At first glance, I was wondering what Triple H was doing there...

Nothing to do with anything...
Was just curious did you get my PM.. it kept flaking out and didn't want to spam your inbox.

I did not :(

Soo... turns out I can't order the RR from wwe.com because I'm in the UK, and I don't have Sky. Can anyone recommend a good "alternative" place to get it? I'll happily pay a little for a reliable stream, as I was fully prepared to pay the whole amount to get the official stream. First time in a long time I've actually wanted to order a PPV and I can't heh.

You could always resort to the GAFcast. Er, what level account do you have here?

Sometimes it's fun just to read the reactions in this thread instead of watching the PPV. But you could always try finding a reliable proxy in the US then trying to order the official stream. I didn't know that WWE had one -- that's pretty cool!

The 3 best things out of this week's Smackdown:

1) Daniel Bryaan
2) Santino/Yoshi Tatsu tag team Santatsu?
3)
Orton delivering the RKO to half of the Superstars roster

I remember what Kane/Cena/Ryder reminds me of!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0pcChyV6o4

edit: Also, you guys remember Alex Riley and his push? Because I don't

Funeral scene to be replaced by Cena weeping in the hospital where Zack is nursing his broken back? we might be able to work out the direction of Kane/Cena by following the superman plotline to its conclusion!

I would've forgotten Riley but I saw him on NXT last night, it was quite a shock I can assure you.

So here's the big question, they mentioned it on the LAW the other day...

Are we on the cusp of an openly gay face character for WWE? And if so (or even if not) who do you think would be the best superstar to 'come out' so to speak, and have the biggest impact and work best with that kind of character?

This is not a "who do u think is queer???" question. It's a legitimate question on who you think could work a gay character (not as a joke) in the WWE.

Ted DiBiase.

They let go the only guy that could probably pull of that kind of character seriously (Colt Cabana).

No. It's not possible. WWE's M.O. is to dial anything specific about a character to the maximum possible level, going even beyond realism.

* He's not just strong, he's the World's Strongest Man.
* He's not just black, he instructs people in Ebonics.
* He's not just short, he's a leprechaun.
* He's not just fair skinned, he's Captain Whitey (or whatever they're calling Shaemus nowadays)
* He's not just an Asian reporter, he's an Asian reporter who can't pronounce the letters "l" and "r" distinctly, and he also doesn't know words like "the" and "a" or articles like "'s"
* He's not just Mexican, he's a lying, cheating thief who rides a lawnmower
* He's not just a different religion, HE WANTS TO EXPLODE YOU WITH A BOMB
* He's not just gay, he's super flaming and aggressively gay.

Fun related fact I heard a long time ago, Too Cool's original Too Much gimmick was going to be the Billy And Chuck gimmick, but Jerry Lawler had it shot down because he didn't want his son involved in that sort of angle.

God no. This is wrestling, and Vince's brand of wrestling no less. Gays and minorities are only there for strapping, heterosexual, shaven chested American males to beat up.
Would it look something like this:

Awesome debut by

Here comes Randy Orton for the 5 second squash.

Serious answer: How is that even possible now when nobody is a real person anymore.

I would say one of their smaller stars on the show...

I could also possibly see R-Truth

But I think Derrick Bateman or Skip Sheffield

We always talk about how jacked up the crowd used to be, but I think this meaningless match from a random RAW in 1999 really sells it. Watch for when the action spills into the crowd. They go absolutely nuts. Also notice how old much of the crowd is.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyeMIcarrTc
Everything better all around.

The crowds always seemed to be standing in those shows, whereas nowadays they're sitting on their hands in boredom. Sure you get a decent crowd that pops big for the certain guy or heels, say MSG, Toronto, or Philly, but then you had great crowds night in and night out because of the outstanding talent.

Remember that Raw where Vince promised that by the end of the night someone would kiss his ass. When he came out there were a bunch of people in the ring willing to kiss his ass with one of them being Pat Paterson. Vince said something like "Pat Paterson? No surprises there". Because you know of course the gay guy would want to kiss his ass.

If they had a wrestler who actually is gay and is willing (with no pressure from management) to out himself, I would be all for it. Characters should become more dynamic and draw more from reality.

The way things are right now, everyone is a charicature and faces aren't allowed to be anything but the prototypical asshole superhero. Also, I think there are still a lot of audiences where it'd be difficult to draw as a gay face.

