Is This The GOAT Collection?

Bang average which is why many of those went on to define gaming for the next decade, hmmm.

A few are classics, yes. I agree. However, you're calling this a GOAT list with Spore, HellGate and C&C3, plus without many of the best PC games of all time.

It's an average list.

The list fucking DEFINED an era (7th gen to current) of gaming.

Obviously, not all were successful or made an impact, but a good amount did.

How is that average?

I prefer my PC GOATs a little older.

Much better than whatever TC posted.

Only if you like FPS games

If you don't then it's shite.

Sorry, you asked us, don't get pissy when we disagree.
TC can't accept that his list is shit, seen a lot of these types back in gamefaqs where they'll post a list and then get triggered if people don't agree with their list. The truth hurts but if they can't handle it then they shouldn't be posting their list in the first place especially if they've average. And this is coming from someone like me who does like FPS games and also not a big Nintendo fan either.

Give me a list of 10 "great" games, so I can laugh.

This is a good list, no doubt.

My list defined modern gaming, your list doesn't.

Calm yourself, lol.

You are claiming this list is GOAT, which means Greatest Of All Time. Not an era, but all time.

Also, even if we're talking about this era, the list still isn't GOAT. Spore? HellGate? No.

We're also missing a lot of real classics from the 2000s. A lot.

Average.

It defined the modern era (Gen 7 to current).

So we've gone from GOAT to Gen 7 only. Talk about moving the goalposts.

Even then we're missing some classics from that era and have some duds.
Even your precious N64 had duds.

The quality of these games surpasses a majority, that came before it.

Gaming went from a "nerdy" thing to something that became mainstream to talk about.

PS1 did that

Your collection is nearly a snapshot of the mid-late 00s in PC where FPS games were most prominant

It's no more important than any other era in gaming.

Who mentioned the N64?

No. 100% disagree with that. A majority of PC games that came before this list are better by a country mile.

PS1 took gaming to the mainstream.
There amount of inaccuracies in your post is too numerous, I'll take a shot at the PS1 mention.

The PS1 did not make gaming mainstream.

Gaming truly went mainstream in the 7th gen.

How old are you?

Who defines where the modern era starts?
The modern era started with the Wii (brought casuals in) and 360 with Gears/CoD 4 which brought the dudebros in.

The elements from this time, are still the defining factors of current gaming.

Why is this so difficult to grasp...?

Interesting reads, yes.

PS1 certainly did help, but it wasn't till 7th gen when it became something people of all ages and backgrounds did.

One of the links you posted said...

"According to Glendenning, Sony's marketing efforts, 'Took the age of the average gamer from about 14 to about 23. It made games cool, it made them part of popular youth culture – people were no longer embarrassed to admit they played them.'"

Gen 7 is where legitimately everyone one from Grandparents (Wii Sports) to the Dudebros (CoD 4) were playing games.

And real life social interactions and encounters.

LOL.

We've gone from claiming your posted list is the "GOAT", to then moving to it being the best Gen 7 list (It isn't), to now bringing up Wii Sports to back up your argument!

The goalposts have been moved so much I'm not even sure you know what you're arguing for anymore.

The point is, my list in the big picture is among the best for ushering in gaming in the modern era.

Yes, are other list potentially better games wise?

Perhaps, but they weren't the key players in making gaming what it is today.

And yes, we're going off tangent for sure.

😂

And how does it usher in the modern era more than any other generation did?
Because the games had the production values and visuals the mainstream audience, deemed acceptable.

That's why the whole PlayStation cinematic games era blew up.

The average adult person would be embarrassed to play a 16-bit game, in front of other people back then.

Playing CoD 4 and others were considered, cool.

By your own argument even your list fails to do that. I don't even know why we're talking about Wii Sports when your list is PC. Are we just talking Gen 7 in general? If so your list is missing a hell of a lot of amazing Gen 7 games.

How did Mass Effect or Assassin's Creed usher gaming into the modern Era? How does this make your list "GOAT", which as a reminder means the greatest of all time.

You have Counter Strike Source on your list, but no Half-Life 2? Not even the Orange Box that had Portal.

Many games from the 7th gen have aged poorly visually.

Too many games that attempted to look realistic have aged a lot worse than the previous gen.

And don't get me started on nearly every game having piss filter.

Even if they did have poorly, the general public considered them good enough at the time.

It was the time of HD graphics, and semi-real visuals taking off.

Mass Effect and AC for example advanced gaming from a production standpoint (the former) and an open world one (the latter) as well.

Obviously, there are more games than just those.

Also, I had Orange Box on Steam (digital).

And the previous gen didn't advance the production?

It was a far bigger leap than 7th gen was

I'm guessing your about 30 and 7th gen was when you came of age.

MGS 2/3 obviously had good production values.

Gen 7 incorporated that cinematic experience IN to the game, rather than being something you watched.
