Isn't it f'ed up that we don't have any new Bioshock games?

The first two games were both amazing, and easily one of the better titles made during the 7th gen. Then Infinite came out, and we don't talk about Infinite.

It has been TWELVE YEARS since the last Bioshock was released. 12 god damn years. This is unacceptable. This IP is way too good to just shelve and sit on.

What could be the reason that they haven't made one? Levine left, OK, find another person, no big deal, it's not like they're an indie studio. I am so desperate for one that i would even take Infinite 2 at this point ffs. Could look so damn good on UE5 (also run at 19fps while stuttering).

I think Infinite didn't do as well as expected for the budget. It spooked them regarding the IP.

Stuck in the past, begging for a sequel no matter who makes it.

This is why we have:

bad movies endless trash GIF

A man plays something new, a slave begs for membaberry sequels.

Infinite was kinda poop in hindsight. Part of the draw of the original was the setting, the creepiness, the eugenics shit, etc. I did not give a fuck about any of the characters in Infinite. The series needs to go back underwater or at least find a parallel environment. The rumored Antarctic setting for the next one sounds promising. Not sure what's taking so fucking long, though.

They could even do some kind of Island of Dr. Moreau type of shit on some isolated island and it would probably hit. Just have some crazy rich asshole trying to make a superhuman species resort that descends into chaos and I'm in.

This franchise can have so many settings. I mean shit, would be amazing if the next game was on the moon or in space. The Antarctic is a good idea, though.

Agreed. They just need to be thoughtful about it - that utopia in the sky shit was lame. The moon would be cool, imagine some kind of weird secret base under the moon's surface where all kinds of fucked experiments are going on with all kinds of weird stuff they've found out in space. Hell yeah.

Was it confirmed somehwere? Cuz i remember the game being very popular when it came out. Polarizing like TLOU2 and ME3, but still very popular, and everyone was playing it.
You're right, it was never really confirmed either way. I think it was like an Uncharted 4 situation where we never really knew how commercially successful the last entry was but the IP sort of just stopped with a high budget game some loved and some others didn't.

If creator has left, it won't be the same thing.

I think they are ok, not missing them.

Though would love a new System Shock game from those that made Prey. AA effort would be fine.

Aren't they working on a new Bioshock game? or was that canceled?
It is. Cloud Chamber is confirmed to work on the next BioShock game. The studio has some of the devs who worked on previous BioShock games

Infinite did well actually, it was the best-selling BioShock game up to date. The reason why Irrational was closed was because of Ken Levine's behind the scenes deals with Take-Two. He wanted to work with a smaller team and made a deal to move only a fracture of the staff to his next project. This deal backfired as Take-Two wasn't interested in keeping the remaining staff and decided to shut down Irrational, while keeping only Levine and his smaller team

Why do we NEED a new Bioshock game?

It will come out, everyone will talk about how it's missing something, and eventually that will turn into how it's shit.
Then Infinite came out, and we don't talk about Infinite.
Case and point. Infinite was a fine game. Built on the premise of Bioshock while trying to move it forward. And now you want to dismiss it despite being a good game (albeit, out at the wrong time - same as Resistance 3)

There's been a few games inspired by Bioshock. That's what we need. Remixes and evolutions on the formula. There's more coming, including Judas from Ken Levin's new studio - that'll be the spiritual successor. Not something named Bioshock.

No thanks.

The original devs are long gone, the magic was lightning in a bottle, and now we're pretending a new entry from a totally different studio is gospel just because it says BioShock on the box? Come on.

Don't care, just give it to me, and i'll judge for myself. Don't introduce any virtue signaling, tho.

It wasn't a good game because it wasn't Bioshock. Infinite was a shooter, while the first two games were immersive sim'ish. Infinte has also completely lost the dark vibe the first two had, and that's not what i want to see from Bioshock.

Some real revisionist history with Infinite in recent years, but that aside, it sold 11 million copies and is the best selling game in the franchise, so that ain't it.

I don't know about Judas. I trust Levine to deliver, but this twitter/social media/content creators whatever the fuck setting they have going is not appealing at all.
Only Bioshock 1 will ever have the charm of the setting. Once is done you either repeat it, loosing its uniqueness, or you try to match it, but loosing the novelty. It's a pity Levine wasted that on a walking simulator.

We're basically getting a new entry with Levine under a different name, 'Judas.' Hopefully it actually comes out soon cuz he definitely takes his sweet time.

I liked Bio2 as much as i liked the first game. Sure it didn't feel as special, but what sequel does? All they need to do with Bioshock 4 is to create a new unique setting with great atmosphere, and to make it as much as an immersive sim as possible instead of creating a run n gun call of duty bs.

First 2 were really good and pretty special, the 3rd not so much. Sometimes you need to know when to stop. This is why I really respect the creator/director of Back to the Futurte trilogy. As long as he is alive there will be no 4th installment, spinoffs or remakes.

The 3 we have are magic though. Judas is coming……..hopefully. Not sure how I feel about it as it's been so long since we heard anything about it.

Infinite was one of the most overrated games of all time.

I mean, it simply does what most of the modern slop did. Linear progression, weapon limit, enemy funnels, only 2 powers to carry. I beat it once, it was kind of fun, but I never bothered to do it again. Bioshock I beat multiple times, combining different powers, focusing on different builds.

System Shock and Prey are even better, they offer more freedom in terms of the map.

I've bought it 3 times at full price cause it's worth every $ I spend on this game. Probably a more common problem than we may think like gamers just don't pay the full price as they used to in the past.

Infinite was great.

That aside, they are working on a new one. I feel like it's in some development hell tho, as there was rumours so so many years ago. Guess it's par the course for bioshock, but at least we know now it wasn't just its creator that was the cause of dev hell 🤣

He left to step away from the hell of and inefficiencies of Aaa, completely closed the studio, so the whole thing was cast to the wind, which would have complicated efforts vs if the studio was still intact.

He's been working on Judas tho, which looks great and just looks like a spiritual successor to bioshock anyhow.
