Is there a better combination than Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass?

I just watched Jason Bourne tonight. I remember hearing about some criticism for its lack of action but I can only chuckle at that suggestion now. What a great ride! And that ending too was pure class.

But it's not new with this director. Their previous film (Green Zone) was a great watch too. Somehow, they're able to produce incredibly engaging stories shot in a way that makes close combat and chase sequences seem fresh and new.

Is there a better combination than these two working in a film together?

Coming from a huge Bourne fan the plot had potential, but in general you can tell Tony Gilroys cohesive script was missing. The whole side plot was pointless too.

Toshiro Mifune and Akira Kurosawa
DeNiro and Scorsese

The first two that came to mind.

Beyond that, maybe Samuel L. Jackson and Quentin Tarantino?

I also like the recurring Bill Murray roles in Wes Anderson's movies, but I don't think it's actually produced consistently groundbreaking or spectacular work, The Life Aquatic notwithstanding.

DiCaprio and Scorcese?

Also: Tom Cruise and any competent action director. Which reminds me, I should do a rewatch of Edge of Tomorrow.

OP is joking, right?

I mean, as far as actor/director combos go.

Like, you've got the obvious ones like Spielberg and Hanks, Cameron and Schwarzenegger, Scorsese and De Niro.

Then you've got combos like Godard and Anna Karina, Boyle and McGregor, Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson, PTA and PSH.

Damon and Greengrass aren't even a blip on that radar.

John Carpenter & Kurt Russell
Chow Yun Fat & John Woo
De Niro & Scorsese (and Joe Pesci, of course)
Bill Paxton & James Cameron (and Schwarzenegger)
David Lynch & Kyle MacLachlan (and Angelo Badalamenti)
Spielberg & Tom Hanks

Toshiro Mifune and Akira Kurosawa
DeNiro and Scorsese

herzog and kinski

(and popol vuh)

Yep.

Also,
Philip Seymour Hoffman and PTA
Klaus Kinski and Herzog
Anna Karina and Jean Luc Godard
Bill Murray and Wes Anderson

John Carpenter & Kurt Russell
Chow Yun Fat & John Woo
De Niro & Scorsese (and Joe Pesci, of course)
David Lynch & Kyle MacLachlan (and Angelo Badalamenti)
Yes to all of these.
And add Laura Dern & Lynch as well.
John Turturro/John Goodman & The Coen Brothers

Just about anything. The Greengrass Bourne films vary from unwatchable garbage to almost okay. I have no idea what anyone sees in this series.
