I was talking to some friends a few days ago about this. One of them said it's Joe Montana, and another said it's Peyton Manning. Who's right?

I'm kind of leaning towards Manning. I can't get over how well he's playing, and he's nearly 40. I can't recall any really bad seasons of his either.

Best ever? He's not even the best QB of his generation.

(and I'm a Giants fan FFS)

EDIT: beaten like Tom Brady in a SB against the Giants.

Montana, stats plus rings

Manning has great regular seasons then bad post seasons.

Me personally, I still have to give it to Montana (Montana played an an era where defense's could actually touch WRs and QBs), however, Manning is a very close second (almost a 1A/1B thing).

And no to Brady.

I'm actually kind of torn between Brady and Manning. It's almost interchangeable. I think I give Manning the slight edge though.

The reality is that both Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are better than Montana.

People just don't like admitting when newer generation players are superior to older ones.

So Kobe Bryant is better than Michael Jordan.
So Sidney Crosby is better than Wayne Gretzky.

I have been saying that Manning will end up as the best QB of all time since like 2003. Mostly because I'm surrounded by 49ers fans, and I really hate the Patriots and Tom Brady. If I end up being right I will post endless Colbert I Called It gifs.

Brady and Manning are also playing in a era where the league is geared towards offense, a luxury that Montana didn't have.

Give Montana the rules today with the teams that he had (especially that 89 team) and watch what he would do.

Montana is my favorite QB of all time, and the best of his era easily. The NFL is completely different now though, and right now Manning is the king of the current era.

If the pats woulda won their 16-0 season I think Brady would have to be considered the best ever because of that season.

Sadly the fucking giants...

Montana is GOAT.

If Peyton can win one more Super Bowl (especially if he continues the season he is currently having in order to do it), he can easily end any arguments that keep Tom Brady in front of him.

Tom Brady exists, and as long as he exists with those three SB wins, and as long as the NFL doesn't asterisk them like they should, he can be argued as better than Peyton (and even the equal of Montana).

I'm not doubting what Montana can do with today's rules and today's game.

Though the reality is you cannot really do a what if....It is what it is...

I'm not trying to say Manning and Brady are significantly better than Joe Montana, but for Montana to be this invincible untouchable player is preposterous when there are two quarterbacks like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

Brady threw 50 TD's in one season and went 16-0 with nearly 5,000 yards.

Peyton manning threw well over 4,000 yards in 12 seasons, has four MVP's, and also threw 49 TD's one season.

If he wins another super bowl I think you could easily make the argument. Hell many already think Elway is and he only has 2 rings (and 3 SB losses). But Peyton would have 2 rings and probably the best QB stats ever or 2nd best in a couple categories. No QB runs their offense like he has too. It'll probably come down to a toss up between Brady and Peyton.
