Iwata: Revolution Can Play Virtual Console/Multi-Platform Games

REALLY SHITTY PHOTOSHOP... is this what Iwata means?

:lol sort of I think, butt the rev controller is smaller than that I'm pretty sure.

The freehand controller actually has ridges... it looks like its already intended to slot into something upto a certain point. Look at the far right angle in this image:

This could possibly mean the D pad would be the only part sticking out of the "shell" controller(s).

after watching the controller video

I don't know why Nintendo did not show this thing using the classic shell as well it would have made things very easy

also they used so many people for the video and NO LEAKS :D

I noticed that as well.

Actors + filming crew + CGI people....

And yet nothing leaked.

Unlike a certain MTV unveiling.

This thing is far smaller that pictures would have use believe, which is why the shell idea takes some time to get your head around. But, by all accounts of Iwata's picture, the thing is TINY. And, that is a good thing. Did any of the articles really talk about size/weight or were they so enthused with the mechanics that they forgot about it?

I haven't seen any articles mention the remote's size.

Can someone photoshop a red Win! button on the A button. That would be hilarious.

Well, with a "classic" controller, then the Revolution becomes nothing special.

In fact, it becomes 3rd rate, behind PS3 and XBox 360.

But they should have covered the bottom "a" and "b" buttons. They're too hard to reach and they just confuse people.

Its a mock up. Plus I'm sure that Nintendo will make a better controller than a Wavebird with a slot in the middle.

but thats one of the revolutions features... it plays unconventional and conventional games... or at least it will be if this is included in the box.

i was thinkin in the line like this....

thats what i ws thinking, but i wonder how thats going to work, if you have to slide it in over the buttons.

somebody should do a mockup like that.

I had considered the sideways pointer w/ shell, but:

1) It removes the pointer functionality from the controller, and...

2) The bottom of the pointer is not symmetrical when sideways.

A top loading design seems to make much more sense.

IGN Mockup. They also noted that it wasn't properly scaled.
That's what I was thinking. Makes perfect sense given the nature of the grooves on the controller's side.

I wonder what kinda' crazy shit you could do with action games on that thing. Flip the remote around your finger for a single backflip, toss 'er in the air for some serious acrobatics ... hmm.

If you consider that the point of the shell is basically to transform it into a more traditional controller, it's possible they're not to concerned about losing the pointer. And as long as you keep the design in mind when designing the shell, that would be an easy thing to incorporate.

At the very least, they should be able to save more money on the shell if they go with a horizontal layout that re-uses the Dpad and buttons from the "remote".

Theyprobably didn't show the shell because they're still trying to sort it out.

I understand that, but they mentioned combining traditional control schemes with the Revolution's new functionality. That wouldn't be possible with a horizontal insertion method, unless they release multiple shells which would be rather absurd and far more costly than adding a few buttons.