God tier people don't prefer Farscape over Battlestar. I have a lot of thinking to do now, this changes everything.
Honestly BSG is incredibly overrated.

When i first saw the mistake she did with stargate i was like ugh poser then she breaks out farscape and im like SAY WUT.

farscape-4-life, son.

If done right an openly gay character would be pretty good.

I'm not sure it's the same thing as a gimmick change though. If a wrestler were to play a homosexual on WWE TV, and they were not gay themselves, they would never be able to drop the gimmick and I'm not sure anybody would want to be pigeonholed in that role. Look at the way they handled Billy and Chuck. They couldn't even go all the way with that one.

If there was an openly gay wrestler, I'd love for them to run with it. Kanyon would have been great, but unfortunately it was too late for him.

The reason I singled out a face is because WWE would bury a heel doing it. If we could have a gay heel whose sexuality DOESN'T factor in to their character overwhelmingly or is used as a...effigy for homophobic fans to hate, I'd go with Cody Rhodes.

Sometimes I think WWE dropped the ball on Tough Enough bigger than they did with CM Punk. Someone should have come out of that show by now on WWE tv. Jeremiah Riggs and Luke Robinson both showed potential but they went with probably the greenest guy on the roster. It will probably be years before we see Andy Levine in a WWE ring, if at all. WWE also probably killed any chance of having a second season by not having a star come straight out of the show because I imagine USA wanted that out of the series.

Well, they always poked fun at Paterson, I know JR did anyhow.

But I feel like that comment probably dealt more with Paterson being a stooge, and less to be with being gay.
*Shrugs*

I really don't see what an "openly gay" character would bring to wrestling. Why should I care what a wrestler's sexual preference is? How does that, in any way, help advance storylines aside from the obvious "controversy" angle that in 15 years will be looked at as "fondly" as the DX vs. Harts vs. Nation racial stuff from 14 years ago. The only thing an "out of the closet" gimmick will bring is cliche mannerisms, 90's Goldust awkwardness, and joke matches.

The only gay-based angle I remember that wasn't too bad was Rico/Charlie Haas. Haas started out being sort of uncomfortable in the tag team, then after a while he accepted it and it was all fine. It was probably a lot more tasteless and awful than I remember though heh.

If he had said it to both Pat and Gerald, sure. Just Pat? Totally a bad gay joke.

The Gay character is totally going to be Cena's best buddy with Cena standing up for him(while you know making horroble homophobic gay jokes at his heel opponents at the same time).

Pretty much this. Any time WWE has something like that I'm embarrassed to watch the product around others. It's those kind of things that give non-fans the fuel they need to run you and/or your choice of entertainment down.

It's a shame too considering the promise Jeremiah showed and how the crowd loved him. As well as Luke who worked harder than Andy ever did even though he was arrogant.

The problem is that the fans have been trained by the company to hate certain things unrelentingly.

"Hey, remember me? Remember me? It's D D P!"

Crowd: HURRAH!

"I'm not a Christian anymore. I decided to go for one of those third-party religions. I'm still the same guy, though"

Crowd: BOOOOO, YOU FUCKING SUCK, TERRORIST WITCH!

"Hi, I'm Mick Foley. Remember how I nearly killed myself every week for you? Well, I'm back, because I still have a few teeth left!"

Crowd: YAAAAY, GREATEST MOMENT EVER!

"Turns out I am not attracted to women sexually. Instead, men turn me on. Who knew?"

Crowd: OMG, EW, DON'T BE IN THE SAME BUILDING AS US!

It means you won't get any shitty love angles with Divas. That's something.

I kind of liked where they were going with him and Eric Young, but everything else Jordan did was so awful. Also a DQ because he was heel for every part of his career except for the best time they used his orientation.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, we don't need a stereotypical gay character anymore than we need an stereotypical Italian character. If there is a wrestler who is gay, that should just be part of who that person plays. You can dial up a gay guy's personality without making him the "gay" character, just like when you dial up any straight person's character they don't have to turn into Mr. Ass or Val Venis.

I'd also like to see guys like Jinder Mahal playing Indian-American(Canadian)s, not just evil foreigners for this same reason.

To use a more direct example, if Randy Orton can have a wife without becoming "working father" wrestler than so too can any wrestler have a boyfriend without becoming "cock-crazy manslut" wrestler.

The worst is during the opening tryout matches where nobody knows who is wrestling, yet they boo or cheer based only on how they come to the ring.
