly I was like "!" and checked advancewars3.com and saw it was open.

It all depends who you mess with.

For instance, there used to be a site called segasonic.net which got sued by SEGA America. Despite that SEGA and SONIC are Trademarked, SEGASONIC is not anymore. they ended up stopping the case and giving the owner $200US.

Now another case would by Shayne Thames, who used to own www.sonicteam.com years ago, and used it for her Sonic artwork site. Sonicteam e-mailed her asking if they could have it, but went to an old e-mail. So instead they send her a create of goodies, Sonic plushies, rare Sonic videos, and just a whole load of cool shit with a letter asking for the Domain name.

I doubt the second will happen again
