Is there any chance for a TV-only Switch 2?

I honestly would love to see it.

But I don't see it happening.

It’ll never happen because Nintendo has made it clear they don’t want to compete with consoles. They’ve found their niche (hybrid). Console only has too much overlap on the current market.

Plus someone who would buy a Switch TV (or whatever) will still buy a Switch 2. So all they would be doing is cannibalizing their sales.

You’ll see a Switch 2 Lite before you ever see a TV.
Yeah, Switch 2 is a handheld console with TV capabilities. Not the other way around. Switch 2 Lite will be released for those who want a cheaper model, but the normal Switch 2 >is< the TV model.

It's HDMI 2.0 and not 2.1 so it's VRR implementation on tvs will be hit or miss
I've read the switch 2 outputs displayport port 1.4 via the usb-c to the dock and it is converted to hdmi 2.1

DP1.4 is 32gbit bandwidth compare to hdmi2.1 48gbit so it doesn't support the full bandwidth but it is a hdmi2.1 port.

I have a Steam Deck and a Switch, neither of them have ever left their docks for any playtime. Not even for curiosity's sake.

I could see foresee Nintendo making a budget "Switch" that is console only mode now that the 2 is on the horizon. That would make sense.

Anyway, Nintendo never has to play the "power game" with a hybrid. Your expectations have to be placed in check with a portable.

It felt weird to me that Nintendo released the Switch lite as a portable-only mode, but it made sense that the portable part of the console was the most successful. This time, with technology like 4K upscaling, HDR, and Spatial Audio, it would make sense to release a TV-only version.

Do you think there would be enough demand for it?

To me, it feels like a waste to have a screen and all these features for portable gaming, when I don't use them.

A TV-only model + PRO Controller + HDMI 2.1 that's all I would want.
Exactly what I’ve been saying for years. A home version of contestant hardware. I’ve never, ever been a portable or handheld guy. Their bs reasoning will be the “dock”. Listen, bottom line is overall, they stopped even trying to compete with the other big 2. So once they thought how successful every one of their handhelds were, and to simply development, they made this hybrid that’s 3 generations behind. I always said instead of this switch hybrid nonsense. They always killed every hardware, home or portable, simply make a more current and up to date tech home console, for people exactly like us. I’d gladly pay more for a home console more powerful .

But they choose to make toys, not beat their completion.

Doubt it. It means Nintendo will have to source more parts for TV only unit.

Switch is already a success so why would they want to go back?

I pray for a docked only Switch Pro, but I don't think we'll get it because Nintendo is Nintendo.

Only way I could see it is if Switch 2 sales are lower than expected but they still want the push and leverage the core Switch 2 hardware/install base. A cheaper TV only variant would probably help.

Nah. Never gonna happen.

I'd prefer it, I don't really use my Switch in handheld often - especially since getting an SD.
