1) Stop downloading stuff illegally.
2) see above.

At this point you've been caught. It looks like they're just sending you your one and only warning before they terminate your account. If you get caught again, you'll probably lose your internet.

Also, since you've been caught, you're probably more likely to get sued if you get caught by the MPAA again.

1) Peerguardian doesn't do anything useful
2) Firewalls prevent WORMS and HACKERS, not the RIAA/MPAA
2a)P2P apps specifically invite people to connect to you, so a firewall would not have done ANYTHING
3)You're using public networks to download a recently released DVD. That's STUPID.
Movies in theatres, movies just released on dvd and HBO shows are all prime targets for C&D letters.

Stop being a pirate, you'd be surprised how much more gratifying it is.

Shit law or not, if you want to live in media rich sex land, you're going to have to deal with it.

We'll see. I can see the thing being slowly dismantled over the next 50 years. Same fate for The Patriot act.

Now see if you had d/l'ed Commando you would've gotten mad accolades and Governor Schwarzennegger coming to your house in a chopper yelling at you to get to da choppa and you would be flying above the city right now drinking Vault energy drinks and shooting middle school Catholic students with paintball guns as they run into the museum on a tour.

But you decided to get 16 Blocks.

WAY TO GO.

You got caught for sharing the data, not downloading.

Download software like PeerGuardian, use a firewall... And more importantly, try and limit your sharing activity.

Lost all credibility.
This just reminded me. I went to my official roadrunner email account that i never check and set mail forwarding to my gmail account. The thought of getting one of these from your ISP and not even knowing is pretty scary.

I got caught doing the same shit, but with bitorrent. Stopped downloading anything for a month, but eventually went back into it and nothing so far.

Avoid downloading new movie releases and only get new music from people you know or places you are familiar with.

Are you pretty much safe if you're not sharing anything?

That's the worst thing you can do. You'll stick out like a sore a thumb and be the first person they come after.

...

Okay, since I don't really follow this stuff, here's a question.

If you own the movie 16 Blocks, is it legal to download it? I mean, you've already paid for the movie.

Um, 16 Blocks sucked ass. You'll feel like a tool paying a few thousand for that movie. Shit balls, decent DVDs are like 5 bucks everywhere. Go check out Best Buy/CC for some decent, cheap DVDs.

yes. I don't think you're even technically allowed to back it up, but even if that argument was the case, you would have to make a backup from the version you already own. i mean, just because you own a movie doesn't mean you can go into Best Buy and steal another copy.

Right. Your entitled to ONE copy of that movie, you don't have the rights to the movie now.

Meh. I have no interest in downloading movies anyway hope they don't track music ;p.

while I don't condone piracy, the only people they've gone after are those people who are uploading/sharing in some fashion. this includes things like Bittorrent, where you're constantly uploading to other peers, as well as programs like Limewire if you're silly enough to have a share folder enabled.

davepoobond

you can't put a price on sparks
so, what even happens if you get this anyway? is this basically saying "don't do it again, but you can keep what you got or at least get rid of it" kind of thing?

dont they check that as well?
No. They can't. And they can't get rid of Usenet either because of some "partial censoring = claiming responsibility" by ISPs, so they let it run free. And downloading from Usenet isn't leeching.

im a little confused by usenet... why dont people access it through their isp account.. and instead pay money to a 3rd party, like easynews, for access? especially when they seem to have download limits..

also.. whats a good usenet service?

this one:: http://myusenet.net/ seems to have unlimited download limit.

so how come they cant check your usenet usage? is your ip address masked ?

It just depends on how involved you want to be. Easynews and services like that are for lazy asses and I'm proud to say I'm a lazy ass. You don't have to use them but for newbs they are very user friendly and understandable by comparison.
