Is there anything that Xbox could do to get you as a new or returning customer?

No. They don't have the hardware and they don't have the software (particularly if we're talking exclusives, which do not exist anymore). It is a categorically useless brand to me.

In the last 5 years, I have spent more on games for the OG Xbox than I have on their actual active platforms, and had a lot more fun with that console.

They already have me as a customer since they put their games on Windows and Steam.
If they'd stop doing that I would probably get some Xbox console to play some 5 or so games I'd be interested in at some point. Not day-1 though.

I wouldn't mind if they explored PC emulation of their older titles, make everything portable to PC, create some better assurance that the brand is purely platform agnostic and people wouldn't lose collections if they decided to randomly pull out of console hardware.

The sudden spike in Gamepass is making everyone vested in it jittery on the brand.

Also buy Valve, if you're uncharismatic, just buy everything. That could work too. Lobby for anti gambling in gaming, that would pressure Valve to sell.

Also flood the web with xbot AI agents, take back control of the narratives. Capitalize on your parent company's investment in the tech. Don't just roll over, fight dirty too.

A new Xbox with a significant CPU and GPU upgrade, and the ability to use the Steam Store in addition to the Xbox Store. Plus, the ability (like with the Steam Deck) to see whether Steam games are compatible with the new Xbox.

Then I'd be back on board.

Lost Odyssey 2 or a Scalebound revival, neither of which are happening while Spencer is anywhere near the brand, and both of which would probably come to PS5 anyway

So no

Sure! Scrap gamepass, release dedicated hardware similar to Xbox 360, with physical media support. Stop releasing everything on PC and bring back true console exclusives. Also, price the console reasonably. No handheld shit. Fire Phil and start caring about games again.

So realistically, no of course that will never ever happen.

They will always have me as customer, considering studios they have.

I will see how their next hardware is, if its easy to buy, if its good value (rtx 5080 equivalent for $800, anyone?).

If its works out, I will surely get their console. Series systems are very high quality, get 120 fps / VRR support on system level, tons of pro controller options. Its a VERY solid system.

I've been with Xbox ever since the first one basically became the Dreamcast 2. Always been a happy customer, got more games than I'll ever be able to play in my lifetime.

But haters gonna hate 🤷‍♂️

Not one single thing, the og Xbox and 360 crew are obviously gone and been replaced by whatever and whoever and their decisions have turned me totally off the brand.
They could disappear for all I care.

I would try a GP tier that is only ad financed. I am content with Plus Premium, but checking the few remaining MS exclusives is something I would not want to pay extra for, but I could live with having to watch some ads at startup and check Halo MCC e.g. On PC, which is then an Xbox I suppose?

They had everything to do it and didn't, what makes you think it will be different? It's not the first time either with them. Create quality product, come firing on all cylinders and then just shit on it until it dies. Happened with Zune, Windows Phone, Xbox, Surface they quickly gave up on the non pro line. I just don't get it.

This gen they bought a lot of development studios, everyone was hoping they would, *gasp, develop something. Hell no, they put a car game dev working on one of the most established franchises they had, killed the only dev they owned that were somehow reliable (turn 10). I always liked Ms and their products but they have this tendency to let things fester for a long time, don't adress the problems, throw more money at it and when it dies it dies.

Nah.

Now that I've seen what their true game plan is with the gaming industry I'll never support them by buying their products. They don't give a shit about gaming, they just want to turn us into Cloud subscribers they can milk like with all their other services. No matter how many times they do a reset at Xbox they are never going to abandon their real strategy of turning us into milked subscribers that rent games for eternity that we will never own.
As someone who collected physical games Xbox One was the end for me. The above quoted gets it: MS is always going to be a cloud service company. The margin dictates the plan.

For the rest of the industry without exclusives, nobody is going to return.

