Is there any manga/anime that has the potential to become an interesting game?

Love Blame! It's a masterpiece but not sure if it can be done right game wise. Even the anime adaptation felt like they tried to pour an ocean into a glass.

But Biomega might kinda work, it's basically way more actiony Blame! Action Survival Cyber Horror?

I have all 6 volumes of Biomega sitting on my shelve for 2-3 years now but i still haven't read them. :/

Nausicaa and Kill la Kill already got games, but I'd like to have great new games with AAA top tier quality made today.

Ghost in the Shell also got one for PS1 and I think they were making a F2P one. I'd like to see a new console game made by Sony Japan Studio.

Personally i have stopped reading/watching manga/anime a long time ago but there are some that i really love and i think some have the potential to become interesting games. One such manga is Blame! by Tsotomu Nihei.
Blame! often comes up in many people's wishlists when we are talking about what type of a potential FromSoftware sci-fi Souls game could be or what type of a sci-fi game people would love to see. I think the manga has a very unique setting and story and i think it has the potential to become a great game in the hands of the right developers.

Interestingly there is already a game out there that draws a lot of inspiration from Blame! and that is the indie game Memory of a Broken Dimension.

But although MOABD is amazing (especially when considering it's the work of one man) i was thinking more of a big budget game that directly brings Blame! to video game format but also has something of the aesthetics of MOABD. Two developers that would have been great for a Blame! adaptation are FromSoftware and Ueda's GenDesign IMO.

So what manga/anime do YOU think has good potential to become interesting games and if so from which developer(s)?

YES!!! I read BLAME lasst year and thought about what a great game it would make too! I imagined a procedurally generated "levels" that would have its random assortment of survivors, AI or whatever the "black" creatures were. The person can the do Up a level (hard) or laterally(easier) to a new area. Make the main focus of the gameplay the climbing (a la BOTW/DS), with a bit of stealth (to avoid the AI) and puzzle solving (to reactivate terminals to open locks. Of course each lock would have some sort of enemy that you must get past.... luckily you have that SUPER laser cannon to wield.

Also, Id kill for a motorcycle combat game based of Akira. Playing FF7R there are a couple bike parts that were fairly cool (despite serious design flaws) that had me thinking how much cooler it would be with Kaneda or tetsuo fighting the clown gang. Could make it like Road Rash meets Crazy Taxi in an openworld Neo Tokyo. You have to pick up/Drop off various things for teh gang in a time limit, while avoiding or fighting the other gangs.

Mass effect style but with decent size area to explore for each world tracking down bounties with an larger story arc over it all.
That. Exactly like the series, actually. Some encounters with Vicious from time to time, building for the final showdown

I’ll also take a current-gen Akira game on the side, please

The game could easily fit into a Witcher-style format, where you play as a contractor hunting other stars (you'd have to read/watch it to understand that). But inside future Tokyo rather than the countryside.

Initial D also deserves another chance on consoles IMO. The anime had a strong following in the West and it's still a relatively recognizable IP. Just give it a bigger budget than they gave to Extreme Stage on PS3 and add a 3rd person camera view while keeping the beautiful cel shaded aesthetics. Come on Sega i want to run in the '90's again! :messenger_sunglasses:

I'd love to see a Made in Abyss JRPG. The soundtrack is already amazing in the anime, so they could use the same one. There's all sorts of weird creatures you could encounter, puzzles you could solve, and I love the behind the scenes spookiness of the fact that you can never return from where you came. I'd say make it a dungeon crawler but those are quite possibly the worst sub-genre of RPG.

Hmm well, i think Oni was meant to be a game adapted from Ghost in the Shell.. if they (bungie) gave that another shot it might be pretty great

Obviously "Lone Wolf & Cub" and "New Lone Wolf & Cub". An open world game with "a wandering assassin for hire".

Practically all of them, but some honourable mentions are as follows:

- Guyver (as RPG)
- My Hero Academia (as a Persona type game)
- Berserk (WRPG made by Dragon's Dogma team - the story is it's greatest strength so a souls game would ruin that aspect)
- Ghost in the Shell (open world RPG)

Basically all should be RPGs, JRPGs or WRPGs.

My dream game is a Zelda Wind Waker style One Piece game. Not necessarily using the strawhat crew of the manga but a unique one where you build up a crew to become pirate king. Featuring a mix of familiar and new islands

No love for Bleach in here I see.

Yes games were made, but none were done right. If they made them like the Naruto Shippuden games I'll be happy.

Most JRPGs are anime with gameplay. Heck many of them like final fantasy 15, dragon quest, persona, and .hack have their own animes already.

Then there's tons of them where the characters play video games in the anime, like sword art online. It's such a nice mesh between anime and jrpgs, it goes together like coffee and milk.

Urotsukidoji as a beat em up or sex game if you wanted something left field.

I would prefer the former, Amanojacku or his sister as the playable characters in a side scrolling Streets of Rage style game fighting different beasts and demons.

Megami-ryou no Ryoubo-kun, as a persona life/dating harem game. Where you are a 12 yr old boy, getting into wacky hijinx with the older women you live with. And you occasionally deal with your tsundere of a childhood friend

ANOTHER ONE?!

Wait they already had a game? Was it any good?

Action/Horror - Hellsing

Surprised we never got a Hellsing game. Closest were maybe the Gungrave games from RED and Sega back on PS2 which was ages ago (speaking of which why don't they do remastered updates for those with online play or something?).

I think the DMC team or Platinum would be obvious choices.

Angel Cop (Cyberpunk 2077 but cool)

Aw yeah, this one'd be pretty insane but, well, they definitely wouldn't use the "globalists" plotline from the Japanese version.

What about Outlaw Star, I've read somewhere that some Mass Effect devs were fans. And Ctarl Ctarl race gave them some of ideas for Mass Effect races. Dunno if that's true. Galactic Leyline was similar to Reapers - I think.

Also Oultaw Star endings were jaw dropping:

Also Trigun would make a fun western game like RDR

Just my 3 cents. FYI, these 3 anime are my top classics of all time.

I could get behind both outlaw star and Trigun.

I think both Akira and Ghost in the shell are really ripe for a modern Japanese cyberpunk game with their current technical know-how.

Hellsing, Lupin the third, and Trigun too. They're good candidates for over-the-top action shooters. I can see Hellsing being designed as a mash between Vampyr and Gungrave gameplay-wise. Might even apply that to Vampire hunter D too. There's generally way too few vampire hunting action themed games.

Lupin could work as a cover-based stealth, whacky/humorous, flashy action game, with a funky 1970's soundtrack to boot and, I don't like to say it, Uncharted-esque set pieces. It just fits the tone of the manga.

Trigun almost came to be back during the PS2 era.
