Is there a developer you would miss badly if they folded?

um, pretty much any developer that makes games i enjoy. i dont think you really want me to list that. i dont really want to list all of that :P

Well I sure as hell would be unhappy to see the demise of Sega, they pretty much got me into gaming and kept me gaming. Without them, the industry would be a much worse place to play.

Sega, of course. The sad thing is, although it would be very bad for them to disappear, their current state (which I hope is a result of them gearing up for next-gen) makes it too easy to imagen how the gaming worls would be without them...

Troika...
...Oh wait.

New Word Computing...
...damn.

Origin!...
...shit.

Black Isle...
...see above.

Sane Squaresoft...
...too late!

...

VALVe.

Harmonix.

It's never any fun when an established game company closes down or gets bought and marginalized. The Oddworld Inhabitants news was definitely a downer, and I never even really got into the series.

Capcom, Konami, Namco, and Square.

Most my games are Japanese developed.

Capcom mostly for their franchises, and at the same time when they create something new and big, it is really new and big. Case n' point, Onimusha 1. DMC, RE4 (which is practically a new damn series since it's so different).

Nintendo, Capcom, Konami, Sega.

A part of me died the day Black Isle went tits up. /salute

I know Square-Enix won't ever disappear, but Square itself have been practically invisible to me, so little quality in recent years. For me, they've become un-important and to think that just 5 years ago, it was unthinkable.

A few years ago I would have said Square and Sega. But now I could live without Square and Sega the way they've been lately. The last Square game I purchased was Final Fantasy X and from Sega, Panzer Dragoon Orta.

As of now, I say Nintendo, Capcom, and Konami.

Edit: I didn't even read the post above me. We both said Square isn't important anymore. At least I know i'm not alone.

Snowblind Studios? The guys behind Dark Alliance? :lol

And Champions. The fact they was able to wow me with both of those series, makes me like them much. What interesting, both series are the type of games I've been itching to play for years.

alright I just wanted to make sure since I found the gameplay in DA to be very shallow.

there are a lot of developers i would miss badly if they folded. but if cave or treasure went under, i'd feel like an entire tradition of gaming was ending, and i'd feel like independent development was ending. neither of those feelings would be entirely accurate, of course, but it would still be depressing. and given the attrition rate among shooter developers, it's a real prospect. :/ well, cave's arcade games do extremely well, and treasure apparently have a sound business model. here's to their continued health.

If Nintendo folded I'd fuck the video game world and say goodbye. I would look to my backlog of awesome games for the remainder of my life.

Bioware and maybe Square.

I could see myself not giving a damn about those two companies eventually though. I hope Bioware goes back to making more pure PC gaming goodness instead of console/pc hybrids. The Squaresoft of old, especially in the SNES days had me entranced. Final Fantasy 6 is my favorite game to this day. I don't know what the hell happened to them this generation though.

Nintendo
DICE
Silicon Knights
Rare (atlhough right now they're as good as gone... come on CBFD)
Capcom
Konami
Q Entertainment

Intelligent Systems
Silicon Knights
EAD
Alphadream Corporation (Mario & Luigi RPG is the reason)
Namco

and Zoonami :)
