Is the Switch 2’s portability of any value to you?

It’s nice. If nothing else, it’s a built in UPS. I like it. People seem to like the Steam Deck and Portal too. I understand the need and the appeal of it. I will always own the current Nintendo console if I can afford it and am free to do so.

Very much so now. Many time I wish I could fired up games while traveling away from home. Playing mobile phone game just sucks with touch screen.

No nonsense console gamer here, the portable responsibility belonged to gameboy now people think it should be a standard console feature, sure the portable factor is a blessing but I never used the switch’s handheld screen once.

portability is the feature of most value to me, when I'm away from home is when I have more time to play.

Right now I'm playing FFVII Remake but for the holidays we have to go visit family everywhere, I could just tell my wife to drive and keep playing where I left or sneak a few minutes here and there.

None.

I use the current Switch 100% docked, and will do the same with Switch 2. I'm hoping for something with more power this time and graphical capability that takes us docked users into consideration.

If the thing is as bulky and exposed as the switch then no. My switch is purely a home console because it's portability is complete ass. The New 3DS continues to suit those needs infinitely better.

I would say my interest comes EXCLUSIVELY in the handheld factor. I never used my Switch when docked, and I do t expect that to change for the successor. If the next Nintendo consoles DOESNT have handheld support… well, I’d probably still buy it, to be honest. But my own excitement would plummet, and I’d be far more inclined to just wait for a sale.

What time is it?
I've used my Switch 99% in docked mode but it was nice to have as a companion on the few trips I've taken. The real value to me is that I find ~10w gaming far more interesting than the vast, vast majority of games that push the hardware capabilities of traditional consoles or high-end PCs.

Nah, I live alone, so no need to share, besides, gaming is my dirt little secret, out there I'm just cool looking guy that is very contemplative. Chicks love that, gaming would ruin my look.

Besides, we don't even know if switch successors will have this functionality, so why suffer on anticipation?

No, I have zero interest in portable gaming and would prefer it to not have a screen. It will stay docked forever by my TV 😁
Agreed. I hope Nintendo give us the choice of 2 versions: Handheld with dock OR dedicated unit. Probably not likely but the clusterfuck known as the Xbox Series S actually released so who knows what's possible.

Plays with kids toys, in the adult gaming world
No use. Will be leaving it docked indefinitely.

Wish a console version was sold for $50-100 cheaper w/ a pro controller I'd rather buy that.

Haven't cared about handheld gaming since the Game Gear as soon as I could play PSP/Vita games elsewhere they went back in the box.

Not at all. I’d rather pay less and just have a box on my entertainment unit like any other console.
Hell charge me the same and give me a pro controller instead of joycons.

My main gaming station is my PC: 5800X, 64 GB RAM, and a 3070 makes for a pretty great experience. My display is an LG C3 77” and I have a high end surround sound system with 9.2 audio.

The way I have my setup, I can game on my couch with a controller, at my desk with KB/M, or even on my couch with a KB/M very easily due to the way I’ve connected everything and the layout of my home.

This flexibility also makes it difficult for me to enjoy gaming any other way. Nothing beats a high end OLED big display, high end audio, and the comfort of playing at a desk or on the couch any way I want.

Which leads me to how I’m looking at the Switch 2… I have a Switch since launch but stopped playing it handheld altogether. I’m thinking of a getting a Switch 2, but don’t like the idea of it being docked 100% of the time. Seems like a waste when portability is inherent to its design. Battery degrades for nothing, less power due to the portability…

Could I game on the go? Perhaps… but I find when I’m out and about I’d rather read on my phone, hang out on these forums, etc.. I’d rather experience gaming in the best way possible than on a small screen in my hands. This has basically ruined the Steam Deck for me, and other handhelds.

If you use these systems as they were designed (gaming on the go), how and where do you do it?

P.S., I can see how beneficial it is to someone who spends a lot of time in hotels and on planes, but those days are behind me. Even then I works end up so tired from work and the travel that I just want to sleep at that point. Just not the same gaming.
It's of the utmost value to me. Switch handheld form factor is why I loved the system so much.

PS- forgot to add that I want it to remain a hybrid design. With Switch 2 having superior graphics, I'll be much more inclined to play it docked on my 4k TV. I've used it 98% in handheld because most games look like crap on my 4k oled unfortunately.
