you could say that for elway or favre or young or anyone that played in that era

favre threw for 4200 yards and 33 touchdowns when he was in his 40s with todays rules

The fact that Favre threw for those stats with the new rules doesn't help your argument, since it just shows that the new rules benefit QBs.

Yeah and that means jack shit. Eli has 2 SB rings, and Payton has 1. Stats don't mean shit if you don't win the super bowl.

Don't fall into that ESPN bullshit where rings are all that matters. There's a lot of other factors to the position and the sport in general. There's no way Eli is anywhere near a best QB ever list let alone better than his brother. If he keeps his sub-par play up for another few seasons he'll be lucky to even get into the hall of fame.

Yes, but no one will consider him the best because he doesn't have more than one ring.

Having watched the Broncos this year I think that might change.

Lol @ anyone who actually believes Eli is even resembling his brother's skill simply because he won one more super bowl. Playoffs are kind of a crapshoot, like in any sport.

If Eli Manning did not have those 2 magical playoff runs he would not even be offered a spot in the Hall of Very Good.

His stats and play outside of those years has been mediocre as hell.

Oh please, the colts were a SB favorite many years in a row. You all act like the colts were some down and out team for most of Payton's stay.

You're right that the Colts were good, but you're also making it sound like those playoff losses were Peyton's fault and Eli's wins are his and his alone. It's more complicated than that.

Eli's Giants teams were considerably better than Peyton 's Colts.

Are you seriously trying to argue that Eli is better?

You're fucking delusional. Lmao.

:jnc at this revisionist history. The Colts had home field advantage at least twice and a bunch of 12+ win seasons with Peyton at the helm. The Giants were a 5 and a 6 seed both of the Super Bowls they won. In fact, I think the last one they had a 9-7 regular season record iirc. So yeah, that's a bunch of bull.

first post and all. Peyton is good, but not as good as Brady. Anyone who says otherwise in regards to Brady isn't really a fan of football, just a fan of hating the Patriots which is a sad and pathetic existence.

I don't understand why most people put more value on specifics (# of championships) when talking about careers in a TEAM sport.

Consistency and dominance in and out every regular season is far more important to me. Can't win playoffs if you don't always get to them.

Say what you will but imagine it was the last 2 minutes of the SB and your teams need a touchdown to win. Who would you want leading the final drive?

Yes. He might not have as many rings or might not be as "clutch" but he is by any objective measure the best QB ever

I don't know about the best
it's Elway
but we can all agree about the sexiest -

You can be both a fan of football and of hating the Pats.
Also, this why people hate patriots fans.

Question: Has Peyton Manning ever thrown an interception in a Super Bowl? If the answer is yes, then he's not better than Joe Montana.

So sorry Peyton. It's not that you are bad exactly, you just arent as accurate or as good at reading defenses as Joe Montana. If you were then you wouldnt have thrown an interception in a Super Bowl.

Also, sorry about your gigantic forehead.

Joe Flacco equals with Joe Montana confirmed.

Guys seriously. He threw to Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison and now three of the best receivers currently playing.

Tom Brady threw to Reche Caldwell and some other guys. I forget because they never made teams after the Patriots.

Reche Caldwell.

lol at the Superbowls don't matter bunch. The most important metric is Superbowl wins with consistency in winning directly behind that. Brady has both in spades. Manning wishes he had that Brady consistency.

To me, depends on criteria. Best Statistical Overall Quarterback? Manning hands down. Nobody has the kind of calculated precision that he constantly shows.

If you go for stuff like Wins, Rings, all that, then its a lot murkier.

Brady loses points because of one thing. When he went down, the team still won 11 games. When Peyton went down, the Colts won 1.

Peyton>Montana>Brady>Marino

In discussion: Elway, Favre, Young

Tough call between Manning and Montana. Brady not in the discussion imo. Hasn't done shit since spygate.

See, sad existence and all is summed up in this piss-poor response. Anybody who wasn't delusional can see the non-reality this mentality exists in. Done nothing? Nothing? You can't even be taken seriously as a fan of football.

I think it's a valid argument but I'd like to bring up some points of contention:

1. When was the last time Peyton Manning brought his team back from a deficit in the playoffs? I can remember one instance - the year the Colts won the Super Bowl and Manning led them back from an 18 point deficit in the AFC championship game vs the Pats.

2. Someone needs to address why Manning's teams always seem to fail at the worst times. The amount of times he's played on teams that have been considered contenders but get upset is a common narrative for his career.

2003: Colts finish the season 12-4. Destroy the Broncos in the Wild Card game 41-10 and defeat the Chiefs 38-31 in a game which there were no punts. Lose to the Pats 24-14.

2004: Manning's best season. 49 touchdowns, 121 passer rating in the regular season. Put up 49 points vs the Broncos in the Wild Card, 3 points vs the Pats in the Divisional.

2005: This year seems to be gift wrapped for them. They get a first round bye, the Pats get eliminated by the Broncos in the Wild Card. What could go wrong? Manning loses to the Steelers in the Divisional Game in one of the worst officiated games I've ever seen. The shoddy officiating is forgotten because of the Fumble by Bettis at the end and the game saving tackle by Roesthlisberger on Nick Harper followed by a choke by the Colts kicker. Manning played a terrible game though.

2006: Ironically, the one year in which they were not considered contenders due to their shoddy run defense. Manning ends up playing exactly one good game the entire playoffs though and his performance in the Super Bowl was average. He wins the big one finally.

2007: Colts get a first round bye, lose to the Chargers in the Divisional game. Can't really pin this on Manning; Rivers played out of his mind and the Chargers had some gutsy performances.

2008: Make it to the Super Bowl. Lose to the Saints. Manning famously throws a pick six when he attempts to make a 4th quarter comeback.

2009: Colts are not really considered a contender but they do lose in the playoffs to a team which they were favoured against.

2011: Missed 2010 due to injury. Comes back with a new team, leads them to a 13-3 season. Despite two special team touchdowns, the Broncos are unable to finish the Ravens in the divisional game. Manning throws an interception in overtime which eventually leads to a game winning field goal.

It's easily Manning. If he'd ever had a defense anywhere near as talented as either Brady or Eli had, he would easily have 5 or 6 rings. Look at last year. Baltimore needs to go 80 yards to tie Denver, and you have a safety get beat over the top by at least 5 yards? Can't blame Peyton for that...

Guys seriously. He threw to Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison and now three of the best receivers currently playing.

Manning basically makes any receiver playing with him look amazing.

Not that Harrison and Wayne weren't/aren't great players, but if Manning didn't play with them they wouldn't be HOFers. Wayne didn't do much at all the season Manning was out injured.

And regarding Brady, the only thing I need to know about his Super Bowl record is this: Prior to the Patriots getting caught and fined for filming opponent walkthroughs, Brady won 4. Since they were caught and fined, he's won 0. I don't find this coincidental...

They went undefeated in the regular season after getting caught and only lost in the Super Bowl because of one of the most ridiculously lucky plays of all time with the Tyree catch.

What a bunch of garbage.
