Why don't you just tell them that you have an open wireless router. Then stupidly ask, "Maybe someone outside the house got on it and was using it for downloading."

im a little confused by usenet... why dont people access it through their isp account.. and instead pay money to a 3rd party, like easynews, for access? especially when they seem to have download limits..

also.. whats a good usenet service?

this one:: http://myusenet.net/ seems to have unlimited download limit.

so how come they cant check your usenet usage? is your ip address masked ?
most isp servers suck...

what's good?
they have some comparisons on various services -> http://newsgroupservers.net/

Tell them to "Beware!"

for added effect, kick in a "I Hunger" and a "Run Coward!" or two. If that doesn't work, use that super-creepy evil laugh of yours. They'll be shitting themselves rather then deal with you, after all, you hunger.

Pretty much.

"There's this kid outside my window...with a laptop. I think he may have haxored my wireless Internets. Also, he's wearing a Linkin Park shirt."

Good thing I don't use eDonkey. A cousin of mine got sued by Paramount for downloading a movie, not sure which one though. Though anybody who downloads a movie is retarded, especially on a P2P.

The moment I'm C&D'ed for downloading Puppet Master 3 and 4 because the distributor stopped printing new DVDs in 2000 is the day I stop using the internets :(

Here is a question.

How do you boys and girls feel about me downloading my Soccer shows that I cant watch over here in Canada?

There are number of English Soccer magazine shows that I enjoy watching, and they have never, and will never be shown in North America...Am I being a naughty boy when I download them?

Seriously! In what world is saving the $9 to pay to see a movie worth how many problems you could have if you get caught. It's not worth it. And from everything in the news it seems like the government/MPAA/film studios are serious about cracking down on people pirating movies, etc. I think there will be stories like the McCausland case as time goes on. I honestly do.

My sister got one of these for downloading Michael Jackson's "You Rock My World" a few years back.

She never stopped downloading, though, and never heard from anybody again.

I got one of those e-mails about two months ago from Comcast for an episode of Dane Cook's Tourgasm (that'll teach me to get better taste in downloading at the least). I got it through BitTorrent and I generally delete the tracker a day after the file finishes. So I played it cool and stopped torrenting for about a month, but I'm back to my usual ways with no more notices. Although I will say that 99% of what I get is music. It looks like TV and movies puts the big red X on your back.

Edonkey? really? I used to use it years ago. I booted it up in August and got this big message aobut how its been shutdown. Checked the website and its gone too. Suprised is all, and yeah DL recent movies with publc p2p is like a bulleye on your head.

You live in Canada. You are in a safe haven beyond the icy reach of the RIAA's jackbooted minions.

I'm surprised Amir0x hasn't posted his story in this thread yet.

Downloading a recent or yet to be released crappy movie will screw you over is the lesson!

The official eDonkey might have been shut down, but the open source (and far superior) eMule is still going strong, and now supports obfuscated connections (whatever that means, I assume it's some kind of encrypted headers so that ISPs can't tell you're using eDonkey network). The main problem with it is that you have to leave your client running for a long time to actually get any files, but this is somewhat counterbalanced by the fact that you're much more likely to find rare or obscure stuff on there than you are on BitTorrent or Usenet.

As for why people pay for Usenet services instead of using their ISP's own usenet server, ISP usenet servers frequently have low completion and retention rates and only a small subset of newsgroups. It used to be that you could find a public news server with decent binary groups, but these have all but disappeared in recent years.

A mate of mine here in Australia got one of those e-mails after he downloaded one of the first episodes of "My Name Is Earl", it freaked him out so much that he didn't download the rest of season for at least a few more weeks. Never even considered stopping the rest of the pirating though...:D

With the amount of stuff he downloads (conservative estimate 110GB a month), mainly TV shows we can't get here like Daily Show, Colbert, Venture Bros. etc., it's amazing that he hasn't received more warnings.

110GB, wtf?
If it is mainly tv shows -- and we say 250MBs per ep -- then that's the data amount for 440 eps a month.

It would be atleast 350mb per ep or 700mb for better quality,

No it wouldn't. Shows like the Daily Show and Colbert and Venture Bros aren't released in HD and tend to be digital rips @ 175 megs a show.

Man.... Canada for the win... Torrents 24/7, no enforced download limit, no MPAA/RIAA power thanks to exceedingly fair politics (I really have no idea why Canada's 'principles' won out over actually powerful entertainment lobbies). The only thing they can do is throttle your torrent traffic... which my ISP isn't even doing :lol
