Is Okami really coming to GC?

Didn't the director behind Okami also direct Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe?

Yes, Kamiya is the best guy at capcom so there is a good chance this game will rock.

Kamiya, that's his name. Yeah, given this guys track record, I have no doubt it will rock. If true, it's nice to know they haven't abandoned GC. Capcom has come out with some of the best games this gen. I think part of the reason behind it is the freedom they are giving their directors. I don't think Kamiya has made one sequel yet. Although DMC did start as a RE game, they could have pulled the plug on it but didn't. Capcom's a breath of fresh air in a sequel driven industry.

There's a reason why he doesn't do sequels to his own games. He makes games so good that he knows will be almost impossible to top so instead of taking the blame for a not-as-good but inevitable sequel, he'll work on something else instead and let some other guy take the blame for an inferior sequel. See: RE3, DMC2, VJ2. :lol

Yeah, but DMC3 ended up better than DMC1.

Re4 is the best Resident Evil yet.

I havn't played VJ2 but I think most people didn't care for it becuase it was basically to simialr, not that it was bad.

Well, Mr. Gates called Nintendo a niche player, right? And this game clearly is a niche game, so it's obvious the Cube should get its version. :D

Anyway, looking forward to an eventual GC release...

Capcom gets too much shit for doing something that every other significant developer does. I think if you look at the overall picture, they have been really good about tryin new stuff this gen. I don't think the comment was out of line.

Okami is one of those games that I'd love to see on the GC and Capcom would certainly get a sale from me.

Mario 128:

"Nintendo's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Reggie Fils-Aime, has admitted as much. Nintendo will present a video teasing audiences to the gaming goodness that's to come."

What? I had grouped 128 along with Geist another game I'd never see in my lifetime. It seems like 128 has been talked about for ages and now they show it but only as a video? Is it Rev material? Nintendo's treatment of firstparty titles this gen baffles me.

Tell that to Megaman. :P

Capcom's actually been great at pushing new brands and series this generation, particularly in comparison to other Japanese publishers...

-Devil May Cry
-Onimusha
-Gyakuten Saiban
-PowerStone
-Monster Hunter
-auto modellista
-Viewtiful Joe
-Ookami
-Steel Batallion
-Chaos Legion
-PN03
-Killer 7
-El Dorado Gate
-Yuushun Rhapsody
-Gotcha Force
-Haunting Ground
-Crimson Tears
-Beatdown
-Maximo
-Shadow of Rome
-Under the Skin
-Sengoku Basara
-Glass Rose
-Everblue

...plus revitalising old properties...

-MegaMan Battle Network
-MegaMan Zero
-Resident Evil 4
-Resident Evil Outbreak
-Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
-Capcom Vs SNK
-Gundam Vs

...and Capcom pushes western IPs in Japan harder than anyone else...

-Grand Theft Auto
-The Getaway
-Mark of the Kri
-Spider-Man
-True Crime
-Tony Hawk/Kelly Slater/Max Hoffman
-UFC/PRIDE
-Red Dead Revolver
-Run Like Hell
-War of the Monsters
-Conflict Delta Storm
-Army Men
-Bass Strike

They've been good at making new games, but they've been fucking terrible at marketing them. Monster Hunter is the only one that's done remotely well recently. Onimusha and DMC already feel played out.

Yeah I agree that Capcom have definitely pushed their boundaries this gen. Of course they have cash-cows and the like, but they have expanded upon sequels and of course shoved up new IP's (even if they do resemble other games of their own).. something that hasn't really happened to Capcom since the NES/SNES/Arcade days.

I just laughed at the comment because Capcom are known as the sequel guys.

Agreed. Onimusha/DMC have already dropped to RE level sales.

Rockman.EXE and Gyakuten Saiban were recent Capcom success stories though. Monster Hunter was a surprise as well, but Capcom does need to get better at promoting their console stuff. I'm worried about Ookami.

In one of IGN's Pre-E3 articles ,the one that previewed all the upcoming shit (which I can't find right now) they said that an unknown game by Capcom was going to be announced for the Cube at E3. Basically they said it was going to one of the few surprise games for the Cube at E3.

IGN seems really confident that its Okami and since I can't see Capcom bringing something like DMC to the Cube then Okami is probably going to be the mystery game.

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection Online!

That would really make my day. Ookami is the kind of game that for some reason fits well with the cube I think.

My PS2 will get many games this year: Wanda (Shadow), Tales of Legendia, possibly FFXII (if it makes it this year) and DQVIII.

I would buy Ookami for the cube.

i just watched an ign video interview about okami... not only is the art style cool, but it looks really fun... it looks like the gameplay is just as awesome as the artstyle.

from looking at pictures, it looked like a side scrolling game and with those graphics i imagined it would be, but it's fully 3d and it's a wide open exploration oriented adventure game, like zelda only with platforming elements... the combat also looks really great. The wolf has killer combo's and crazy moves. whether this ends up being a ps2 or gamecube game, i'm keeping an eye on it. this has a chance to be a really great game.
