J Allard interview on launching the Xbox 360

I can think of a few people who might have called their games the best game ever... not sure if they've ever actually gone that route though...

Wonder if Itagaki at Tecmo's ever made that claim.

Leave it to GAF to fixate over one BS quote and ignore the meat & potatoes of the interview(of course, most of you probably just read the "Halo 2 is the greatest game of all time" and went straight to ballistic, not even bothering to read the whole interview).

Far more alarming to me are the implied hardware shortages and implied lateness of "launch" software. I really wonder how many units they are going to ship in Japan?

I'm sure he's called DOA the best fighting game of all time. Wrong of course, but it's Itagaki, what do you expect?

And he didn't even have to call Ninja Gaiden the best action game of all time, lots of journos did it for him. Here, I'll do it too: Ninja Gaiden is the best action game of all time. Sorry, DMC3 and GoW.

J Allard: We're hoping for all three of the first party titles to be there on day one. We're hoping, though. We're not going to sacrifice quality to do it. I mean you saw that with Halo; everyone was disappointed with the press. We moved the Halo 2 date out to November, and people said 'oh, I expected it in April, this is a travesty, it's disastrous!' No, it's the best game that's ever been created, and we were glad that we waited and didn't rush it out. We're going to take the same approach with the first party content. If something's not ready we'll hold it back...

Oh Allard, you're such a card.

If this was an individual game I'd admire your commitment to quality, but this is a console launch. I deserve to know what games I can pick up with my 360 on day one.

Just curious, you guys: which game should Allard have said was the best game ever? One of Nintendo's franchises or one of Sony's?

Thanks.

Hey here's an idea.. how about not even letting the words come out of your mouth?

I'm surprised Allard isn't pulling the "Launch Window" bullshit more tbh.

"It doesn't matter what is available on day one, but there's lots coming out between now and February"

If all goes to plan though (and from what we know, it is IMO) then there'll be lots of consoles available at launch and afterwards, with some great games available on day one and others shortly afterwards. Microsoft done good, IMO :D

My head is going to implode, the sad part is that maybe even Bungie thinks that they raised the bar (see the dvd of the special edition)

Give me a break. You are going to rip the guy apart now for a PR line when he is clearly the face of the Xbox 360? I don't like him either, but everyone being hypercritical because he thinks that one of Microsoft's great games is the best game of all time is unwarranted and frankly a bit redundant. Believe it or not, I'm sure you could make a case for it being the best game ever, too.

Give it a rest. He did say like 900 other words in the interview that very few people have addressed.

ACTUALLY *I* didn't rip the guy apart... you asked a question I gave my opinion, end of story.... and sure you could make a case for it... you could make a case for quite a games being best game ever... but it's stupid to try.

The world-wide launch idea is genius. The 360 will have a year on the PS3 in the US and over a year on the PS3 in Europe. I look forward to Sony having a little competition. The consumers can only benefit. (Course if you ask me, MS packing all the shit they have in the 360 is proof positive that they already have).

Who cares? There's nothing wrong with delaying games that AREN'T DONE.

And, btw, your statement leads me to believe you weren't pleased with what he said either. The fact you didn't verbally rip him apart does not hide a clear dislike of what the guy said.

Displeased and ripping someone appart are quite far away on the annoyance scale.

No no, I agree. It's worrisome to me, the Tree Sitty consumer, who may have nothing that he wants to buy when he picks the console up at launch. So from that perspective it kinda sucks. I guess I'll pick up Ninja Gaiden Black if this happens.

Dude, that's crazy too. If there's nothing you want to play, don't buy the thing. I know, it's harder than it sounds (and I have my fair share of shitty 1st-gen games that I bought just to have something to play), but the 360 will be available for sale in January as well as November. There's plenty else (and better) to play between now and then.

As for me, I'm boycotting the $60 game until I'm convinced it won't go away. Which means I'll be buying all my X360 games at Fry's, and which also means I won't be getting an X360 at launch unless Fry's pre-launch ads have Kameo, PDZ, Elder Scrolls, or a few others for $50.

Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, and Project Gotham Racing 3 are all 50 dollars. PDZ has a special edition for 60 dollars. Sounds like many 3rd party games will be 60 dollars, but perhaps not all of them. 3rd party game pricing hasn't been officially announced yet.

I agree about the 60 dollar pricepoint. I may hold off from buying all 60 dollar X360 games just like I have not bought a single 50 dollar PSP game. I'll get the game, but when I can find it on sale under 50 bucks.

Well, I'll be damned. They weren't $50 last time I looked, but you're right. Thanks! Guess I'm getting an X360 at launch after all. I do the same thing with PSP games, but I refuse to pay even $40. $35 is as high as I've gone so far.
