IT'S HAPPENING.gif: Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal is coming to Nintendo 3DS

Well, luckily, unlike Pokemon cards, you can still just play with the classic cards, even in the games.

for better or worst. Some of the starter decks in these games are awful.

It is cool that they still try to keep the more popular 'classics' relevant. I do recall running a decent black magician deck the last time i've played a few years ago.

still play this game from time to time
i can also play it local

recently bought over the nexus for the DS to reintroduce me into the series (havent played since 04) and ended up liking a lot of the new mechanics.

i think a vita version would be great

Nice Konami, nice. Now bring it to the US, and if you're kind enough, release Forbidden Memories and Duelist of the Roses on PSN. I'll give you all my money for this.

F***... YEA ! It was about damn time, I was looking for it since October 2010 and Konami's announcement of a Yu-Gi-Oh! game on 3DS. I really hope it took 3 years to make me shit bricks.

Man, I might pick this up. I haven't played a TCG in like 5 years, but it seems like Yu-Gi-Oh has a bunch of new flashy stuff like these synchro guys or whatever.

My last significant Yu-gi-oh memory is opening a booster pack on my birthday and getting The Creator, which was AWESOME.

I can't believe Zexal is even still airing.

Zexal is actually really popular.

Konami has been doing a good job of making all of the structure decks really good with the newest one being Blue Eyes themed.

I talked to a bunch of YGO players at my LGS. They tell me the current game lasts about 5ish turns (between BOTH PLAYERS), which sounds horrific. Hope this doesn't have that.

Also, will murder some hobos if this isn't localized

Still not as bad as the teledad days

Last one I played was the 5D's era DS game, was pretty fun, even if the story mode was a bit clunky.

I'm looking forward to this. I haven't watched much of Zexal or anything, but the new cards look pretty sweet. Just last weekend, I played against my little nephews and was amazed (in a good way) at all the cool new shit they've put in.

Well, the AI opponents don't use top-tier decks, so the 5-turn thing should only ever happen online (and maybe against the very hardest AI decks). From my experience with WC2011, most people don't use top-tier decks online either. As long as you don't build such a deck yourself, games will last a reasonable number of turns.

just so we're on the same page, we're talking about The Forbidden One, correct?

Has he gone super saiyan?

There's only one Exodia as far as I know (and yes, he will be in the game, considering he's been in every game so far) ;)

And... I guess so? Looks like it from that pic...

What do playable characters do in a card game? Pre-made decks?

It probably means opponents.

Sounds cool! I still have my God Cards from the Japanese GBA version of Stairway to the Destined Duel.

Embarrassingly enough I haven't looked at newer cards since the 10th Anniversary Pack with the new artwork for classic cards signed by the artist. Can somebody explain all the crazy new synchro effects and whatnot?

Synchro and Xyz are similar in concept to the old Fusion Monsters, but they don't require a specific spell card to summon and have looser requirements on materials (most fusions need two specific cards, while Synchro and Xyz mostly work off levels). Basically they're fusions redone to be more playable.

The series is in constant downfall ever since they've finished Yugi Muto as protagonist.
Even the card game, since the inclusion of syncro and xyz monster has become a joke a few years back. =/

I don't know what's going on either, I just know that the main character is named Yuma and that children's card game is pretty serious.

I prefer this look for the character rather than how he normally looks like. Yugioh was part of my childhood, so I will definitely get this game. I still need to get some of the psp games. The Dark Magician will always be my favorite.

I'm still surprised they've never created a game (outside of those arcade machines in Japan) featuring characters from all the series, that'd be radical. They had a good excuse with a tie-in to that crossover film.

I enjoyed the original, have a special place in my heart for GX, and found 5D's to be pretty smooth in the first season. Zexal I kind of, you know, grew out of, but it wasn't horrible from the episodes I watched and I understood it's kind of a show aimed at the kids coming into the series.

Synchros are fusion monsters done right, xyz are ritual monsters done right, They seem odd at first but when you start playing with them you'll realize how much strategy and awesome they add to the game.

You can rag on the dubs all you want, but the later YGO shows in the original Japanese are awesome especially 5Ds. Also Synchro and xyz made the game much better. I can't see how anyone who plays the game could honestly not enjoy having them.

The amount of time I spent with that PS2 game (Battle of the Roses? lol something like that) was really something else. And now that I think about it it seems like forever since I played a Yugioh game. I am really interested in this. Hope its a good game.

Edit: Uhm, what the fuck. What have they turned the anime into? @_@ I am glad I only watched the original now.

Oh god, ZeXal.

Can't wait till the game lets you super saiyan yourself and change your next card you draw into whatever the hell you want.

Don't you dare bad mouth The Heart of the Cards
or whatever it's called in ZeXal?

I'm gonna start watching this again since I don't see many people complaining about it here.

I couldn't bring myself to watch 5d though till this day

maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but I remember from the anime about how they summoned Exodia and the other dude was like "The Forbidden One?!?!" I still laugh at how stupid that is.

5Ds is the best one with the most mature story.

I want these cards so bad. Really nice design.

Duelist of the Roses, actually. I spent a lot of hours playing this one, and after 2 or so years without playing it, I came back and spent even more hours. Just amazing, I would die for a PS2 classic release on PSN. Are you listening, Konami?

You mean Destiny Draw where they can literally create a new card to suit whatever the duel calls for?

Man, I haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh in ages. I have no idea what this synchro and xyz stuff even means. Have the rules changed that much over the years? Do you think this game will have a tutorial or something to explain this new stuff? I'm actually kinda interested in this.

Haven't played a Yu-Gi-Oh since World Championship 2007.

Do they make you go through some BS Story Mode, or can you just make a deck and start jumping into some no-frills online play?

When I got '07, I just wanted something for me and a friend to play together, so we got 2 copies and an Action Replay so we could just unlock every card and jump right into making the decks we wanted without all the anime story mode unlocking fluff.

EDIT: I don't even know what's going on. Last time I really knew what I was doing Spell Cards were still Magic Cards. Now there's Synchro and Tuner monsters? What?

The past games have started you off in story mode with a basic summery of how the game work.

I used to play a lot of the GBA ones, are the rules still the same now ?

I also used to play the PS1 one, if I go back to it now I'll find out it probably sucked. :p

Can I get a Yu-Gi-Oh! game where I put a stack of money on the back of my hand and have to stab it with a knife?

Also is there one where I am playing a Yu-Gi-Oh! game but also F-Zero?

TCGs are a big investment for sure.

To be honest I'm still extremely surprised that Konami/WotC/whoever hasn't made a F2P game with micro-transactions on PC and smartphones. There has to be a lot of money in that.

There actually was an online PC game for yugioh (Yugioh Online). It was basically just as expensive as the REAL card game as you had to buy cards, but of course its more fun because its easier to meet and duel people online than in person. It closed down last year, wasnt really sure why, it took a lot of people by suprise and was upsetting for a lot of people that put a lot of money into their deck...

I hope the 3DS version will fill the void that game left.

How timely of Konami. If the trend that started with GX, and 5Ds holds Zexal should be ending within a year or two.