Now… long shot for me is a good Linux store for games but that is a reputation that must be earned. Steam earned its reputation and gets my money for PC games. I check out GOG sometimes too. MS has a bad track record for PC storefronts though so I continue to not pay attention to them.

Sure. Go back in time and (1) never do that stupid Gamepass idea, (2) make all of their games exclusive to XBox, (3) make Starfield not suck, (4) release new Fable and Elder Scrolls and have them be games of the year.

That would get me to buy an XBox.

Yes, go back to basics. Way, way back.

I am not interested in an adfront. I am not interested in "everything is an xbox".

In fact, me and many of my fellow oldschool gamers are now, having used and worked with windows for decades, installing linux for gaming in ours, our kids and some of their friends computers.

MS turned the mom and pop store into a japanese brothel street.

Come out with a next gen console in 2027 or 2028 with 5 polished bangers, and not going to PC. Basically the opposite of everything they're doing.

Xbox is dead, lets move on from that bribe and shill paying company. Hopefully don't have to hear and see there obvious organised work on forums anymore…..

They could walk into your house on Christmas morning and piss on your kids and you'd still give them your money.

You're looking at $1000 for an RTX5080 level Xbox btw now that they refuse to sell hardware at a loss.

I have not owned an Xbox since the 360. I don't think there's anything Microsoft can do to bring me back as a regular customer with the exception of remasters of games they had nothing to do with creating.

99% of their games look like washed out cartoon slop. Studios they own only get worse with time. They have never actually made a game that was better than anything that came before it.

And all of this is in addition to Microsoft being literal cancer to any industry they try to enter. We can only hope they never attempt any major incursions into gaming for the foreseeable future.

Go back to work on backwards compatibility. There are so many games that i wanted to play when I got my series x (first xbox console I ever owned) that were not playable. I would go into a retro store and see all these OG Xbox games and X360 games that I wanted to play, nope, only a couple dozen were playable. Especially for the og xbox. Really that shouldn't of been the case, its old hardware. They just don't want to pay for licensing or what not.
Also some games work on disc and were removed from the store, why?

Microsoft made a big push around 2018 or so saying they were the champions of backwards compatibility, then once the Act/bliz deal went through they said f off. Next thing you know, delisting of multiple splinter cell, bad company games, mortal Kombat 9, silent hill downpour, skate 2, and tons of 360 arcade stuff. The delisting is what i don't understand. You put it on the store to sell and now you aren't. Why not work to get any issues resolved.

Then Phil flat out says the backwards compatibility program is over. No more games will be added and no more work will be done.
So It was a big lure. I am glad I got my series x for free.

I know most don't care about old games, but I do. I love the janky older games, yes i prefer Nightdive and other studio remasters (currently playing enclave hd on switch), but if those aren't around it's nice to have the originals.

As for original games, go back to original xbox and pc roots. Bring back Freelancer, Black and White, re-instate Lionhead to make that and Fable in the classic sense.
Make more racing games other than horizon. How about a burnout type game with Rock and metal (i know kids today think that is lame , they don't know shit as racing needs this type of music)

Re-invigorate the single player fps , with multiplayer mode, no gaas.
Make fable great again and make the protagonist normal or good looking
Stop injecting woke politics.

The Series X will be my last Xbox console but if they just make good games for PC/other consoles I will consider purchasing them.

Phil and the team are idiots. Not only did they destroy the Xbox brand, they may have done irreparable damage to the industry. I hope that whatever shit hardware strategy they are working on fails quickly so that people can move on once and for all. Full Steam ahead.

You are loosing it. Getting hysterical over a price increase. Step back, relax, look at it as a product from unknown company, see how much value it offers. Then attach xbox label.

$1000 for 5080 level hardware is also good value. It will be competing with RTX 6XXX cards. It will have to compete well there.

The answer is so simple.

Yes. They need to have exclusive games that I can't play elsewhere. Software sells hardware. Fifteen years of struggling and they don't understand this.

