Of course they will. It's the Rocks hometown, WWE logic dictates he lose. Then he'll shake Cenas hand and all the people who chant "Cena Sucks" will suddenly start cheering for him. Or, at least that's how I imagine it works in Vinces mind.

This surely WAS the plan, but that was before Summer of Punk II and the extreme fan backlash against Cena since then. They've made attempt after attempt doing absolutely everything they know how to do and pulling every "legend" they can find out of the woodwork to try and right this ship and get Cena back over the way he needs to be in order for the plan with Rock to work as it was intended to 9 months ago, but it's just not working.

They've really booked themselves into a corner with this one. If Cena wins, the fans are going to be pissed and shit on it. If Cena loses, you're having a one-off movie star defeat the guy who is supposed to be the biggest star in the industry. Vince took a gamble by setting a storyline so far in advance for this Wrestlemania, and creatively it's hard to see how it's anything but a lose-lose situation for him right now (financially is another story...'Mania is surely going to do huge business and be a "success" by most financial standards).

This "turn to the dark side" storyline with Kane, by the way, is one final desperate attempt to get the fans to cheer for Cena. The idea is that Kane is going to tempt Cena to the dark side, Cena is going to come oh so close to going over the edge, but then his HUSTLE LOYALTY RESPECT is going to allow him to RISE ABOVE HATE and he'll fight back against the evil monster and vanquish the dark side, and we're all supposed to love him because of his epic moral struggle. See also: Return of the Jedi. Of course, this plan will almost assuredly backfire and make fans even angrier by having what they actually want to see so tantalizingly tangled in front of their face. See also: Darth Vader being the enduring cultural icon and not Luke Skywalker.

I take it you never saw that episode of TNA. Oh lawd, the thread when it happened...

I've only been in the thread for like a year... so I guess not.

You know, the parallels between Vince and George Lucas' handling of their respective products is actually rather incredible.
