Is traditional 2D Animation (cartoons/film) a dead art? (In the West particularly)

I'm still waiting for the 2D adult animation movement to expand to cinema. I think it might happen eventually when all the people who grew up on those cartoons become animators for film studios.

Well yeah, it seems that the only "caveat" to have "adult 2D cartoons" is that they have to be Comedy or Crude/Toilet Humor shows. But I guess it's part of the model that works for budgetary animation and cheap talent.

Some of these adult humor shows actually have beautiful animation, such as Superjail from what I hear, but they typically use it for grotesque stuff.

There was that Aqua Teens Hunger Force movie that aired in theaters.

Just check out any of the Cuphead gifs. There's still cool animation being done in North America if you know where to look.

Yep, as I said I've been waiting decades for such a thing that is not a Comedy/Crude Humor project.

I suppose I need to accept that it will never happen :(

No one, let alone any film studio, will invest in a project that doesn't cater to kids, with no Toy Lines to monetize and with TV ad revenue in the toilet and moviegoers of the mindset that animation = kid/family stuff
