During a call with analysts on Wednesday, Lenny Comma, chair and CEO of San Diego-based parent Jack in the Box Inc. attributed a 7.3-percent increase in systemwide same-store sales for the quick-service brand simply to its offer of “better burgers."

New products and promotions at breakfast and late night have helped, but Comma said the headline for Jack in the Box is that the chain has shifted from its dependence on innovative limited-time offers to a stronger core menu, “with LTOs as the gravy.”

The introduction in January of the Buttery Jack Burger, a quarter-pound patty drenched in melted garlic-herb butter with various toppings on a signature bun, was the chain’s most successful product launch in recent memory, and continued to perform well in the third quarter, Comma said. Last month, another version debuted — the Portobello Mushroom Buttery Jack.

Among company locations, the 5.5 percent increase in same-store sales during the quarter included a 1.6 percent increase in transactions, along with 1.9 percent attributed to menu mix and 2 percent in pricing.

Jack in the Box Inc. is based in San Diego, where McDonald’s Corp. is testing the offer of breakfast all day, at least with a limited menu. But Comma said McDonald’s’ test has had no impact on Jack in the Box units there.

“It’s probably impacting some competitors in this market, but we’ve been so traditionally 24/7 with our breakfast offering, we haven’t seen an impact,” he said.

Upgrades to the core menu will continue, along with marketing that will focus more on improvements to the menu and flavorful ingredients, rather than the traditional ads that spotlighted the humor and personality of the big-white-ball-headed character known as Jack, Comma said.

every time i see a commercial for those buttery jacks I can't decide whether they look good or absolutely disgusting. it's like I can't process them mentally.

And they are right. They've introduced new stuff for the past few years now. Not just new items, but actual new ingredients all together.

This is what McDonalds should be trying to do.

Here I'll clear up the confusion for you: They're ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING.

In fact, I'd rate Jack in the Box as the lowest of the low in terms of fast food.

Title is missing Shocking News. This seems pretty straightforward. When it comes to food, offer a superior product and people will buy more of it.

Good for them. They may have some cheap burgers but they're so damn good. I'd eat there over Mc Donalds any day of the week.

McDonalds has tried this, and expanding into better more expensive burgers, it didn't work out too well. Think people just see McDonalds as the cheap option for food, it's kinda their image, and them offering suddenly high priced burgers didn't seem to go over that well

As a regular late night customer, the buttery jacks have been a real improvement. They are quite tasty and the mushroom/onion additions make it amazing.

I miss Jack in the Box. They need to expand more to the East Coast already.

Either that or I need to move back West.

Get out of here, the regular one is great.

Their breakfast is still the best as far as fast food goes, there's a reason it's for 24 hrs.

But their burgers got worse recently

Actually, their increase in store sales is probably due to them really embracing their stoner food mentality and coming up with stuff like "half-and-half fries" and "boxes of shit covered in ranch dressing and cheese and bacon bits."

The article says it's not just the burgers.

I havent been to a Jack In the Box since the salmonella/ecoli scare in the mid 90s.

I worked there at the time. They made us watch a bunch of new training videos about it, the only thing I remember about the videos is they took place in a jack-in-the-box unlike any other I've ever seen. The restaurant in the video was 2 stories tall, had a salad bar, and the servers took your order at your table like a sit-down restaurant.

Also, I worked the fryer at that time, and I came to realize 99% of jack-in-the-box's food is deep fried, with the exception being ground beef for burgers and the chicken teriyaki bowls (which were, instead, microwaved).

I had the mushroom swiss one and let me tell you it's actually pretty good. But having not eaten fast food for a few months I felt terrible the entire day and the next morning it felt like I had a hangover.

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
That's not how you spell "Burger King".

Burger King really is trash. Over-priced, small servings of bland food. Went there for the first time in a few years and got the extra long cheeseburger. It was a pathetic size for what was advertized, as was the "medium" fry, which would be a small anywhere else. For $7, it didn't even fill me up.

The problem is that MD got popular because they were fast and cheap. Now they are not the fastest or the cheapest.

they're not bad if you really like the taste of butter

This^

GAF has a hard on for Burger King for some reason but every single time I've gotten food from them it's been garbage tier. Don't understand how anybody enjoys it.

I always say Jack in the Box is really the Jack of All Trades of fast food.

They pretty much have every fast food type covered and it is all bad.

I also find it hilarious that all these places are getting like 5%+ rises yet McDonald's is struggling. I initially thought the whole sector was doing bad but it is just them.

I've never been to a Jack in the Box in my life, and I don't plan to anytime soon.

Jack in the Box is the best fast food place hands down. Everything is good. Not good for you in any sense of the word healthy, but it tastes amazing

I like how Jack-in-the-Box isn't allowed to advertise their tacos as "beef tacos" since they are predominantly soy. So they just ran with it and just call them "tacos."

Yet they also can't call them vegetarian, because they are fried in lard.

^ And the tacos are beef with some soy product. Beef is the first ingredient, soy protein is the third after water. So it is definitely not predominately soy.

Similar quality to McDonalds and significantly cheaper - that will always help sales.

.

Whataburger is so good that I've tried day old fast food from different places reheated using a microwave or heated up using a toaster oven (McD's, Smashburger, Burger King, etc.) and the only burgers that still tasted really good were Whataburger's Monterey Jack and their A1 burger. They fucking crush every other chain.

In fact, I think I'll go grab some what-a-burger right now

I've never had Whataburger so I guess I'm not in the loop. East coast or west coast or both?

Neither, south

My favorite newer item is the chicken tater melt but I wish the stoner meal didn't come with those disgusting tacos. I feel bad throwing them away.

The meat lovers and grande sausage burritos are also really good.

I tried one. It was good, but you feel like a fat piece of shit during and after eating it.
