Soccer sucks. The rest of the world doesn't know shit about anything. America and parts of Europe, mostly Germans which like NFL Europe, RULE.

American (real) football rocks, and I don't even follow sports much. It's just such an interesting game with a perfect scoring pace (as opposed to something like basketball, or on the other end of the spectrum, soccer). Soccer is fuckin boring, although I acknowledge that it requires incredible athleticism. A bunch of guys kick the ball up and down the field for 20 minutes, then something finally happens. Fuckin boring. Just because it's the most widely played sport doesn't mean it's the best. I thought we would be smart enough by now to know popularity != quality.

You just proved my point. Curling > NFL.

It can be an exciting sport I guess, but I don't watch it much. I prefer sports with bigger international followings.

PeeWee Football kid agrees.

I could hardly give a fuck how many countries follow a sport.

A.K.A. "FOOTBALL"

Football is an english word. America rules the shit out of England, therefore we get to define FOOTBALL. Futbol is a Spanish word, which can mean anything those spaniards want it to. You know what FOOTBALL is. Football is the game played with hands, why? Cause that's what we say it is!

Football is the best game in the world. Actually, since the rest of the world doesn't play it (YET!), it's merely the best game in the world that only the US plays. Futbol is a damn good game in it's own right.

My Irish friend turned me onto futbol by making me watch World Cups. He also dropped this gem on me which I'll never forget. "Imagine how good the US could be at soccer if ALL their best athletes played soccer?" With that nugget, I've always wondered how good the US could be at soccer if our best athletes played the game. We'd be a hell of a lot better than we are currently, which is pretty damn good.

Either way, FOOTBALL is the best sport going. It used to be basketball in the late 80's early 90's, but NFL is king right now.

I loved playing soccer, baseball, and basketball--and I like to watch them too--but it's really no contest as to what is the best sport to watch, both in person and on TV. American football has no peer. I have watched a lot of televised sports in reaching this conclusion.

It's a beautiful game until the brightest stars act like little bitches when they don't get the calls that they think they deserve. There's nothing worse than seeing a guy writhe around in "pain" trying to draw a call that he'll never get. Futbol could be an even better game without the acting. Basketball has that problem now too. I love seeing guys get the stretcher out and then waiting on the sideline to try and get back in at the next stoppage. They've gotta curb that crap for the betterment of the game.

The arrogance/ignorance.

So the point that if our best athletes focused on soccer rather than other sports that we'd be better than we are now? How can you argue that?

And arrogance/ignornace from an American you should come to expect ;)

Oh my god @ the people bashing football (soccer). :lol

Football is by far the coolest sport that has ever graced this earth. There is nothing, (NOTHING) more exhilarating than a perfect soccer play with the ball ending in the back of the net, contrary to what ESPN's 100 moments are trying to make you believe. There's nothing more exciting than wondering what the player's next move's gonna be, especially when he pulls it off. Every player has his strengths/weaknesses. Every position is extremely interesting to follow. And there's never a shortage of football happening in the world, what with all the leagues and cups throughout the years.

Nothing ever happens in football? Jeebus. It never stops happening in football, that's the point and that's why it's the best sport ever. It NEVER stops happening. There doesn't have to be a goal to showcase skill. Once you learn that, you will learn how to correctly enjoy football and see it for what a great sport it is. Then you'll be able to appreciate the matches more. I could just watch players smack the ball around for all I care without even a match going on, and I'd still be mesmerized by how the ball sticks to some of them like Velcro. Watching some of these players is something that can only be described as enchanting. Out of all the sports, football skill is the most entertaining to watch. There's no other sport that has this amount of adrenaline pumping through it.

And that's not even counting the excitement when there's a goal. I don't believe there's any sport on earth that gives such a rush when a point is scored. A soccer goal during the world cup final cannot be compared to anything. Period.

Most countries that are good at soccer/futbol aren't good in baseball. The US is. They aren't good in basketball, while the US is. They aren't good in hockey, while the US is.

Where is Canada's soccer team?

Brazil's baseball team?

Italy's basketball...wait...that's not a good example :D

My point is, the US has so many sports in which it competes, I don't see how anyone could argue that if ALL of the US athletes were funneled into soccer first that we wouldn't be one of the best. Obviously soccer is on a much lower rung in the US when compared to football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and table tennis, and as such, our best "potential soccer" players don't play kickball past 4th grade. That said, we're still top ten in the world, not bad when it's an afterthought in the home country.

That's a post I can agree with, even as a neophyte futbol fan. Too bad the US decides to take a commercial right when that goal happens. There's nothing more tense in sports than a half of futbol uninterrupted. The game is fast, has action unrelating to scoring (i.e. field position), and has great plays.

That said, it's still no Football. I'll give it #2 though.
