Iwata explains the reasons of 3DS's price cut; gives it 4 months to resurrect

Where does it say it will be discontinued?
It doesn't. No company would ever say that. You should read the 4 months statement as "we think it will turn around during the next 4 months".

Mario 3d and Luigi's mansion are quite underwhelming imo. You'd expect more gamecube quality at the very least but instead they look a notch above Saturn
So now the 3DS has gone from having graphics on par with the N64 to having graphics comparable to the fucking Saturn.

This is what the quality of discussion on this forum has come to.

I expect deadpan comparisons to the NES at this rate.

Saturn had a ton of power. But I think he was talking about Dreamcast, which is true as far as geometry goes the 3DS mostly reminds me of the Dreamcast.
I'd say a step down from PS2, but a step above DC. Mercenaries 3D vs Code: Veronica is a noticable jump, nevermind Revelations.

Seriously.
Making stupid comparisons like this should be banned from discussion.
It adds nothing to the topic and completely derails everyone.

I don't know what to say about this thread. It's terrible, and I had seen some of the people complaining in other threads about some of the posters in here but I had no clue it was this bad. Saturn really? Really?

Look at how many characters there are on screen in both games. It obviously means the 3DS can't render any more than the Saturn.

...

I'm obviously kidding, but with some posts around here I guess I'd better spell it out.
Uhm, isn't that second picture a bullshot?
Yep, it's a bullshot. DoA looks pretty nice, though.

I think so, but in this case it actually doesn't matter. There's no frickin' way ever that Saturn games like VF2 look remotely comparable to DOA:D, so even though a real shot should have been posted, the point stands.

I believe so. The actual game looks like this:

So still nowhere near Saturn level
psh looks like virtual fighter 1

The overall visuals of DOA Dimensions in motion are close to DOA4 on Xbox 360. It's not as high res, obviously, but the effect is nearly the same.

The 3DS is a powerful console in its own way. Pessimism over its graphics is a myth owing to:

-Poor launch window effort (ie Ridge Racer)
-Simplistic "Mii/WiiSports" Nintendo style graphics as in PilotWings Resort.
-Literal N64 ports.

It can pull off reasonable facsimiles of modern HD console graphics (at lower res, of course). This "near Saturn" stuff is insane.

Having played the game, even if it is a bullshot, it's very close to what the actual game looks like. DOA:D is like butter.

But you have to look at it on the actual system, not online screens.

Ohhh god..... we are still in dinosour age of thinking ....!!!!!

still people see zelda and resident evil R as 64 game !!!!!

I remember the first year of 360 call of duty 2 hd and cameo .

And then we see GOW & lost planet.

I think we should give 3ds time .

Yep.

I love Ridge Racer on the 3DS too but man... the game doesn't look all that great. Looks in between an N64 game and an early PS2 game graphics wise.

Er...by "nowhere near Saturn level" I meant "nowhere near that bad"

I didn't mean you. It was in reference to the poster who actually did compare 3DS to Saturn graphics.

Like most 3DS games, it'll likely have AA when 3D is off.
I would also like more AA with 3D on!

Zelda is heartbreaking because it does look really good with 3D off, but I also feel you're missing something that way.

It would be nice to not have to compromise.

I found out that AA not working well in 3D is one of the main causes of dizziness, eyestrain and headache. I'm going to post in some days a big thread regarding some scientific accounts on auto-stereoscopic impact on people while playing.

SF has AA with 3d on. 30fps though.

I have DOA:D and it looks better than the graphics on the PS2.

And we aren't really placing it between consoles randomly. There is a big gap in the graphics of the worst looking game on the 3DS and the best looking game on the 3DS.
Which, in turn, means almost nothing for the power of the system at this point. I don't think we'll really see what the 3DS can do until late 2012-2013

I wasn't confuting your post, I was just mildly amused at all the comparisons and rankings we got in this thread :)

It's no more confusing than Xbox 360. I think they just need to come at it from a good marketing standpoint of "this is the next Wii." The name itself is perfectly fine.

Yeah the name (while dumb) is fine but nintendo needs to do better at advertising.

If there were 4 versions of the original xbox and then the 360 came out, consumers probably would be confused.
The Wii has not had one single hardware redesign or functionally-different SKU this generation.

This is in fact contrary to the other systems, where the PS3 and Xbox 360 both had slimmed-down redesigns.

That's true that the Wii's problem isn't quite the same as the one for 3DS for this reason, but with the Wii the issue is that people might not realize it's a new system at all with the way Nintendo markets it. People that watched the conference didn't know what the hell the thing was for like, 5 minutes into the conference: New system or just a new controller for Wii ala Wii Fit?

It will be sold only with Wii U, so no worries about consumers' confusion and the like.
Except that consumers won't think that it is the next console and just another throwaway peripheral.

Right. People are just putting way too much importance on the name when how they described the new console and how they revealed it at E3 were the real source of the problem.
