The actor is set to headline the upcoming Hulu series 11/22/63, from J.J. Abrams and Stephen King, the network announced Thursday.

Based on King's bestselling 2011 novel of the same name, the series tells the story of a high school English teacher named Jake Epping (Franco) who travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. However, the task quickly grows complicated, thanks to shooter Lee Harvey Oswald, Jake falling in love, and the past itself—which apparently "doesn't want to be changed."

Franco will also serve as a producer on the nine-hour event series, which Hulu ordered in September.

lol what

Weird. Liked the book, can't picture Franco as Epping, IMO. But I'll watch.

Kinda off topic, I haven't read Under The Dome and only watched the first season of the TV series so far. How do they compare to the source material in the latter seasons?

I forgot this was getting adapted.
Good thing its a series, because a film would def not have done it justice.

Due to the phrasing, I briefly thought "oh, so Seth Rogan is going to be Oswald"

I remember liking the book. Definitely one of King's beter recent works so I'm kinda interested in how this show is going to turn out. It's a good thing it's just one season. The book sort of dragged in parts so I like that they are keeping it short.

So this, but with a 1958 Shake.

They don't really compare. The book is completely different in tone and pretty much everything that happens. I'd recommend reading it but beware that it does drag a lot in places. Feels like King could of cut a couple hundred pages and it wouldn't of mattered.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Will watch. I haven't yet actually read the book, but on paper everything sounds up my alley.

That said....

How long have they been trying to make a Dark Tower film/tv show? I don't think it's ever going to happen.

I liked the book so I will watch. Hope they take out all the pish about swing dancing though. That was worse than the fucking ending for me.

Fuck. No. He's so f-ing bad. I don't know that I've ever had this bad of a reaction to casting news. Considering some of the performances by unassuming actors that we've seen in the last 5-10 years, maybe I'll regret this post eventually...but ugh.

Hell yeah. Definitely my favorite King book and Franco is one of my favorite actors. Sign me up.

But in this case, the ending is actually good. Don't know what the others are talking about.

Yeah I liked the ending to 11/22/63.

It actually got me real emotional there at the last page or two, which I was not expecting at all from a King book.

Yep. I actually teared up a bit. Don't remember that ever happening from a book before.

love the book, will try the show. But I also loved the Under the Dome novel and the show is fucking horrible. But this has James Franco in it... Then again, Under the Dome had Dean Norris.

Eh... We'll see.

Who knows how this will turn out, but Under the Dome is a travesty. They're making shit up as they go along, and it's not sticking to the source material well at all. They've bastardized a fantastic book (my favourite in fact).

I still watch it because of my interest in the story, but what a mess it is.

I'm about half-way through 11/22/63, but have been taking it slowly and reading it for quite a while.

Oh yeah sure me too. I love the book. I just find it funny that his son came to rescue his ending for the readers :p

You guys do know why the ending is good though?

Joe Hill wrote it

How much of the ending are we talking about?

All the stuff with the homeless guy and the threads and the alternate present? Or just the stuff when he comes back and meets up with his love interest again?
