Personally if I was trying to get into the WWE I'd take every illegal substance to make my muscles as big as possible. If you are jacked all you need to know is a clothesline and bodyslam. You can be next world champ with a sidewalk slam in your moveset.

I wonder how many people actually take Gibson up on his training sessions knowing that the skills he can teach them really aren't usable in WWE.
Maybe the guys on their way out of the company.
Stanford has always been a decent guy on commentary. Josh Matthews is another, which is why I don't like them jamming Michael Cole down our throats each episode and on Smackdown.

Oh lordy, agreed on all counts.

Stanford is awesome and way under utilized by the company. Supposedly he is going to have a huge part in the WWE network though, so that is a plus.

Matthews annoys me more than Cole sometimes because he is supposed to bring sanity to the mix but instead he calls moves with an EMPHASIS on whatever word he's saying at the time.

This.

"Get busy posting, or get busy dying"

I mean, sure, trying to turn the tide of the discussion doesn't always work, and I've seen many great discussions swept under a rug of "mah waifu" or gif overuse, but trying to start actual wrestling discussion is better than further derailing the thread with complaints, imo.

Well, it's not like there's certain top WWE superstars in need of learning some of the basic shit - I'm pretty sure Gibson could teach John Cena how to properly apply an STF or abdominal stretch.

Matthews isn't bursting with personality like JR or something, but he's competent, knows the moves (more or less) and calls the match. I like him fine as a play-by-play.

He and Booker could work just fine on their own. You don't NEED a heel commentator all the time, just use one if you've got a good one at hand.

Eh, I'll take it. Cole's shtick has been run into the ground, and with Vince plunging political shit, or burying talent, or even attempting cheap heat by making fun of somebody's deceased family member or screaming on the mic, he's terrible. They need some heel in there to keep him stabilized, like JBL. Mark Henry being in there was really great because he kept Cole in line and told him to shut up.

Also, was Matthews nose bleed several months ago getting him into any trouble? I doubt it but anything is possible with Vince, King, and Cole, who apparently got Matt Striker out of there.

I like Mathews. JR and Mathews on Raw as a team was great. King is worse than cole now. He's just useless he doesn't even get excited for the divas anymore. The most annoying thing they do now though is the SERIOUS LOW VOICE when something "Dangerous" happens.

Great Commentators WWE currently has employed JR, Joey Styles, Mathews and Stryker

The only thing Matthews really has going for him is that he doesn't get caught up in Cole's crap, Booker's crap or when the arguing becomes too much he brings it back to the match for a second or two.

I don't even know what Vince keeps Lawler around for.

He normally goes out of his way to NOT insult Lawler, because he knows that if he pisses Lawler off, Lawler will just quit and go home. He has zero attachment or interest in the job, it's no more than an easy weekly paycheck.

I wonder why exactly Vince wants him to stick around. He contributes nothing to the broadcasts. Even Cole contributes, even if his contributions are akin to taking a crap in the viewers ear.

This is the only "community" that just devolves into discussion that's barely above drooling stupidity. I've never seen another community where mods have had to come in and threaten to ban people to put a stop to things. Granted, wrestling = serious business is laughable considering the nature of the product. But there was a time when there was intelligent discussion tempered with stupid shit. That balance has shifted drastically toward the latter over the last six to eight months. It's also evidenced by how many new posters are in here as opposed to older posters that used to come in more often.
more a reflection of the product than the forum as the product devolves, as do we. For instance when the Punk thing started happening, the night of the shoot, from that point on until it was ruined there was non-stop discussion on everything o_0

lawler probably walked in on vince doing something terrible.

I'm starting up my "Mark Henry for Commentary" campaign for when he decides to retire from the ring. The dude was GOLD on Smackdown.

I agree. Add him to the list of "Wrestlers better at commentary than Cole or King";

. CM Punk
. Mark Henry
. Wade Barrett

I couldn't believe that in the space of 5 minutes Barrett put over Bryan better than Cole or King had in months and months.

