It appears that Troy Baker is building a game studio

He certainly has a lot of contacts and knowledge about the industry. Dont know whether he knows a lot about actually running a studio, but I mean he is super passionate about games, especially single player games, so let the man cook.

Rather him, than some out of touch business guy who wants to make another live service.

I've seen one interview with Troy and he cried. I think it was TLoU related. That's all I really know of the man outside of his voice work.

Good luck to him.

If so, good luck to him. Running a studio is tough and treacherous but I'm into the idea of creators being more central to ops and management.

Considering his personal views (like his stance on TLoU2) it's a pretty risky decision. It's different than just voicing or playing a character written and funded by someone else.

well, well well. My nigga!!!

I jokingly asked this exact question when I met him at Comic Con a while back :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Troy is such a nice dude in person. He signed a bunch of shit for me and my wife, had a coffee with us, we talked a ton about comics, movies and games. He gave us the time man and I respect that, hundreds of people per day coming at you.

Yep, dude's a total asshat. He didn't even have the balls to stick to his stance or apologize when it pretty much turned out Guy was right all along.
That's just who Baker is. Don't forget that he was also incredible belittling to Nolan North, causing their Let's Play YouTube channel to crumble, severing their friendship for several years. They're on better terms again, but it takes an impressive level of nastiness to cause someone as famously approachable as Nolan North to stop wanting to be your friend.

And then there's the time he scammed his fans out of money to fund his new album. An album that was supposed to be released in June, 2017, but never did. Didn't stop him from pocketing all of the donations though.

Bottom line is that Baker is an arrogant cunt who forgets that he's little more than a glorified court jester.

Made even more funny in that Guy was sticking up for voice actor rights as a whole and that's not even the field he is in. Even with Troy sucking off Konami, it's still better than the shit Mary Sunderland spewed.

Eh.
Unless the plan is to make much smaller scale games than Baker is used to, I don't think this is going to work out.

Spinning up "new studios" with the a mashup of the same old talent is exactly what every other dev was trying early this decade. Almost none of it has beared fruit.

How is a voice actor able to bankroll a whole studio, Were they paying him in Bitcoin all these year or something?
He would be pooling together investment capital. Again, he's about 5 years late to the party. Probably why he's suffering the same air as Greg Miller to broadcast this. So many failures later, I don't see how anyone invests to the required degree in vidya for the rest of the decade. Especially not with a VAs name on the box.

A small studio with less than 8 Devs isn't expensive to set up if that's the route he wants to take (not watched the video so no idea what he has planned, guess id better watch it)

It's really bizarre, the enshittification of people's attitudes that happened from people you previously respected in the 2000s, with that example being an early warning from around 2012, but it got way worse as time went on.

And in particular being a western VA fan was suffering with all that happened later.

What good timing, I mean this is such a great time for the industry in general.

I'm sure it'll be very successful.....

Microsoft is planning to lay off 15% of its studio staff. Maybe he will be able to find a good fit for his upcoming studio there.
