OK, here's something fun, since we've been doing a few similar exercises. A mystery benefactor decides to hire you to put together a new wrestling federation, with a solid starting budget of around $15-25 million (just so you know how much you're playing with here; it's not infinite money). They want you to go out and 25 talents to start the company with. "TV" will basically be an online-streamed deal, along with PPVs.
There's a few other things to keep in mind:
- Since you're not made of infinite money, guys like Cena and Angle are probably not going to be affordable ... not like their respective companies would let them go anyways.
- WWE, TNA and ROH will move to protect their current champions at all costs. (a.k.a., they are unavailable)
- Talent signed to WWE Legends contracts are not available.
Which talent do you pick to start your wrestling company, and what direction do you take it in? I'd really like to see what people come up with, just for the heck of it.
OK, firstly I'd have the promotion focus on presenting wrestling as a sport, matches would almost always result in a win or a loss, with little run-in shenanigans or outside interference - win/loss records would play a big factor in deciding who does and who doesn't get title shots, but while the promotion would strive to present a serious, competitive attitude, it would also allow for a diverse range of styles and characters. However, instead of promos or backstage segments, there would be a sort of reality TV style diary room where wrestlers could book a couple of minutes to promote themselves, put over their matches, bury the competition, etc. There would also be title signings for every championship title shot, so as to further enhance the importance of the belts. Also, I would foster working relationships and talent exchanges with many overseas companies such as Pro Wrestling NOAH, AJPW, DDT, BJW, wXw, 1PW, FWA, OZ Academy, Ice Ribbon, SMASH, etc.
There would be 4 titles in the promotion; the Heavyweight Championship, the Internet TV Championship, the Tag Team Championship and the Women's Championship, as well as numerous World Invitational Tournaments held over the course of the year that could be cashed in for guaranteed title shots. The roster would be divided like so;
Heavyweight Division;
Sami Callihan
Colt Cabana
Chris Hero
Satoshi Kojima
Takeshi Morishima
Kevin Steen
Akira Taue
Hiroyoshi Tenzan
Dick Togo
Silas Young
Internet TV Championship Division;
El Generico

Willie Mack

Zack Sabre Jr.
Marty Scurll

The Nightmare Violence Connection - (Kevin Steen & Akira Tozawa)

Weapons of Mass Destruction - (Takeshi Morishima & Willie Mack)
Women's Championship Division;