1.)Have exclusive games that I cannot find anywhere else, that are good.

2.)Kill off all ties with PC gaming. You are a console manufacturer, act like it.

3.)Priority to Xbox users. Crossplay is automatically off, and the owner isn't punished for not wanting to play with other console users, or heaven forbid, PC players. If the user wants to play with other players, they can turn it on, with on obvious button, on the main dash, not hidden in 15 sub menus.

4.)For the next Xbox, include two controllers, one of which is an elite, and a free game, as a way of apologizing for making me switch to Playstation, and their horrific controllers.

In other words, they've got no shot, and ill enjoy watching the XBOX brand fade into obscurity, alongside colecovision.

Buy the consoles?
I very much doubt Ill be buying another Xbox console any time soon.

For their games......I still buy(Gamepass) their games.
So keep doing what they are doing I guess.

The only way I see this happening is if their next machine is basically an xbox branded pre built PC, with standard parts I can upgrade in the future, and for an attractive price. Like a bit more expensive than building it yourself in the US, which would still be cheaper than buying the parts with the inflated prices in my country.

What they would have to do would probably take them too long before they could recover but
Basically something similar to 360 without the console breaking of course

Bring back real exclusive games that are either timed or permanent not even coming to pc (I have a good pc so if the games come it I have no reason to buy it on Xbox)

Get major Japanese exclusives like when they got sakaguchi to make new exclusive IPs for Xbox, do more of that plus double

Stop trying to bring back halo and come out with a new ip that could be just as big or bigger and don't cancel it before it releases

If I had any faith that they would stay in console market (I don't), I would likely buy a Series X as it is. An updated controller and dropping the online paywall would be nice though.

Anything? I guess if they bought Nintendo and had all Nintendo IP as Xbox exclusives on a new console, that would do it. I wouldn't be happy about it.

But otherwise, no. And the above is infinitesimally unlikely.

Get SEGA to make an Xbox console/PC box, with a completely custom SEGA frontend, with a SEGA console design for the box & controllers, pre-installed Genesis/CD/32X/Master System/Saturn/Dreamcast/System 32/Model 1/2/3 emulators, and let SEGA make whatever changes to Windows they want to optimize performance.

That's really kind of the only way forward with them, for me.

No.

My digital library is locked in on PSN and Steam.

The only thing keeping me holding onto my Series S is Halo MCC.

How are they going to sell RTX5080 level hardware for $1000? That's like a console subsidized price in itself. The card alone is like $1k on the low/deal end. You know, without the CPU, RAM or anything else.

A PS5 Pro equivalent card costs a third that amount! I tell ya, I don't see it happening.gif

There is a lot of math I have done and came to this conclusion. It will be 5080 level and will cost $999.

Its power level is known to be 5080 ballpark. Phil Spencer has said $999 consoles will not grow market. So that price tag is correct.

It will be launching alongside 6XXX cards. Likely will perform similar to 6070ti. That gives it breathing room to add other components.

I'm willing to buy an sX once they're hitting a fire sale under $150 to have for BC and emulation, but that's about it..

1. Banjo
2. Resurrect the cancelled PD project
3. Lean hard into Xbox/360 nostalgia
4. Release hardware that has something compelling about it that is unique that I won't find on the PS6
5. Leverage 1st party titles in a productive way even though it's clear they won't be exclusive

Essentially reverse the last 9 years of decisions.
-Real console exclusivity with no Play Anywhere
-Drop the emphasis on Game Pass
-Drop in BC with full library. Not the selective BC we have now.

Two decisions they will never make, and one which is most likely impossible so I'm out for good I think.

As a minimalist it's for the best anyways.

Hmm. Phil said that $999 consoles won't grow market. And plans to release a system with no intention of growing the market.

I have to admit, that's pretty good math in support of 999.

Seriously though, 4080 won't cost you much less than a 5080 even now, so I'm not sure how 60 coming out is supposed to save us.