I imagine 90% of employees have done that.
Not Nattie Neidhart.

Tamina getting the random WWE diva push. Some month it's Kelly, then they'll give it to Alicia Fox who is terrible, then Eve, then had it on Maryse, and then to Beth Phoenix again. It's a non stop comedy of crap booking.

I'll assume the reason wrestlers are good at putting over other guys on commentary is that they are the ones who get buried on commentary, and know better than anyone how damaging it is to one's career, gimmick and "overness".

There is absolutely no benefit to burying someone. Everyone loses.

If anyone cares, I'm changing networks for the IRC channel. I'll post new info when I decide what network.

In other words, WUBWUBWUB IT'S NOT JUGGERMAN IT'S JUDDERMAN WrassleGAF Channel coming 2012 (?).

Okay!

I'm not sure why I kept getting disconnected when I was on there the other night, it was quite annoying >.<!

There was a story once that Vince wanted the commentators to sound more like ESPN. Yet he really disliked Todd Grishams commentary. Grisham got demoted from Smackdown to Superstars and eventually NXT. Finally Grisham leaves and gets hired by ESPN.

William Regal too.

LMAO at these ticket prices. $100 for front row, $75 for 2nd and 3rd and $50 for 4th and 5th row. All to see a bunch of 40 year olds re-live the past.

Oh dear, not again. I guess Shane got fired from Walmart.

Also, am I the only person that just flat out hated everything Shane Douglas said or did? So damn overrated.

I've never even seen footage of him and have only heard about him by reading books from other wrestlers. Even still, the guy sounds like a whiny ass.

Regarding those who feel nostalgia stream posts are useless, well, you're mostly right. I agree. I've never been a fan of 'liveposting' whatever is going on - I see no value in a post that says simply "DAT HHH" or something like that.

The objective of showing a nostalgia stream for GAF, to me, is to foster discussion about that era based on what some of us are seeing. That's what I like to see most - not 10 pages of one-liners, which do happen, but shit. This is GAF - I see that everywhere and I just move on, because life's too short to get pissed off about one-line posts. It's just not a big deal, and I'd rather focus on making friends in here and talking wrasslin' instead of complaining about the 'state' of GAF's wrasslin thread. Because really...

If anyone has a solution to magically cure this thread of one-line posts or people marking out to live events, by all means, share em - I'll be happy to comply and either shut down any streams or just shut my mouth and move on if that's what people want. I like almost all of you guys, and I just want everyone in here to be happy.

I'm with you. Never was big into him anywhere. For me I never saw the fascination with him either in personality or his in ring ability. Felt average. Similar to Jeff Jarrett but he at least showed me a tiny sparkle of something at one point in his wrestling career.
Don't piss me off!

Man...post what the hell you want to, especially since you are actually talking about wrestling and on topic. You make gaf just as much as the next person. Even more than some, I would say.

Dat nostalgia stream.

Who is watching Evolve tonight?

Me, although I've just got a loading screen at the moment, guess the stream hasn't started yet. Hope this one goes out without any problems, as the last few DGUSA iPPVs I bought had all sorts of technical problems.

Pre-show notes from PWInsider;

-Joey Styles, Balls Mahoney, and New Jack are all here signing autographs before the show starts.

-There are scheduled to be several surprises throughout the evening.

-EVOLVE will easily shatter their attendance record tonight as there is a line down the block of people trying to get into the show.

*edit, Gabe says on twitter they may be starting late.

LOL, Lenny Leonard doesn't realise his mic is live;

"Test, test, 1-2 - testes, syphilis, herpes, South Philly, syphilis"

Show's about to start by the looks of things.

"Beat me if you can, survive if I let you!"

That was a pretty awesome debut, not so much for Ahtu though :lol Complete and utter squash.

Lol, Gargano's out for commentary and they haven't got a freaking second headset for him.

Nah, just Low Ki appropriating his catch-phrase :p

Cheech vs Cloudy's up now, Cheech is the heel, but no one cares about or has any sympathy for Cloudy.

Damn, Cloudy just died.
