Is this article describing you?

Professional damage control is so lame. He just can't stand the heat when he posts his biased reviews, so he has to resort to pseudo stereotyping logic, which could just as easily be turned on him!

who wrote that?

i wanna buy him a drink. (we all know gamespot does not have female editors ;)

Innovation is what it's called when your console has a unique feature. Otherwise, it's called a gimmick.

It makes perfect sense to insult a company's lineup one moment and at the same time hope that company will go third party and develop for your console the next.

A sequel on another console is a "rehash," while a sequel on your console is not; in fact, it's highly anticipated.

Too true!

Misguided effort imo.

A noble one though I guess. A lot of it is spot on. But I don't think people will change at the whim of one article. And what.. GS editors are infallable?

haha...gamespot actually put their chronic xbox hate on hold to write something that perfectly describes Gaming-Age, IGN Boards, GameFAQs, and a million other game-related forums

That's the beauty of being a SEGA fanboy..

When they had their consoles, they were obviously the best consoles in existance (no questions asked and i don't need to demonstrate why is that).. now, that they don't have a console on the market anymore, they make games for all plataforms! (yeah, shitty games, but still, they're sega!)

Best of both worlds...

Now gimme Dreamcast2

I think this kindof falls flat as humor, but most of it is pretty spot on. If you ask me, Gamespot is more jaded than they are biased, and they're more critical than they are jaded. Gamespot is biased against your favorite console because they have critical reviews against ALL systems. The difference is fanboys only notice when they rate the particular game they are looking forward to "low". I've found gamespot to be the single most trustworthy review site on the internet time and time again, and if I were say I have ANY system preference it would be towards Xbox.

Imagine that...I lean towards the Xbox, yet Gamespot is my favorite review site....

There have been instances I have disagreed with them, yes, but I find that their reviews are generally spot on in most cases. They're never so far off that I can't simply chalk it up to differing tastes.

It just seems like a way to defend their scores, but a lot of it is true

(I remember the uproar when halo 2 got only a 9.2 from gamespot)

Their shit withstands the test of time. IGN rates on current hype. I say that because its true. Only beef with GS is that they change their scores due to bitching. However, the bitched game scores were always better with the original score (Shenmue - 6.8)

Yeah, it's great to be lectured about your preferences by a group of folks with access to courtesy / review copies of the latest games, and god knows what other wonderful perks (complimentary hardware, etc.). Keep on truckin'.

But hey - it panders to the consumer whore sensibility, so it must be true! Don't stop to think of the impact on your wallet.

The One Console Future is inevitable. ^_^

Exactly.

Let these fuckers go damn near bankrupt if they had to spend their own money to own 3 consoles and a high end PC and all the latest games, and then come lecture me about being a fanboy.

Unless you're getting your shit free.. hello Gamespot, hardly anyone has 2k a month, 4k during holiday season to shell out for all the latest everything. Some of us have to make choices.

Funny how some people seem insulted by reading that here. lol

wonder why they might feel that way.

Good read, thanx for sharing, got some laughs out of it for sure.

We have four female editors, since you're keeping count. Does it matter?

EDIT: Also, mods, aren't there rules here against cross-posting articles verbatim? A link to the actual article wouldn't have killed the original poster, and would have given the rest of you a little bit of context.

It's a stupid article, and all it does is point out a Human charactoristic; Loyalty.

People have displayed this for eons, and it will never change. Every single person alive on this planet has a natural bias twords one thing or another;

Religion, Nations, Ideals, News, Politics, States, Sports teams, Cars, Foods, and yes, even Videogame Manufactures, and developers. Does it make me a "fanboy" of Christianity becuase I believe in God? Does it make me a "fanboy" of Nike sneakers becuase I think they are the best shoe on earth, and refuse to put a pair of "Crap-boks" on my feet?

No, it's what I'm used to. I First played videogames on an Odessy 2, and then started playing a NES. I have a BIAS twords them becuase they got me started, and have provided me with countless hours of entertainment, with arguably the best games ever to be created.

Therefor, I am loyal. It's that simple. Do i NEVER play other games, form other console, or PC game makers? Of course not. But, I will always look to Nintendo first, and in some ways defend them when they get kicked when they are down. People do it with everything.

Thanks for pointing that out Gamespot. I mean, where would I be without your fantastic gift for pointing out the obvious?

I would kind of suck, if everyone liked everything, wouldn't it?

Some of us have to make choices.

So you choice is either to drop all of that money, or be a fanboy?

"Wow I can't afford all of these excellent games, so I am just going to say how much these games suck and try and piss all over them!"

Way to logically think things out there.

The point I got from the editorial is simply that you shouldn't rag on a game if it is coming out on a system you don't have just because it is coming out on a system you don't have. It's pointless, and its something a fanboy would do.

Believe it or not there is a super secret third choice here!

Enjoy the fact that good games are coming out for all systems! Look forward to a possible port, look forward to maybe picking up those excellent games you missed out on next generation when they are cheap and used. ENJOY BEING A FUCKING GAMER, not some fucking coporate shill.

Now, this may not apply to you excatly, I don't know you, but come on.. you have to make a choice? I sure as hell hope its not a black and white choice to you.

I read it and it felt like it described almost every gamer I know. It's a good thing that I'm a completely impartial gamer without any biases or leanings clouding my vision.

...

Go Nintendogs!

You must realize, that some companies are evil, and some are inherently good. Some companies do it for the money, others do it... so, well, you can brag about them.

That one is my favorite. With MS, Nintendo and Sony it's like you have CBS, NBC and ABC, and yet people still actually try to tell you that some of them are in it for nothing but the money while some just want to create good games. It is by far the most naive sentiment in gaming.

Yeah, but once you've made that choice it doesn't mean you have to go blind to everything else.

Loyalty to a corporate entity is as puerile as it is stupid. This characteristic should be reserved for friends, family, and loved ones, not name brands. Like an individual or team's work? Fine. Loyalty to a copyright? Misguided.

A game that is scored less than a 9.5 on any platform you don't own is called a flop. If it does achieve that score, it's called overrated. (According to the GameSpot rating system, a game rated 8 or above is "great," but we all know that it really means "flop.")

It makes perfect sense to insult a company's lineup one moment and at the same time hope that company will go third party and develop for your console the next.
too true! While i believe even game reviewers have a bit of bias in them, these are great! :lol

(sorry about the double post, how do I delete it?)

I read this last night at like 2 AM , great article. I agree with every word of it and I'm suprised it wasn't done sooner on a major website. It's my firm belief at this moment that anyone who disagrees with what this article says or critisizes it harshly would obviously answer YES to the question posed in this threads title.

On the other hand though the internet would be pretty damn boring without fanboys frothing at the mouth. It's kind of a take the bad with the good or don't bother at all sort of thing.

I might add that a 1 console future at this point is basically impossible, if it did happen you can bet that games would cost 20-30 dollars more and the system wold never go down in price , nor would it be upgraded every 5 years. You'd have a single system for 400 USD that would get replaced after like 8 years with another 400 USD console. Yeah that's so much better then paying 99-299 USD over 4-5 years and 40-60 USD for games that have to compete with other systems so quality is improved... yeah so much better.. :P

Yeah pretty much. Fanboys are all retarded despite the platform for which they champion. Seems to be a fairly accurate portrayl of the wonderful thing that is the fanboy mentality. No gamer is 100% unbiased but that doesn't bean you have to delve into the depths of the fanboy realm.

There's no difference... but you can keep telling yourself there is between your family and a corporation.
