Is PS5 the second coming of PS2?

PS2 killed Dreamcast & received Sega games

PS5 killed Xbox Series consoles & received Xbox games .

PS5 is now around 90 million sold while still being a fresh new product to most people so it will have a few more years on the market to overtake PS1 & PS4 to become PlayStation's second best selling console before it's all said & done.

Imo it will take #1 in sales from ps2 when all is said and done, nearly 90 million sold so far and minimum price still around $400-$450? It helps that xbox mangement shat the bed and have nothing to offer (PS2 gen would have gone on longer were it not for og xbox getting killed off early to make way for "head start" 360).

It's too many uncertainties in the industry to know if it will make it to 160m but 120m is mostly a lock right now after GTA6

The problem here is that Xbox is releasing more games on PS5 than Sony itself, and not that Xbox is releasing that much anyway...
Why is that a problem? What difference does it make if a game boots up on PS5 showing "Sega", "MS" or whatever instead of "Activision". It's a publisher.

Nowhere close as most of the better games are also on PC.

With the PS2 at least games like Vice City, San Andreas, FFX, Silent Hill, RECV, RE4, Twisted Metal, and a whole bunch of other exclusives were on it.

While some games on the PS2 like gta games did also came out on PC too back then but PC wasn't as big compared to PC gaming in the modern times where it's bigger than all consoles combined.

Early 360 days they spent a shit ton of money getting a bunch of Japanese releases exclusively on 360. But once they released Kinect and thought that was the bright new future....
For me PS5 is going same direction Xbox solely focusing on western market. It my bring reason why I no longer have any interest for Sony's first party output.

Thank god for 3rd party games.

What are you on about? RE4 was a timed gamecube exclusive. PS2 got it late. Vice City and San Andreas also went to xbox later. What is different today?

Xbox killed itself.
Sega did maybe the same, with games like Shenmue (way too expensive).
The VMUs weren't helpful (made the controllers too expensive) and neither that the rest of the controller wasn't the hit (no rumble, only one analog stick, no L2 and R2 buttons etc.).
And wasn't the Dreamcast the "weakest" console of the 6th generation?

Loved the PS4 thought I'd really be into the PS5, but I just prefer the Xbox this generation. Really prefer the Series X controller and quick resume. Sucks Microsoft is destroying the Xbox brand.

Plus PC wasn't as big as PS2 back then even with some great games.

It wasn't until the release of World of Warcraft and the Source games with orange box did PC start surpassing them slowly. Now with the PC being the biggest by far, no console will ever reach ps2 status.

Although PS5 is still probably the best PS console after PS2 and PS1.

PS5 selling 100M at it's average price point is a much better achievement than ps2.

As for software considering it's got 2 more years of this gen and probably 6-8 of cross gen coming up it's total library is going to be unprecedented when all is said and done. Especially with all the MS games.

In my opinion , in terms of games The p s four is the second coming of the ps2

No, but I think the PS6 will be. Xbox won't exist anymore or have any real relevance, Switch 2 won't be able to handle a lot of next-gen games, and the PS6 will get a flood of third-party exclusives just like the PS2 did, becoming the default console worldwide almost immediately.

You basically get drip fed expensive and or late Xbox games and 2 Sony games per year. It's obviously popular but I can't imagine core fans being satisfied.

I'd take PS2's first year over five years of the PS5

its insane how low sony has fallen in so many ways while still selling very well

Activision & Bethesda =/= Xbox

Call of Duty, Doom, Indiana Jones, Starfield, Tony Hawk would've all come out on PS5 anyway had those publishers remained multiplatform -- them being allowed to release those titles on PlayStation mostly due to Xbox's multiplatform pivot is nothing but a return to the status quo, rather than a flex of Microsoft Gaming's publishing aparatus.
