With price increases just around the corner, does it make sense to grab a Switch 2 now? I'm just wondering how current owners feel about the thing.

Does the screen bother you? Are the games good? What about the battery life?

Just want some honest opinions before I drop half a grand on it.

I only used mine docked beyond initial setup.
Honestly, it depends. Do you have a switch 1? If no then yeah its worth it.
Is it going to be your main console and aren't a diehard Nintendo fan? Probably not
Just as the console it self, I still feel it's overpriced and the new game pricing and accessory (especially accessory) pricing is insane imo. I probably would not have my switch 2 still if it wasn't for my nephews. But in a few years time, it will have a nice library that will make up for the other problems and be worth it. So with how economy has been going lately probably worth grabbing now before price hike if it catches your interest enough.

As a portable from my understanding the battery life is a joke but as I mentioned above I'm a dock only user.

Not at all. The only use for it for me has been Mario Kart (which was cool for a week), Bravely Default HD (which is now on other platforms), and the myriad Switch 1 games that run massively better on the new hardware. There are admittedly a few games that I want to play that I just haven't gotten around to, but it's way behind the point I thought the system would be at almost a year into its life, and even the upcoming titles are pretty underwhelming.

So, if you really want a new system to toy around with, it'll serve that purpose, but the actual software lineup is pretty anemic unless you're really focused on the Switch 2 as a better way to play Switch 1 games.

I really like my Switch 2, the Switch 1 has an excellent library and many of those games look and run noticeably better on the 2. The 2 software is starting to get there and with Nintendo they always have more right around the corner. The Joycon 2 controllers are a massive improvement on the original.

Right now I'm addicted to Tomodachi Life, and we have Star Fox and Zelda remakes later this year. Plenty for ya if you're interested and I would get it before the price hike for sure

I love mine. DK Banaza and Hades 2 were great. Cyberpunk 2077 plays awesome. Back catalogue is huge. I suppose it depends on what you have already.

I like mine, but I'll be honest I think I've spent more time with my Switch 1 overall since getting the Switch 2. Mario Kart World and DK Banaza didn't really do much for me. I did play the shit out of Age of Imprisonment though.

That being said, they're finally coming out with some actually exclusive actually good-looking games so that'll probably change.

After beating BOTW and TOTK it's been getting ignored like my PS5 until the next hot exclusives drops. My Xbox Series X is at my cousins house because he's too broke to buy a console. I didn't give a single fuck about that one.

Bought it back in June or July I think. Truly speaking my Switch 1 backlog is huge (~400 games) so I only played one Switch 2 game, Hogwarts Legacy. I like the larger screen, but I don't really like the fact that it's LCD, I play in handheld mode at bed and it's kind of bright compared to the oled. Storage is also pretty expensive, I got a 256gb card so I couldn't transfer every game from my 1tb Switch 1 card there, in fact I spent like 3 or 4 months finishing the largest games and deleting them (Bioshock 1, 2 and Infinite, every Resident Evil, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Hogwarts Legacy, etc, etc) just to make room for the downloads to continue. It was just like in February when the last one (Witcher 3 at 30gb) could be downloaded. And still I'm playing digital games that I want to delete to make room, right now playing Ni no Kuni, then might play Ni no Kuni 2 or any of the Assassin Creed.

So, if those $50 in September really hurt you, yeah, buy it and enjoy it. But if they are pocket change for you, maybe wait for some more good exclusives.

I've played Switch 2 in handheld more than docked due to the larger, higher res screen. Since the handheld boost mode update I think it's gone from great to awesome. Worth it to me. YMMV, obviously.

It's worth it if:
- you have an existing Switch library
- you really love the few first party exclusives
- portability is important to you

Honestly ours barely gets any use. I prefer playing on PC or PS5. And for portability, Steam Deck and PlayStation Portal get more use from me. I'm sure that'll change once we get more first party games.

The only Switch 2 games I own right now are MK World and upgrades. Worth it? You bet. My back catalog of games and the enhancements to Switch titles made me want one ASAP. If I had more disposable cash I'd own a lot more but gaming on a budget right now so I have to be a bit frugal with money.

Yes No ? I like it but dont play it as much as I should.

Right now think of it as an early stage PS5. All it has is like dark souls, returnal and clank. While also being a super PS4.

One might say you don't need one that strongly. One might also say you can't go without one.

It really depends on your priorities. If you don't care about handheld at all and will only leave it docked, you're getting much less for the money. Yes, the screen is good. I think it's an outstanding handheld.

It's expensive. Gets several hours less battery life.
You have to pay more money to get Switch 2 versions of games you already paid big bucks for.

Owning a Switch 2 drains a wallet faster than any other gaming platform on the face of the earth.

It's only going to get more expensive. Might as well buy it now.

I like Nintendo games and it has a huge library because of backwards compatibility. I only play on my tv. My favorite thing about it is most Nintendo games can easily be picked back up and played after large breaks. This is perfect for me as an adult with a large family and sporadic free time.

My absolute favorite thing about the Switch 2 is portability. I do not mean handheld gaming. I mean, I have one Switch 2 and multiple docks. I can freely move it from room to room with no hassle and no worries about cloud saves.

My least favorite?

I wish they had juiced up the dock a bit more for a better TV experience.

Do you use the Nintendo dock in multiple rooms? They're expensive no?

Yeah, I caved and got it a few weeks back when it was $50 off. Kids played a bit of new Mario Kart and that's about it.

