Is Richard Garriot attempting to negotiate a Larian collaboration for the next Ultima?

Heartwarming to see all the Ultima love here.

It’s no secret that I absolutely adore Ultima VII Parts 1 and 2. I used to replay them every year and I would always discover new shit with each play-through.

That said, I also loved Pagan—despite it being such a massive departure from what we expected from Ultima, with its cut content and some questionable gameplay design choices. Even so, it had an undeniable atmosphere. The graphics, the music, and the overwhelming sense of oppression and danger still leave a lasting impression on me to this day. And the fact that they made it in just a year is still a damn great feat.

While I’d love to see the entire Ultima saga revisited, I especially would love to see a remake of Pagan and Ascension—to finally give the Guardian Trilogy a proper send off.

I think the Elder Scrolls series kind of a spiritual successor to the Ultima series. But I would like to see Garriot make one more.

Give me more ultima Underworld.

If you are talking about which big video game RPG franchises are influenced by Ultima it is easier to list the ones that are not. Any classic JRPG or Zelda type game with top-down view is, all Bioware games are, all Larian games are from the original divinity, Fable is. Witcher probably is indirectly, at least, but I don't know how much they care. Diablo is basically an Ultima clone. It is mind-boggling that it is so deep under the radar for millenial gamers and younger.
Arx Fatalis wasn't just influenced

Arkane Studios have stated that Arx Fatalis was intended to be Ultima Underworld III; however, while Raphaël Colantonio had support from Paul Neurath, one of the original developers of Ultima Underworld, Electronic Arts, who owned the rights, would not allow Arkane to make a sequel with their intellectual property unless he accepted some of their provisions. Colantonio refused to accept this and instead had Arkane set out on the game in the spirit of Ultima Underworld.
