I'm kinda hyped.

I have zero expectations, but I heard the writer talk on a video, and he seems to really know his shit. He's as big of a one piece fan as I am. He was literally talking about the latest episodes of the manga, and his theories of what's gonna happen next

As someone who is not into anime outside of the Ghibli films and a few other feature length films (well, maybe five or six of them) should I watch One Piece first or do you guys think it won't matter?
please watch/read one piece its the best story ever written, i would recommend the One Pace version, you can just google it because in the anime they adapt about 1 chapter per episode so it can be pretty slow, this version is a fast paced version of the anime that cuts the filler and the padding

Watch it . The series, the world building, the chars and the foreshadowing is incredible. It is something special..

But if you can you should read the Manga. I don’t think there will be anything like it in the next 20-30 years

@topic: the only thing that keeps my hopes high is that Oda is heavily involved

yup and actually he is the one who wanted to make a live action in the first place, people acting like netflix just threw many and bought the rights. No, Oda is the one interested in doing it. He even said that he prefered to do it now while he still has some energy and is capable of working, he was worried that in a few years he wouldnt be able to be as involved, so he decided to do it now.

Plus he had multiple offers that he rejected until he found the right persons for the job

How are they gonna manage to portray Sea Kings in this? Wonder how much work that will take, because they don’t show up too often but when they do, it’s basically like recreating different versions of monsters the size of Godzilla or larger in the movie business I would think…Wonder how much time, effort, and resources will go into that?

Oda has named the nationalities of the characters if they were in our world and it seems like casting will try to follow that

  • Luffy (Brazil)
  • Zoro (Japan)
  • Nami (Sweden)
  • Usopp (Africa)
  • Sanji (France)
  • Chopper (Canada)
  • Robin (Russia)
  • Franky (America)
  • Brook (Austria)
I do expect they will 100% play down the sexiness of characters though. Which is fine, it mostly wouldn't fit. The only characters who need to be sexy are Nami and Boa

Pick one.

Yeah...I don't see Shonen media like OP or DBZ translating well to live action without a multi-million dollar CGI budget

With Oda’s creativity, it would probably take billions. The Marineford arc for instance, to match that they would need to basically have the special effects of that one apocalyptic film, 2012

There are so many insane panels and scenes in One Piece too

Arcs like Dressrosa, Zou, and Whole Cake Island - I can’t see even the best in the industry coming close to translating those arcs…Each arc in the New World would need, easily, the amount of funding or budget that the LOTR project Amazon is working with