I got some upgrades for Switch games and they were ok. Prices aren't likely to go down any time soon so if you have some interest might as well grab it.

Edit: Battery life and screen still suck.

I don't use mine as much as I anticipated.

I've been busy though, and multiplayer shooters on my PC has been all I've really felt like playing, so it's not really the Switch 2's fault.

The poor battery doesn't help, mind.

The library is bulking out, so if it looks to have enough of the games you like, yhen you might as well jump in before a price rise.

I do. It was a lot cheaper than having to buy multiple consoles like I usually do. :messenger_grimmacing_

I also have a cheaper dock I got on Amazon for work that did not break with firmware. Bonus, it also works for my Legion Go. It was only $25 but I also had to pick up a charger for an additional $35 (anker 100 watt). Just be sure to check reviews on any docks sold on Amazon. I bought one that did not work. I still use it for the Legion Go on another TV so it wasn't a waste for me.

eah, I caved and got it a few weeks back when it was $50 off.
It's such a tiny handheld. So much tech in a tiny package.
I've got a Steam Deck LCD and an Ally X. THICK
Expensive joycons. So far I've not had to replace them 'yet'.

check out these new joycons. If I see them at Gamestop I'm gonna get em.

The screen - if you play a dark horror game then the lack of true OLED blacks will become apparent. The only game where ghosting has bothered me so far is Hollow Knight where it is quite visible. Other than those I have no complaints at all about the screen. It is nice, big and juicy.

The battery life isn't great but it depends a lot on how you use it. If you don't play more than some 2 hours before you charge again then it won't be an issue. If you need more than that then there will be problems.

The thing is also a fair bit heavier than the Switch 1 which did annoy me a lot at first, though I have largely gotten used to it now. You might want to consider buying a grip if you play a lot handheld.

As an old Nintendo customer the thing that hasn't changed is you'll always think about getting the most out of the console right after you unbox it, it's something unique we used to find on older consoles.

I enjoy the system and I'm glad I have it, but the thin controller edges hurt my hands when I'm playing handheld mode. I probably have to buy a cradle like I did for Switch 1. Aside from that it's great. Love the 8" screen.

I would just go ahead and get it if you want it, probably won't be the last hike.

I love DK Bananza and my daughter likes Pokopia, but otherwise not a lot of exclusive software I love yet. Star Fox is coming soon, will day 1 that for sure.

Battery life is fine, not quite as good as the OLED though. I do use it to play most Switch titles - those with bespoke upgrades like BotW or TotK are massive upgrades. I like it as a piece of hardware. It does lack exclusive system sellers at the moment though, but time will fix that, I don't have doubt.

I'm on the fence really but voted no since mine doesn't get much use. Depends if you have other systems and if you already own a switch 1. DK Bananza is really great and that's the best reason to own it rn.

Main reason I wanted one is for enhanced switch 1 games. Though since I primarily play it docked the only games that benefit are ones that get patched and those with unlocked framerates. Bayonetta 3 had the biggest improvement and is great now.

But beyond those two it's just for the improvements to the nintendo exclusives: Mario, zelda, metroid & donkey kong. They are all mostly good enough on switch 1. For everything else I prefer other systems.

If I didn't already own it, I'd wait for the inevitable OLED screen and hope that the next revision fixes the video-out over USB. It don't use standard USB video output so you have to carry around a separate dongle if you travel.

It's a good system. While I don't regret buying it, it mostly sits idle so I would have been better off waiting for the next revision and when there's more games. The games they do have are very expensive and I find myself reluctant to give them money these days. Would rather give it to good 'ole Gabe where I'm appreciated and get more bang for the buck. So for those reasons I'd wait till there's more exclusives, more patches, and cross my fingers for a reversion if you don't have one already.

Playing TotK at a decent resolution and frame rate, priceless. It's a fun game, but my very small child thinks this shit is magic.

There was something to that "feeling of exploring the woods" concept behind the original Zelda. The woods doesn't move at 30 fps.

I'm sure there are other good games.

That is honestly the only thing one needs to consider when buying or not buying a Switch 2. There's literally no reason to pick it up over a Steam Deck UNLESS you like Nintendo games.
I do think the switch 2's DLSS offers an advantage over the steam deck, Pragmata and re9 look quite decent on the machine.

If u have kids yea.

My son play Fortnite Lego , Minecraft , Mario wonder and when we travel we can play together . So instead of iPad we are engaging together .

If no kids It's a easy pass.

I mean do you like Nintendo games?

If yes, then yes. If no, then no.

I'm enjoying mine, use it a ton, and regardless of what is out now it's going to get Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Smash, etc. The usual Nintendo stuff, which to me is among the best games the industry has to offer and not something I'm willing to not be able to play. If that's something you're going to want, might as well get it before the price goes up. If you don't care about that stuff than you can probably safely skip.

I've never skipped a Nintendo console and never regretted it

if you like Nintendo games, of course its worth it

if you're just looking for something handheld to play 3rd party video games, I'd get something with an OLED

Not yet because the new Mario Kart turned out to be bad. But usually the console ends up having some exclusives that I want to play like Octopath and Bravely games in previous gen. So might just keep it around for that.

If you don't own one yet, just hold off until it gets the games you want? Or buy now if you know you'll play something on it for sure.

I dig mine. Multiple docks, glass protector screen. Battery life sucks, but you can get a couple of hours play before it needs a recharge. Plays most Switch 1 games better. Mario Kart World is great. Most third party games look good and feel good.

If you have family that enjoys local multiplayer games, it's fantastic.
